Legacy Pack, Starter pack, or...?

jestersagejestersage Member Posts: 8 Arc User
I am holding off my purchase for the LoR, but I am still debating which course of action should I take:

1) Get the Legacy Pack? It is cheaper than buying each ship, and they do have cool consoles, but it's $129, and restricted only to Romulans.
2) Starter pack - just the basic stuff, plus it's only $20. Wait for a Romulan carrier
3) Same as option 2, but use the money saved to buy Heavy Escort Carrier/Vesta for Fed AND a Kar'Fi for my Klink.

As you notice, I am more or less a pet master type of player.

Thoughts?

If I were you (and had money) then I think that Legacy Pack, look like the best choice from these 3 options, but only if you are interested in play as Romulan (not real) faction.

If you want strictly Pet type ships, then the only pet type Romulan ship is the Ha'apex Advanced Warbird and maybe its variation ships and they are free or bought with dilithium, but it is more like the Prometheus rather than actual pets. There is a rumor that the Scimitar will be a C-Store ship like the Vesta and have hangars.

So I say either wait for a Romulan Carrier or go with option 3 if you want to play a Carrier ship. If the other ships look attractive, then go with either option 1 or 2. Although, most of the items in the legacy and starter packs are available through the C-Store when LoR goes live.

The pack have many low level ship, and few high level ship. Also, they don't have any pet ship, as the Romulan have no carrier.

If you want a lot of ship variety as you lvlup your rom, take a pack, if you want specifics ship, buy them and not a pack.

Forget to say that I will propably buy started pack by myself, as I no have money for Legacy one, and about ships I can buy what I will need in C-Store, I more interested in title etc, i think but bad thing be that Title: Rihannsu is only in Legacy Pack.

If you're wanting pet ships I'd probably wait for the upcoming C-Store Scimitar and Ha'apex. The Scimitar will be a carrier-type of some sort and the Ha'apex will be an MVAE type.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I thought the scimitar will be the next lock box ship. Or do you guys think it will be some iconian ship or even something completely different?

When it comes to the starter pack i'm also not so sure what to do. I feel that in some month there will be additional romulan ships as has been said like a carrier or others and that if I buy the legacy pack now i will still have to pay more to get those.

In the end noone will use more then say 2 or 3 special consoles on ship because its just not effective with all those other nice consoles out there. So well i still am not sure whether its worth the money or not considering all those useless lowlevel ships.

And mind you 130 Eur is about 15k zen so 6 normal c-store ships or 150 lock box keys..

Both DStahl and Geko have said their belief was that the Scimitar would be a C-Store ships: probably a 3-pack. Cryptic's policy is not to give Faction-specific ships in Lockboxes.

Cryptic is more about putting ships in lockboxes that a faction should never have. Mirror Universe ships and ships from the 29th Century don't belong in 25th Century Starfleet so they are in a lockbox. They could introduce a Starfleet ship from another reality and put it in a lockbox ship. I believe that if lockboxes were available when the Galaxy X was introduced, then it would be put in a lockbox with the corresponding Klingon ship.

I guess it's simple: Not bother with Legacy pack, stick with starter pack and see how it goes.

If your desire is to fly a romulan carrier, I certainly wouldn't spend 125 bucks on the legacy pack which has no carrier in it.

I'd wait for the carrier to come out. There's a really good chance the Scimitar will be coming soon and have at least one hangar bay.

Romulan default pets for their carriers should be scorpions. So yeah, I recommend waiting. If as you say, the pets and carrier thing is what you like the most. Be patient, wait for a Romulan carrier and then go bananas. Paint the sky with your scorpions and make your enemies suffer. Or something.

I bought the starter pack even though I didn't want or need it. I just wanted to support cryptics expansion of the game.

If you don't have the Lifetime, get the Legacy pack.
Should I start posting again after all this time?

Yeah, if you prefer to play carriers, I'd recommend the Starter Pack and seeing what they make for Romulans. The Legacy Pack works better for folks (like me) who intend on playing multiple Romulans in different careers, so all the extra ships will be used. :)

How about none of the above? :D Free ships are good enough for leveling. If I decide to do the end game treadmill with Romulan than maybe I will get a fleet ship.

Free ships are fine for leveling any Faction, but the Consoles - especially the Rom Console Sets - can come in handy on those T5 ships later. :)

But only if I get the "discount" for the fleet ship modules ... which means Tier 5 refits. I hate P2W consoles ($10+ dollars per console ... really?). So I am loath to support them.

