Reputation grind fix proposal

borgqubborgqub Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Hello all,
I have been beta testing the LOR and I have an idea. First, I am going to say I am so VERY impressed with the LOR update. This is how this game should have launched it is clean and beautiful. The story is so compelling it makes me think about what will happen next after I log out, kind of like what it was like waiting for next week?s show after seeing the clip at the end of the Star Trek episode you just watched.

That said, I was saddened with how they have handled the rep grind. I have an idea of how they could still make it a grind but less of one for alts. I mean face it, most everyone here is going to roll a Rommie (or an alt) and no one wants to grind for the rep again. Because waiting 20 hours for it to cool down was enough the first time through?

So, I think they should make the completion of the grind accolade. Once you have the accolade you then unlock the no cool down mode for your alts. This will still make it cost the same and allow it to be a bit easier for alts. While we are at it maybe make the marks account wide. This will help people that bought the species unlock the ability to reroll and not loose progress or easier to farm the insane amount of marks you need to unlock most of the gear upgrades. Better yet, make it a c-Store unlock ( *wink, that way they could fund this change as well).

I love this game and I think this would help alleviate some of the rep grind stress that I know we will be seeing in the forums once LOR goes live!

So how about it Cryptic? Could you make this happen?;)

Thank you all for taking the time to read this!! See you in game!!:)

Probably main reason I don't play this game anymore. It's a nightmare to make / have alts, and there's no meaningful endgame that would encourage you to focus on one character.

    I like the suggestion.

Yes, the more characters you have, the more torture it is to play them and it becomes work.

Imagine those players who have one for each faction and class when LoR goes live (who been dedicated STO players since launch). 3 Federation and 3 KDF characters that need Tholian reputation and then 3 new Romulan characters having to do the Tholian reputation, but also grinding again Romulan and Omega reputations.

So instead of having fun, it just sucks the life out of you. :(

That's why some of this stuff being account-wide would really add fun back to the game since you don't have to grind on 6, 8, 10 characters. You could just hop in and play an STF without feeling like a liability.

Yeah something like this is badly needed. Right now I've decided to stick with my Fed and KDF as my mains doing the rep systems on those two. My Roms are just going to be made for the story line, I won't be doing rep grind on them. I'm also not sure if I even want to do the new Nukara rep. It's just getting old.

agreed; the grind is...okay for the first character, but having to do it on any further ones...yeah, some kind of system for making it less of a pain for alts is definitely needed

at this point, i would even accept that potential something having to be bought out of the store
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

Tholians are all going to be tetryon based? Romulan is plasma based? I think you should just do one or the other, not both. Save yourself a lot of hassle.

too bad cryptic tends to buff the borg in STFs according to someone having all the rep buffs, i wouldn't be one bit surprised if they buffed the borg again due to tholian rep.

Yes, Tholian Reputation gives Tetryon Weapons as well as some other interesting things. I won't be surprised in the next expansion we will get a Dominion or Breen reputation with Polarons.

And yes, it would've been interesting to have factions to choose than having all of them available. So given each reputation has their own pro and con.

in my mind having alts made the game better and more fun for me..

i currently have 7 chars on one account and 4 on the other.

having more then one char makes something to do.
if i had only one char, id be completely bored by now..

just dont look at it as a race to the top..

i have some chars that are still t1 rep.. it will take years to get to t5.

I agree that something needs to be done to give account level benefits for the reputation systems.

I actually love the OPs idea far more than I thought I would.

    That's superb!

I think the only problem would be, now that projects give you dil - they would probably have to remove it or you'd get so much in so little time. That being said I'd be much happier with no dil and immediate rep projects on my alts, than dil and 20h projects!

This is why i will not roll a Romulan... maby after i have finished the new reputations on my 12 characters, but that is not a big maby..

The capitalist in me says if they sold an "unlock this rep system" token in the C-Store for 250-500z (though more realistically it'd probably be closer to 50z0-750z), it'd sell damn near as fast as lockbox keys. At least for a little bit.
If you feel Keel'el's effect is well designed, please, for your own safety, be very careful around shallow pools of water.

If that's what it takes to get this implemented, so be it.

I don't understand the logic of people who say this. Do you need rep gear on all 12 toons? Do you actually need the rep passives on all 12 toons?

I have 10 toons, the rep is finished on precisely one of them (my main) My main KDF is T3 omega, and my brand new toon is T1 omega. I'm happy, I don't need to complete the rep on all my toons to be competative.

My brand new toon, for example, had no rep/fleet anything. Fresh toon, I gave it 15m, bought a fleet ship module, bought a fleet AE with it. Spent the remainder (9m) kitting it out, took it into an STF and did 9k. That's pretty damn respectable as-is, the only reason you actually need to do the rep on all 11 of your toons is if you're a completionist.

Before we go crazy changing everything with account-wide unlocks and such...

Perhaps Cryptic should try changing a key source of frustration with the Rep System (and, to me, the DOff System as well), it's something topset mentioned a few posts back - 20 Hour Processing Times.

For the 2000 Rep projects, maybe (100 rep points an hour), but if you've got the choice between 2000 point rep projects and 800 point rep projects and they'll both take twenty hours to process in addition to however long getting the actual items needed. Use the same formula I just mentioned 100rep/1hour and cut the 800 point projects down to eight hours.

It goes by faster, it'll probably feel less like a grind.

^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...
