Now I don't know if this has been posted in other pages before, but something is majorly wrong with how 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place rewards on completion are being rewarded on the Crystalline event.
Now before last Thursdays patch I had 2 tactical toons placing 1st every time I did it, and my Sci and Eng toons placed 2nd or 3rd.
After Thursday's patch, both my tacts haven't placed 1st at all and my damn Engineer has.
And today I got 2nd on my tact and another Eng in my team got first. What the hell is the deal with the change?
There's no way, my engineer is better then my tactical toon and he shouldn't be first at all? So wtf did they change, that screws tactical over in CE?
Mind you, I have 2 lvl 50 Tacts that placed 1st 3 days in a row then a patch and they haven't placed first at all, and my engineer toon has twice now, when he didn't before.
Wait...a bug you feel, is that a non tac-toon is getting first place?
Well, what are you doing in your engineer? CE runs it differently. While it is mostly pew pew in there, simply sitting in one spot and shooting the CE until it dies is no guarantee for first place.
It does reward to helping to kill shards, to kill the tholians, and keep the pressure up on the CE, but also to heal and support others.
My Fed engineer, my Klingon and Fed tacs, and Fed science all got first place on the very first day. And my Fed Engineer, my main toon also got first place yesterday and today. My other toons sans my KDF engineer (who's barely played anyways and I don't really care that much about accolades on him) have all gotten 1st at least once.
Each of them has a certain role I put them in.
Fed engineer: AoE-hitting and aggro-pulling tank. He ticks off the Tholians, kills them fairly quickly, and then resumes sitting still to kill the Ce.
Fed Tac: Runs a torp heavy Kumari (torp heavy for the CE that is), does lots and lots of torp spreads and HYs, to really lay down the hurt on the CE. Not as good against the Tholians, but I fire lots of plasmas, so they get to burn regardless.
Fed Sci: Flies a Recluse with the Mesh Weaver pets, which keep Beta 2 on anything I point at, weaking their resistances and making it easier for everyone to kill stuff.
KDF tac: He's in the Tac Bortas, and keeps a good stream of Beta going as well, along with the sheer heaps of damage I can pile on something, particularly the Tholians since it's a very energy-heavy build, and doesn't do as much to the CE. However between Beta and FOMM, it can still lay a hurting.
KDF Eng: Same as the Fed Eng, just on a different ship basically.
KDF sci: Originally on her B'rel which dropped lots of mines and torps, but it has a very PvP-specific set-up, which wasn't doing me a whole lot of good with the CE. So I switched to the Vo'quv with the B'rel pets, which launch lots of HY Quantum torps, along with their other abilities and has done quite well all in all on both the CE and Tholians.
So what I am getting at is, look around, toss a heal or a Tac Team, see what your teammates need, support them, and regardless of toon, you will much more easily get first place.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Yeah. If a ship like this can get the 1st place almost anything can.
I like it, for one single event in game its not about "he whose DPS is highest", if you want that there are PVP, STFS and pretty much every other event in game.
I'd say the bigger bug is the fact that I just discovered that if a Fed player activates Photonic Fleet to bring in holographic starships for support, those starships will attack any KDF players in the group, as well as the Entity and Tholians! XD

Yeah sorry brah, I've first place'd it twice since the patch in my tac. Chances are somebody in your matches lately is simply beating you to it.

I like the change. So tired of tacs in end game gear getting 1st and 2nd. I actually managed 2nd place twice on my eng / cruiser with mk x gear from Ker'rat / fleet action drops. Nice job cryptic seriously.

Fire at will nuking shards and the massive self healing that an engi in a cruiser can put out means that, if they are getting consistently hit, they will win CE.
My fed engineer flies a caitian atrox carrier (essentially a science vessel), and I've placed 1st twice now and 2nd or 3rd in every other match I've run.
You arent going to get first just because you're tactical. CE is one of those encounters where a ship with commander science slots is going to have an advantage over a pure tactical ship, mainly because of gravity well. It does kinetic damage, and is a large AoE - the crystalline entity and it's shards are vulnerable to kinetic damage and resistant to energy damage, which makes gravity well very powerful against it and which is why a lot of people are spamming torpedoes and mines in the event now.
Tractor beams, with high aux power and proper consoles/skill point focus, will also do extreme damage to the CE.
I'm almost always the 1st with my tac escort. I use scatter volley 1-2 + AP:B. I keep it on the CE, and the AOE destroy a lot of shards in the process. Sometimes, I toss a TSS to someone else.
I think the whole ladder for any event like that is stupid. There is no number 1 in teamwork. The tac doing heavy DPS is as important as the sci using his CC to keep the tholian busy, and healing the tac.
However, if we had to give the MVP to someone, using a vote system like in SWTOR in PVP, it would be better. In the end, the ladder pop, show damage done/sustained/healing done, and you have to vote for someone. That would make a lot more sense.
i also find my engineer, that has a kamarang, places 2nd or 3rd every time.
and my science officer in a vo'quv with bop refits often places 1st..
yet both my tactical officers, one in a karfi with adv farjai and one in a dreadnought with adv toduj, has only ever came in 3rd once each..
[12:35] Vessel Two of Two Unimatrix 01 deals 225232 (271723) Plasma Damage to you with Plasma Lance.

Tac here, everything is fine. If you cant get first its you not the game.
I think in the last one I did, I beamed down to the planet for a coffee, beamed back up and high five'd the Entity, and still got first while rolling my face on the keyboard.

Maybe what people failed to realize that in my case, I was placing first before they changed something and haven't been able to since..
Now ya I guess maybe some others in there are doing slightly better then me, but I doubt that's the whole case all the time because it seems to me like they flipped the board around where my tacts kicked TRIBBLE and now suck and my Eng isn't nearly as geared and sucked before, and now places first...
And another engineer in my fleet that had joined the team I was with got first on his Eng and I placed 2nd with my tact, and he even says in fleet chat "that's the first time I ever got 1st place!"
And it pissed me off because I know he isn't as good. LoL
I honestly don't like it though because only because of a patch I can't get first
Some groups are awful, some groups are great. There's a LOT of people who can consistently place first, but what are the odds you can keep playing and never run into another good player? I can still consistently get first with my tac/escort, but it's not guaranteed, running several times I eventually get outmatched or run up against a torpedo boat who can crank huge damage on the entity through absorbs while I'm playing hide the pickle with a couple Tholians who won't line up for my AOE.
On the other hand, eventually you're going to get a team so bad that just refraining from eating your computer will probably get you into the top three - I scored first last week, before any changes, in my terrible tac/cruiser in the old 2nd anniversary Bortas with a bunch of mk X common rainbow beams and a mess of mk II through VIII consoles, despite going to get a sandwitch during the second shockwave. Because you and your character are only 10% of what determines your placement on the scoreboard. The other 90% is out of your control, and if any one of those nine people is as good or as geared as you, there goes your first.
And frankly, blaming a patch that didn't change it and saying you don't like the encounter anymore is supremely childish.

It is highly depending on the performance of your team in relation to yourself. If you have a ****ty team you are more likely to win.
Yeah. If a ship like this can get the 1st place almost anything can.

My Science captain flying a support/crowd control science ship has won first place several times, or places second or third.
My Engineer in a tanking/healing cruiser has won first place EVERY. TIME.
Fire at will nuking shards and the massive self healing that an engi in a cruiser can put out means that, if they are getting consistently hit, they will win CE.
Which is awesome.

For all those that don't follow the cookie-cutter DPS Tac formula, this may be a sign of good things to come.
