I fully agree with this. If you do not have a full MK XII purple set of everything you should not be allowed into STFS of any kind. They are called ELITE STF's after all.... for the ELITE.

Cool, so what do you do if someone comes into your ESTF with purple MK XII rainbow beams? Or purple MK XII consoles for skills that they don't even have on their layout? Because I've seen that happen and they are worse than having someone with MK X-XI greens that has a a good setup and knows the encounter. All the purpz in the world won't help you be a better captain.

Gear only matters to a certain extent in this game. Knowing the encounter and having the skill to pull off a win > 1337 purpz.

Gear score is pointless if you are incompetent, or unlucky enough to become a torpedo magnet. And gear score is just money or time, nothing that shows your actual ability.

Most of my characters have all top end gear, but I don't really need it for elite STFs.
My last alt I only bought mostly blue and green gear from the exchange a few purples, but I limited myself only to items that were listed for around the face value or less, most stuff I got for near vendor price. I still had no problems pulling my weight on elite, still easy to solo cubes in KASE or guard Kang from all 3 sides, and to tank tac cubes for awhile. I hardly died when using that gear either. It seems like the difference between all purple and blue/green gear is not all that big, build and experience matter much more.

more than one weapon type 20 pts X mark X number of types

Having full "epic" gear (which doesn't exist in STO btw....have you even played this game?) doesn't say anything about the player,or the means they acquired the gear.I have a full MK XII M.A.C.O set on one of my characters, and got it well before the reputation system existed. How did I get it?Sheer random luck.Does it make me a better player, that I was lucky enough to get it from random drops?

If you suck, you suck....it doesn't matter if you are using white MK X or purple MK XII gear.
I do wish Cryptic would take the time and make finishing the STF's on normal a prerequisite for being able to do STF's on elite.

    No and no.

This is not WoW, if you want a gear score go play WoW.

Besides its completely useless, you que up and PvE with whoever is there.

And how do you score set pieces? They may not be of the same tier, and just because your purple ship shield has 1000 more points to it does not mean its better, I would give up a 1000 points on a shield for a set bonus any day.

Gear scores would be impossible and completely useless, they are an archaic thing of the past.

The problem is not gear. It's knowhow. I could run an elite STF in mk X whites across the board on say.... a Mirror Escort... and I'd do just fine. But that's because I know how to play really well and how not to TRIBBLE things up. Has zero to do with gear and most to do with knowhow and you can't rate knowhow with an addon sadly.

Gearscore is one of the worst features ever implemented in an mmo I think.
Yes, it can help you save a couple of minutes/day grinding endgame stuff.

It will also make it alot harder for you to make alts and get them geared towards endgame.

Also it's not a newbfriendly system, (new players don't bother come here..).

If I wanted gearscore I'd still be playing that other game (and probably be some kind of bear now).

No...absolutely not. I have all MkXii purples and I loathe this elitist nonsense. It's ythe height of arrogance to limit someone else's enjoyment of the game because they're pixels aren't purple enough for you. If that's what you want go back to WOW.

I have to agree with this

I have several toons, like many players. Every time they hit level 50 they usually only have white and green, maybe a few blues. I easily run them through STFs in that gear because STFs are ridiculously easy. I can't remember the last time I did an STF in a team that knew what they had to do, and failed the optional let alone the mission. I don't even care about the optional anyway, its only 15 marks. The people who care are the elitists who, judging by this thread, its pretty obvious they exist. I have no problem in needing an accolade to play elites but whoever suggested gear score should be beamed into an exploding tactical cube with no shields.

Hey guys, hope I'm not late to the OP bashing.

ABSOLUTELY NO to gear score barrier. You can easily do Elite STFs with Mk X whites.

Maybe if you see someone sucking you should teach them instead of whining and complaining. Leaders try to bring out the best in people, idiots sit back and moan. Learn to be a leader.

What about an Eng who is using the Support Technician Kit so they have Quick Fix to remodulate?

I think the biggest flaw to this is the ground sets.
When I have them, I'm not going to waste my device slots with a remodulator that has no point.

I could agree with maybe a very simple accolade to unlock elites, no gear score. It should only require completion of the 3 original STFs once each in space on normal to unlock elite space, and same for ground. That way it won't be too much of a hassle for gearing alts, but still makes new players at least try each one on normal first.

As a compromise, I wouldn't mind seeing an "examine target" feature to let you see another player's actual gear via mouse-tool tips, even if no score is associated with each item.

You can do that with the Gateway, unless the other player disables that feature (if you want to keep your build secret).

Space missions are different then ground missions. In Elite ground missions if your gear is crappy you can get killed in 1 or 2 hits making missions become so much harder on the entire team. Imagine multiple people with such crappy gear that they all get 1 shot so much. I have been in games with people who get 1 shot killed many times in games and I hate it as did the rest of the team.

So many times I have seen someone enter a Elite ground mission with them saying I have never done this mission before. I would really like to see something like this.

IMO in order to unlock a Elite mission you need to complete its normal version at least 1 time on your character.

Once unlocked you can only enter a elite mission if your character is in good health (no injuries). So many times I see people entering ground missions with multiple injuries. I have even seen someone with over 40 total injuries in Elite ground missions and that person was totally worthless being 1 shot killed all the time and if he ever did any damage to a enemy it was so low. That person I am talking about I have seen do it multiple times and it drives me crazy. Other people who was in the team and saw that person with so many injuries in a elite mission well some of them said some things I cant say here and some others have said I am leaving because I wont play a part in carrying this jerk who wont heal those injuries.

Their are already some rules for entering missions adding a couple more I would not be opposed to (so long as they are not totally unreasonable) and would welcome as I know their are other people who have agreed with me. Such changes should only apply to public matches. Allow people to goof off doing whatever they want in private matches.

What do you consider epic gear? Full Borg Rep gear? If yes then I guess the amount of Marks gained from normal STF's should be upped to what eSTF's gain now and the eSTF's should be made even higher still, but then again... Why play eSTF's when you already have all the gear you need?

ELITE STF is the best dill income in game ,and epic gear is everything purple quality mkXI or better , idk what is so hard few hours play time can bring u 2-3m ec and for that u can easy buy mkXI gear consoles can be blue but ppl just making alts lvl up them in mirror universe event and then they buy them white mk10 gear and farm elite stf for dill so if we had gear score that ppl could not queue at least and slow down or ruin stfs to other players

I disagree with the OP on this, if Cryptic was to do anything it should be for people who don't communicate. Sometimes I think it should automatically make people's chat window pop-up and flash whenever there is a reply/message in team chat during a STF so they can actually see people asking to do the 10% method or trying to organise a team before and during the optional timer.

Lack of communication with people who don't know what they are doing can mean the difference between a success and a failure and the STF cooldown timer should only work after a successful STF, allowing a person to try again if it fails rather than wait for the hour cooldown. An argument could be made that they could go do another and come back later, but it would be nice if the timer cooldown was only started on a successful STF completion.
    What's German for Remodulate?

    ;)

This brings up another point, STO introduced these new languages but never stopped to consider that perhaps they should have introduced an automatic translator so teams like in STF's PUG's could actually communicate. So many times I see someone in team trying to organise only to get a reply in German, which a lot of players don't understand and the poor German can't understand the rest of his team.

Either that or make it so only people that have the same language selected can enter a PUG together.
