Personally, I like the Voyager, Orion, Romulan and Reman schemes of the UI. I'm loving the look of it on Tribble. It's an awesome piece of work done by the devs, at least in my opinion.

In some places it looks really nice, but in most I had feeling like I had been working at Windows 95 again.

    In before the rage starts.

I love it, it's a million times better than the current UI. While I hated it when I first set foot on tribble, after 6 hours it really grew on me. More user friendly, cleaner and less jarring - and it's not even finished yet.

    Superb work devs!

Personally I'm more interested in the huge decrease in memory and CPU footprint. I've managed to turn my laptop up of of minimum settings and still get a framerate improvement over live, and the newest patch notes say they've reduced the memory footprint even more from that.

I love the new changes really helps with immersion! Going on tribble myself so far the only visual thing i don't like is that all the npc and other players show as green..why? please let us have the option to change it to blue..please! the green just doesn't feel right while playing Fed.

Looks awesome! (Though, I've already tested it on Tribble, so it's not an opinion based on screenshots.)

    One thing...
One of the best things about working on an MMO is that is never finished

Shouldn't that be "One of the best things about working on an MMO is that it is never finished"?

Been enjoying the new UI on Tribble, makes me sad to come back to live.

Yellow Alert when hostiles are nearby, but not engaged, might be neat. Or even when you are in one of those funky nebulas that disrupt ship systems.

I am kind of liking this.

I saw it for a little while on Tribble, and I must say the overall feel is nice.

I am curious of the Red Alert though... Is this on Tribble yet?
I would like to see how this works. As you mention through out the blog, one of the goals was to keep the UI from distracting.
Wouldn't a pulsing red display kind of defeat that purpose?

I'm really hoping that the new UI means that the PvP queues will be moved out of the drop down arrow and given their own button.

From what I here, it's a very subtle glow, though I have yet to test it.

    This.

And maybe 'grey mode' when you're in those funky sensor jamming nebulas or high-magnesite asteroid fields.

While I know we never saw this in the show, since Cloaking is new on Federation ships and, as we saw on DS9, they couldn't keep the Defiant's lights on while cloaked (in fact they had to cut main power completely), could we maybe see that triggering a 'grey mode' which is essentially cutting all but main power?

Also, perhaps a 'Blue Alert' when we hit Spacedock Control Area (the point where you're stuck to manoeuvring jets) at ESD?

    okay, so...this is worse.

no border shadow to the windows make them look flat. the borders of the windows are unnecessarily thicker than they should be. the federation bold font was changed to federation standard and loses it's bold, making it super thin and the shadow distorts the label when viewed in black space. chat no longer has channel labels, now requires user to color code each custom chat channel with a specific color to separate them when shown on same chat tab. power presets don't match the corresponding subsystem labels underneath the respective power levels, thus making the presets confusing for new players.

you know what i liked about the current user interface design? it's clean.

Again, another potentially great improvement to the game that wasn't executed well. Some parts of the new UI look as if it was made in MS paint or something. But the rest looks really nice and feels more like Star Trek.

Check your game res. I thought the same thing until I realised my resolution was set to 840x420 (I just know I've butchered that ) instead of the monitor resolution. It looked fine after that.

    Ugh :(
On tribble, I don't think that any of those colour schemes is usable due to the contrast between colours. I find it painful to use for more than a few mins at a time.
Perhaps this could be mitigated if one could turn down brightness or contrast of the UI separately from the game itself? Or better still, let us change the UI colours ourselves, rather than a few colour schemes.
Personally, I would choose keep the fed "blue on blue". It's much easier on these old eyeballs of mine.

For as long as I have known of this new UI, I've had the feeling that it is simply for the sake of it, rather than reasons of practicality. Even after the last tribble patch, I've been seeing higher cpu usage than on holodeck, with the same ram usage and for what? A set of colour schemes that I cannot use for more than a minute or two at a time?
Although with that said, I assume that there are a load of extra testing and sanity checks running in the background on tribble?

Maybe I should upgrade from eyes v0.89? :P
    I need a beer.

    :confused::confused::confused:

High contrast is the definition of usability. Low contrast = unusable. Think about how hard it would be to have yellow buttons with pink text on them.

Not sure about the new UI. Looks good in one place but really bad in the other. It would be great if a user could set up custom colours on heir PC though.

I don't. Faction independent lets me play any faction with the scheme that I like using. The Faction dependent red on KDF side currently has completely kept me from making a KDF character. So this is a good thing.

Perhaps it is just me, but I really struggle when I go on tribble to test.

The main problem for me is that the colors are just too bright and hurt my eyes after a while. Is there any possibility to turn down the "glow-level" of the UI?

Sadly, after looking at the pics in the blog, I find the initial mockup LCARS far more appealing, because it was even clearer and not that edgy as the current (RoR) UI.

My question for Thomas would be: Is ...
    a) there a possibility for tuning the glow-i-ness of the colors?
    b) the UI still in progress and are you going to address the pixel-ish edges of the UI

And with pixel-ish I mean for example the shield facings bars.

Some of it is nice BUT!....

They really didnt improve any functionality or fix things that have been annoying since beta.

    The spacing is very off.

The Target icon is way to big and intrusive and distracting.

The dialogue windows are HUGE and intrusive. It gets old and annoying very very fast. Like 1/2 the screen is covered so some BO can say "Warp to Regulus?". The buttons are also a bit hard to find. A major step backward IMO since we had the same issue in BETA with overly large useless pop-ups. And this game has too many pop ups as it is.

Lots of other things are also a bit bigger. Like buttons wrapped in a useless window.

Changes the look a little but IMO really improves nothing. More or less a new skin.

I also find most of the color choices aside from the stock fed one to not be the best color. Would rather have just had the ability to color it ourselves

You're mad at choice? The thing that makes everything better for everybody? You know you can just choose to use Red on KDF Only, Blue on Fed only, Green on Rom only? And that another player's UI color has no effect on you at all?

Also there is a big difference between Space and Ground in how it looks. Mainly because I guess space is all black background.

I'd say the shield balancing portion of the UI should definitely get another pass. Someone commented to the dev blog that it was jagged and bulky, I agree. They added some transparency during the last patch. I think they should increase the transparency and add a little by more in some areas.

Also the color scheme is not saved per character. When I logged into my Klink on Tribble I got the Federation scheme, then I changed the scheme to Klingon and played. When I switched back to the Fed character, you still have the Klingon color scheme. That is stupid...

Some colors are definitely too bright. The light blue in the Federation scheme is assaulting to the eyes. I even adjusted the brightness to be considerably lower than the default and it is still bad.

Il ask the same thing I did in Tribble, is the new UI more or less memory intensive than the old one?
