I have not been a major fan of PvP in STo over the three plus years of playing. The big problem is the faction based teaming and the random team structuring makes it less appealing.

I joined World of Tanks last year, just because I like the idea of battling in tanks, and found their method to be more balanced and less random. The game does not care what country's tank you have and it just creates two balanced teams (when going PuG) and even allows for structured teams to compete against each other. I am no expert in WoT, but I am more encouraged to play in that style than in STO's "pot luck" method.

Of course, the premise for PvP is an ongoing war, but let's face it, the game has not really focused on any conflict between FEDs and KDFs. Turn it into a War Game (something that is intended to prepare Captains for the engagement against Borg, Undine, and other rogue elements). Especially the need to create combined forces (that is a real military term) for FED and KDF forces. The PvP will fit this storyline when FED and KDF (and now Roms) can be assembled onto the same team. Additonally, structured teams can combine with structured teams from another faction to go into a big 10vs10 battles (last man standing, capture the flag, and zone control matches).

Play WoT and see what I mean.

FvF...states that it is wargames. Some folks think the Feds are embroiled in civil war, but it clearly states they are wargames. FvK and KvK...don't.

But as stated, Cryptic isn't supporting a war. If anything, the Feds/KDF are at an unstable peace - the evidence for this is everywhere you look. It's a temporal thing - sure, may start out at war...but long before you're at 50, it's no longer the case.

Given that the PvP is casual, no meaning to the game - only real meaning is the fun folks have, it is pretty much wargames.

There's been talk about it being more than that...even PvP reputation, but I can't see how Cryptic could do that outside of a wargames sort of thing given the peace that exists.

It could be a curious change...and given the introduction of the Romulans...a possible change, eh? Rather than folks joining the queue as Fed/KDF...just joining a queue.

If folks wanted to maintain a Fed/KDF identity - they could easily form themed teams.

That's actually one of the things that made me leave WoT. The historical setting gets completely destroyed when you're in a rag tag team made up of "paper tigers" from 7 different nations spanning 50 years of developement. They could have just skipped the WW2 background, added "generic tank model 1-50" and you wouldn't see any difference.
