OK I despise over the shoulder cams in third person pov and mine are constantly reseting to ON. HOW the **** do you permanently have that set to off? I do know how to change it in the settings and everything else stays the same as I set it except the over the shoulder cam which should be called walking beside cam considering how far off it is.

I thought I was going crazy when I could not find a way to remove that view. Why take that out?
I thought I was going crazy when I could not find a way to remove that view. Why take that out?
Why have an option to disable it when people can just make sure they don't zoom in that far?
Personally I like it, especially when in shooter mode, but I agree the player/cam relation is offset too much. If they's fix it so the player wasn't so offset and have the ability to lock that cam angle for shooter mode it'd be a lot better. Right now switching from shooter to rpg mode sucks because the cam resets everytime you switch back to shooter.
Well when I was in they completely removed the option altogether rather than fix it or leave it as it was. making ground just unplayable for me.
As for why i despise it is for 1 the offset is not over the shoulder but walking beside, so zoomed in all the way im constantly getting stuck on objects because i am aiming from my cameras perspective and not the avatar. then if I have a wall or crate right on the right side of my character then it blocks my camera view and I flat out cannot see anything.
Then I play allot of first person shooters and when in aim mode i want to do it from that POV because it is better to aim. You can only use first person with over the shoulder shut off.
So now I no longer can shut it off to make visibility better, not run into things and get stuck and no more first person they just ****ed the game up for me. Seriously who decided that because they couldnt get it persistint to just remove it? Are they stupid? Did they get dropped on the head as a baby?
Since the servers are down ill try to edit and show a description of how over the shoulder makes it harder to play...
C = Camera
W = Wall
E = Enemy
O = Back of characters head
F = First person or over the shoulder shut off camera and character position.
Scenario 1, over the shoulder ON
E O W C
Scenario 2 Over the shoulder OFF
E F E W
Scenario 1 there is an enemy hidden behind a wall, scenario 2 you can clearly see both enemies.

I was about to go ahead and snag the lifetime subscription while it was on sale, until I saw in the release notes that the option to disable the over-the-shoulder cam has been removed (depreciated)...
Just what was depreciated about being able to set your view directly behind your avatar?
One of the other things that annoyed me about that view (and there are a LOT of things I hate about it) was that it prevented me from scrolling in to a FPS view while I was walking around the starbases or my ship interior like I prefer doing.
So, now that I can't disable it, is my only choice to go into battle view with my weapon unholstered, stalking around the starbase as if I'm looking to kill somebody?
This view alone is enough to get me to stop playing altogether, and I just joined less than a month ago!
This is a stupid move, and there is nothing "depreciated" about being able to customize your viewpoint to your personal preferences, and I can't imagine a single scenario where moving your viewpoint to the side, HAD to be done because it was breaking something.
Forcing behaviors like this one onto people, is a sure fire way to drive away part of your customer base, as this is an extremely visible item to the user, with a very high annoyance factor for those it affects.
I was happy to read the bulk of the changelog, but this one item is such a huge negative, that the rest of the new stuff, doesn't make up for having to put up with it.
I must agree, this is one of their dumbest ideas yet, and that's saying a lot. I'm one of those people who loves looking at things, checking them out. Ships, walls, characters, up close and personal and take screenshots that aren't obstructed by my character. Now I can't do that, OR get closer looks at characters, models, structures. It's disappointing to say the least.
I did a bug ticket last night while ingame saying the option is gone. If they dont read this thread then they do get a ticket as well.
Playing the new content last night and fed side is allot of ground fighting I couldnt target who I wanted to as easily, missed a ton of shots, kept running into the furniture in a bar fight. Yes I got stuck against a chair and tabkle and had to stop looking at what i was trying to kill and see which direction to move to get unstuck because my character was off to the left in peripheral vision land.
Tried turning on the auto target and that was far worse, instead of 1-2 missed shots it kept switching to different targets so instead of taking out 1 at a time while my boffs distracted and maybe killed another it was like trying to kill 1 huge boss with 6 weapons. massivly frustrating to have to kill the whole group at 1 time rather than 1 at a time making it easier everytime one drops. So i shut auto target off and did not enjoy the ground fights. Aftre I finish the last new mission for feds I wont ever do them again unless the option to go to first person or at the least no over the shoulder view is returned.
Now over the shoulder view does have a purpose, it is for when you have to point at something to select it for interaction. Over the shoulder so you can see what it is you are pointing at so you can pick up that bottle rather than the plate. That is irrelevant in this game. you get a pop up of everything within range that can be interacted with.

Because that's a rediculously stupid reason to force everyone to use it. Seriously.
It is trivial to make that setting just as persistent as all of the other settings that do stay put after we set it.

I used to use the option in space so I could have a bridge view from inside my ship, not I can't zoom in all the way like I like to.
I'm going to miss the "STAR TREK" feeling I got from playing in bridge view. now it's going to feel ike a shoot-em-up space game
