Help with Fleet Varanus plasma build

I am in the process of rebuilding my Fleet Varanus for Plasma damage. I'm basically trying to maximize DPS while still maintaining a respectable level of Sci support stuff. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Recommendations in Green

    Put skill points into Particle Generators, Graviton Generators, and Subspace Recompiler.

    Another recommendation, depending on your preferences, is to put on an Aceton Assimilator in favor of the zero point energy conduit. Goal here, is when you get mixed with enemy ships, both PVP and PVE, deploy it beside the vessels after they get sucked into your gravity well, and follow up with a photonic shockwave.

    In PVP, you'll render most escorts quite useless in doing so, long enough for the heavy hitters on your team to finish them.

    Thanks for the tips. Mk XII very rare tac consoles are the goal, but I'm not currently up for spending 40 or 50 million EC for each one. I will look into PSW, for sure. On the Grav Scientist front, I've tried to put more than one on active and it won't let me. According to a quick google search, that's working as intended.

    Well, I only have 1, I don't have any others (out of 255 DOffs) so I wouldn't know overall. They are heavily rare.....

    Looks like a decent build, but a Kar'fi would be much more suited to the job. You could transfer the build over to it mostly, and add elite scorpion fighters.

    Dual Beam Banks deal more damage than Single Cannons, and are compatible with Beam: Fire At Will.

    You're missing Tactical Team entirely, though, which is probably one of the best abilities in the game for its rapid shield redistribution.

    Does the minus threat work for your consoles? I swear it does not work on mine and I have a full set as well. I think it is reversed to be frank. I fly by cubes in STFs not even targeting them and they lock on me. It it vexing to say the least.....

    KarFi is a horrible Science Vessel, compared to the Van.... Van is much better. (And more pleasing to the eyes)

    And on Gorn vessels, I prefer the single cannons, because they look cooler for the Gorn ships..

    Depending on the role you want the Karfi to do it can be better or worse then the Varanus.
    For drain builds, the Karfi is better, and for plasma dot builds the Karfi is also better due to pets that can drain or apply plasma dot.

    The problem is this game is DPS orientated, so pure sci ship is almost never needed. Carriers let you have just enough sci to support while still having way more DPS then sci ships like varanus.


    For the OP: didn't notice this in my earlier post, but if you really must use a Varanus for a plasma build ditch the cutting beam. You only have 6 weapon slots and 1 of them is a torpedo, so you won't run in to any power drain issues so the 2 piece set bonus from cutting beam isn't needed. You need to use all of your limited weapon slots for plasma weapons. also sci consoles should all be switched to plasma infused versions, not shield heal.

    I didn't catch the shield heal he had on it.
