So they basically made trics useless in the patch before last halving their damage and now they are totally unusable and more dangerous to those who use them than the opponent. So why not get rid of them all together and just have one weapon type, one boring mode of attack and no variation in the game whatsoever. No tactics, no flair, no fun. Let the PvPer have their own way all the time!

PvP had nothing to do with it. They where buffed beyond reasons and then nerfed again.
Why? Because at first they where rather useless, then they allowed players to one shot borg cubes and gates in Elite STFs, reducing those gameplay to absurdity. CSE in 2 minutes?
That is why they where nerfed.
No the nerfs of the last two patches that concerned trics were not reversed at all, they do half damage for half cool-down but they were always about spike damage never DPS. Now taking damage from your own trics is beyond ridiculous and fine the first buff halving the damage and the cooldown was to stop people abusing STF's but making them damage the player who laid them is nothing to do with that. The way to fix that problem was by fixing the gates and cubes not uber nerfing trics
They are beyond useless now, at least for me they are
ive never used trics, the torpedo reloading time takes an age and the damage you can do with torpedoes like Plasma with heavy torps and the chances are good for at least 1 or 2 crits, it can match the damage of a tric in half that time and double it by the time the thing fires. then there is the chance the damned thing will be shot down before it reaches its target... it put me off in late 2010 when i started and i never saw the use in them since.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I could understand them reducing their Damage so they could feel more functional so they could work with High Yield and Torpedo Spread. But I sure missed the high numbers Tricobalts sometimes gave off. (My favorite memory was me in my Sovereign in PvP before Season 5, 1-shotting a BoP who ignored the Tricobalt, thinking it was going to shrug it off.)
And I can understand them nerfing Tricobalt Mines because of how exploited they were in PvP and the STFs.
But what I do not understand with the recent changes with Tricobalts, is with Season 7, why didn't they go back to the previous Tricobalt build, where you only had the one mine? Because that's when trouble started is when they made Tricobalt mines functional with Pattern Alpha and Beta. They were better off left alone. Because people stopped using the other mines because Tricobalts were a literal "bang for your buck", while other mines were just useless spam.
Because instead of nerfing upon nerfing, sometimes the better course was for Cryptic to just revert to a previous build. And that is something I'll never understand about Cryptic. Sometimes, its better to leave well enough alone.

I don't use Tricobalts either... but the tricobalt detonation does kinda appear as though it should be AoE.
If you can hit yourself with a HY Plasma if you shoot it off too close... wouldn't it make sense that a Tricobalt blast would also hit you as well? Otherwise you could just park yourself on top of something and Tricobalt it to death point blank. Basically... treat a Tric as a heavy plasma.
Tricobalt Torpedoes could make a good artillery weapon though...
I like how since the changes/nerfs Tricobalt mines do about as much damage as Quantum mines, both using dispersal beta 3, only with longer cooldown and the potential to damage yourself too. What's the point of Tricobalts now? Seems it would've been better to just leave them as they were instead of turning them into steaming piles of fertilizer.
One time I was spinning out of control on a bridge that was covered in ice.
Very slowly.
I got through the incident by sitting there and sighing loudly until my car stopped.
Ooooh "sighing" loudly. I read that wrong and thought you said singing loudly. Pictured someone covering their ears, closing their eyes and just singing until they crashed.

They oversteer, then overcorrect, then oversteer again etc.
So at what point do they lose control and hit the tree??