Now give me a D'Deridex with 3 or 4 tac consoles and you can have my money Cryptic! You listening. Stop messing with the most iconic ship!

I bought the starter pack. I usually wouldn't have spent the money, but for $20 bucks I figured a T5 ship with a console which probably would have been 2000 zen on release plus a lib borg BO and T1 ship with a console seemed a good enough deal. After playing the D'Dederiex on Tribble, I'm glad I didn't sink money in for that Legacy Pack because it turns like a Carnival cruise ship with no engine power. I will wait to see what they offer in the z-store and spend the dil accordingly to get zen for anything interesting. Plus as an LTS, I will get whatever 1000 day ship they choose for the create for the Romulans.

I am free player myself and just started three days ago. I am liking the game, wish it was more complex like Eve. Anyway i noticed i need a federation character at level 24 to unlock the Klingon Play (not Federation Klingon) and wondering what i need to get the Romulan Play?

When the game first came out, i wasnt happy with it that has only two factions to play with. I didnt like the Federations and the Klingon kinda squashy to me. Romulan happen to be my favorite along with second choice would be the Borgs.

I also noticed if i dont pay gold membership, i would need to buy second character slot to be able to play another character.

Also noticed that start kit for 19.99 only have low line ships and not sure how much it would cost to by D'deridex Warbird, that happen to be my favorite ship. Its crazy to spend 129.99 for the Legacy Pack, even if i had the money i still wouldnt buy that offer.

Can someone give me some details, i looked and couldnt find much. I am not going to spend alot of money that i am not certain, already wasted money on games that taken advanage of players or unhappy with it.

i can only advice you to subscribe atleast for 1 month. try to level all characters you want in that time...respecc tokens, larger inventory, 500 zen stipend +++ see the matrix for more details (most of those benefits stay after the subscription runs out, including the third character)
use the stipend to raise the EC cap to 1 billion (10 millions is too low)
    Go pro or go home

I bought the starter pack as I would rather pick and choose what ships I will actually fly, rather than waste money on ships that I wont.

With the new expansion coming in a couple of weeks both Klingon and Romulan play will be unlocked for everyone at level 1. So you can just log in, and create whatever you like.

Also, you will be given a free character slot to play with, so you don't need to worry about that :D

Klingons needed to be unlocked because they had no content prior to level 24 - so playing a Fed to level 24 and then switching to KDF was kind of like you played a whole 50-level game. With the Expansion everyone now starts at level 1. No one needs to be unlocked. You simply decide what Faction you want to play and start playing.

Everyone gets a T4 D'deridex for free when they hit Commander level. You can buy a C-Store version to have a T5 D'deridex - and there's a Fleet Store version as well for VA.

Ah that make sense, someone told me (pm) that once you sub, everyone can play any factions at level one. And good to hear that warbird would be free.

I got tired of playing my federation character, believe she is lvl 8 in three days. So i will wait til 21st or after then see what happen.

You could always have another character other than a fed. Sub or free players.
It was just that cryptic did everything in its power to not have people play kdf.
Website, cstore, ui, gateway, forums were all geared toward fed.
Then they would say hilarious things like "we'll nobody plays kdf". And while everyone would say "um that is because of what you haven't done to it" cryptic would hide all the kdf forum posts in the kdf forum and leave all the fed posts in general.
For years it was probably the most foot shooting strategy you will ever see in any game.
But it looks like cryptic will be fixing this next week.
That kdf tutorial is better than the romulan one.

I just hope that it isn't too late and, like other games, the population may redistribute a little.

They should have though of that before making STO, not every players want to play Feds. So some rather play Klingons or others instead. When STO first came out i was disappointed with it.

They did think about it. The problem was that Cryptic purchased Perpetual's Star Trek license when Perpetual went belly-up. Cryptic had to launch the game by the date on Perpetual's license or the license would expire. To meet that date Cryptic was unable to include KDF content - and even the Fed side was quite lite.

After that Atari became a cacophony of problems for Cryptic, which included laying off over half of STO's development team. It wasn't until PWE purchased Cryptic from Atari that things began to change. Since PWE's purchase STO's dev team has gone from 20 to 50 - and the team is now putting out a full KDF mission tree and adding a Romulan micro-faction.
