Systems Designer Andrew "ArchonCryptic" Rowe reveals details about Romulan ship progression in this entry of the Legacy of Romulus News Dev Blog series.
I presume certain C-Store ships still yield the fleet module discount on purchasing fleet vessels? The entry was less than specific about how much of a markdown.
I do like the idea that Romulans can't use T5 allied ships and are limited to their own ships at end-game. I think this usefully maintains their distinctiveness as a faction at the end-game.
Of course, they willneed more ships, because from what I can see, their Tier 5 ships are:
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
I hope however the final stats of the ships turn out, that Romulans will have access to dedicated science vessels... it seems very Romulan to me. And Carriers please ! And timeships !
I also like the T5 restriction for allied ships, well done !
Why do the D'ridthau and Valdore classes look so different from how they appear in the Legacy Pack pics? The Valdore should look like this.
That could be a Fleet version.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
OK, Starter pack is ordered, and an upgrade to the Fleet T'Varo/T'Liss will be coming as soon as I hit the level it needs. Cloak, charge HY3, uncloak and let fly with all torps - old school romulan style.

FYI all - Dan Stahl confirmed last night in TTS that the Scimitar is not going to be available at launch but it IS coming and it is NOT going to be in a lock box. Hopefully that heads off the incoming wave of hysteria when people don't see it but do see mention of future lock boxes.
My bet is that it's a 5000 Zen 3-pack ship, but time will tell.
So the temporal ships (Wells/ Mobius) aren't useable by Romulan Captains according to the blog, but it does mention the possibility of ROM captains being able to use future specific romulan lockbox ships - does that mean the temporal ships may get a ROM variant?
I have been saving a set of the Temporal ships to use with a ROM captain - would really like to know if a ROM temporal variant is potentially coming or not???
I just want to be able to use the temporal ships (as I enjoy those) and now you've killed that idea... TRIBBLE.
From the blog:
In addition, they can use any Romulan-specific ships that we add to Lock Boxes or the Lobi Store at a later time.
That means Cryptic can add Rom ships to any Lockbox in the future - including Time Ships.

The Valdore got cheated out of being the best looking ship. Those wings are way smoother and simpler than the concept art, they're missing some meat at the ends too. In contrast, the body looks more rigid and flat than the concept. It's such a shame. Hopefully it's an early model, bad lighting, or my poor perception. TRIBBLE time or whatever else stopped you guys from really loosing that beast of a design.

Just one quick thing to clarify - if you own the Retrofit version of a ship, you'll get a discount on buying the Fleet version, similar to existing ships.
Cool. When can we see what the costumes look like mixed-and-matched? The D'Deridex is cool all on its own, but I'm curious as to what it looks like with the D'ridthau pieces.
Good blog but Was hoping to put one of my Romulans inside of a cloaking Defiant.
That's OK. It solves a big forum argument by them doing it that way. Better a few disappointed then thousands angry.

So, unless we spend zen we're limited to one T5 ship and no choice in lighter or more agile vessels with different roles? Well, I think I'll stick to my Federation character, thanks.
P2W faction much?
Somebody getting uppity about canon? No problem! Just take a deep breath, and repeat after me:

Stick to whatever you like. No one's forcing anyone to play anything they don't want to play.

No people already raging on the little facebook thingy about it's not right that the won't use RA and VA ships of ally.
this is the forums you know no one is ever happy .
I'm sure those were the same people 10 days ago raging that you could use T5 ships for Roms.

Of course, they willneed more ships, because from what I can see, their Tier 5 ships are:
1. Ha'apax, Fleet Ha'apax, Fleet Ha'apax Refit
2. T'varo Retrofit, Fleet T'varo Retrofit
3. Dhelan Retrofit, Fleet Dhelan Retrofit
4. Mogai Retrofit, Fleet Mogai Retrofit
5. D'Deridex Retrofit, Fleet D'Deridex Retrofit.
There's basically five Romulan ships out there, plus some upgrades to those five ships. even the Klingons have more.
I can dig it.

I'll also throw my support behind dedicated Romulan science ships. Romulan raiders would be nice, too
They even have a specific Science Vessel design in canon: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Romulan_science_vessel
And something like this could work as a Captain's Yacht/Chariot.
On another note, I too am pleased that Romulans can only use Romulan ships at T5.

IMO it looks better than the concept art, the concept art is again...a concept.

Why are they a science based faction? They aren't Vulcans, they're Romulans.

It would have made me disappointed to see romulans flying Oddys and Borta's out there.
Good job.
And what's with that singularity core looking pic? The one we saw in TNG was much smaller: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Romulan_technology#Artificial_quantum_singularity_reactor
Also, when you say "address" the 1,000 day ship issue, you mean "give Romulans a ship asap", right?
P2W faction much?

I'm sure if TNG had a higher budget we would've seen a more impressive singularity core, but in universe this could mean it's more advanced/powerful.
As far as Romulan captains being unable to fly Tier 5 allied ships, thank you, good decision.
