Alter the bust slider a bit please? (Character Creator)

Yes, I'm gonna talk about THAT.

Ok, I know most MMOs are about 13yo male demographic eager to see enormous polygons on their skimpy clothed characters. And yes, most developers are well aware of this, making continuous efforts to please this specific playerbase. Heck, even Cryptic did so with the giant Vulcan cleavage on the main page recently.

Still, when it comes to in-game character models I've always been honestly disturbed and somewhat disgusted with the character creator's bust slider option. In short, even at absolute minimum the chest is quite... well-endowed... Above one bar it starts to look unnatural, even for games standards, while everything above two bars is in my humble opinion disgustingly oversized. Don't even get me started on how it looks maxed out...

I was particuarly surprised with this when I saw Tasha Yar character in game... Yeah, not really the way I remember her from the show...

Ok, I know this is what most players want - giant jugs in their fantasy video games. It's their problem and one can only learn to ignore it. But still, is it asking too much to tweak the slider at least a little bit the other way, so that it would allow players to make their characters and bridge officers look a bit more natural?

Because as it is now it looks as if Starfleet forces their female officers to undergo breast enlargement therapy... As if mandatory TOS mini-skirts weren't enough...

As much as I hate the boob flashing in modern Starfleet, I believe more that better more choice, than less.

Like allowing all factions to use each other's ships and join each other's fleets, not just the Romulans. At the very least people would stop WAILING about balance. Commander Riker had a BoP once, as did Dukat, as did Kira with the Defiant. Lots of ships trading hands. And after all, isn't Star Trek really about everyone coming together in enlightened harmony?

    So, more choice, the better.

Leave your house once in a while cause you seem to have never seen an average woman outside of video games.

    And troll someplace else.

I don't mind players running around in their perfect unrealistic avatars that much, but I for one would like to see some more natural options and proportion available. As it is now we can't make a truly chubby characters (more like pregnant, or having a beer-gut), flat-chested ones, there are no glasses options and other alike. Everyone's perfect. I know it's a video game, but again, having more options is always better than having few. And these are only the examples.

Studies show that contrary to popular belief, female players enjoy making sexy avatars.

It makes sense. We have a desire to be attractive. Why would be choose not to in a virtual world as well?

    Leave my TRIBBLE alone!

Edit: And it does allow flat chested females. The lowest setting is smaller then my 12 year old daughter. Seems to me somebody can't handle the female form...

All my characters have larger TRIBBLE than I do, you just can't bring them to smaller sizes in the game. Funny that some people don't know you can't make smaller once, guess whats what happens when you bring to max immediately.

Cryptic once explain this (I think it was cryptic). You can not have flat chested females because with the alien editor you can make a child captain. Same goes with the male shadow beard that you can not remove.

My only problem with big TRIBBLE is that the comm badges end up slicing into them. Ouch!

Disgusted? Pretty much every VA/ LTG level character in game has surpassed Pol Pot in the genocide stakes, I would have thought that may have caused more issues than the STO average bust size.

I wouldn't mind if they turned the TRIBBLE dial back a bit. Huge TRIBBLE and that yeast-infection pose, I feel like my toon should keep some distance. Its alright for Orions, inappropriate for starfleet.

    He is not alone

Frankly the bust slider should go half as far as it does (unless artificial gravity has been dramatically reduced) as many of the Boffs I see on new romulus can barely stand upright

    Yes

    And yes

    And yes

    Aaaaaand yup

All screenshots taken with slider at minimum. Kind of Mazinger-ish if you ask me.

Honestly, not sure why so many people felt offended with this thread (unless I hit a nerve with that 13yo demographic thing). Personally I couldn't care less about what you do with your characters and boffs in a video game. You could be that 13yo male, an average joe, or that girl wanting her avatar to look pretty (btw. busty ≠ pretty). If the game does allow it and you like it, that's perfectly fine. My point is, it doesn't seem to work this way the other way around.

Trivial matter, sure, but I for one would really like to see character creator options expanded, not only in terms of chests and women, but other examples mentioned eariler, that would allow our characters to look less ideal and more normal. As it is now, it's either making an alien or making an old character in most cases.

To those who say the low end is "flat enough", the OP may have a point in that he can't go completely flat. However, this is mostly because Cryptic wants to avoid the appearance of "children".

To those who say the upper end is "too big", you are wrong, plain and simple. There are thousands, if not millions, of women who have naturally large chests.

Now, should the lower limit be made smaller? sure. But leave the upper limit alone.

Oh, and one more thing... the reason people in Star Trek are "perfect" is because it's the future, and everyone in the future is perfect. :P

It certainly needs a lower setting. I think it also needs a larger setting. I base most of my BOffs on friends, and in both directions I cannot emulate some of them. Likewise we need a better option for chubby and overweight characters.

And the argument about not making child captains makes no sense at all. We have people running around as Captain Homer Simspon and you say we cannot make a child? They would be useful in Foundry design. If there is worry of people RPing sex with minors, that is what the report button is for.

There are a lot of aliens who shouldn't have cleavage at all, and some that should have more than two TRIBBLE. The gender-neutral species that Riker fools around with in TNG comes in mind, I would play one of them.

While this one is kinda stupid ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXWrOQZSuRc

It is canon, and someone may want to make this species.

Most multi breasted races would have them still in pairs likely above one another like a dog or a cat.

Saurian probably shouldn't have cleavage at all btw.

The game couldn't have a Teen ESRB rating if it allowed people to make childlike characters. Because of the potential for depicting violence against children.

you havnt seen the 2ft toons running around esd and qonos with guns & batleth bigger than they are.

yeah, I know people can do that, but Cryptic's reasoning is that children can't have C-cups or 5o'clock shadows. So if all characters are so endowed, they can't be children. It might not be perfect, but it's enough to keep the ESRB off their backs.

    Op is so funny.

Anything below 2 bars out of 5 in the bust slider is as flat as you can see on the streets.

Though I personally find anything with less then 3 out of 5 bars in the bust slider downright unattractively flat.

    http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs42/f/2009/075/4/9/Flatseer_by_IronShrineMaiden.jpg

Yeah. I see flat characters all around.

And I never, ever saw a real adult woman with anything as flat as the minimal bust slider. That is flatter then some males , lol.

So the current slider allows you to be much flatter then the average female (of a state where there is no famine) .
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
