FvF and the Romulan factor.

Just dawned on me that I can take a team of allied Fed Romulans with cloaked Romulan ships into FvF queues and fight Federation players. Since Dstal said that FvF is the most popular way to pvp I should have plenty of Fed targets for my Warbird.

Still believe there are a bunch of Feds that run KDF toons because of the cloak. If they can cloak Fed-side, they'll have no need to run KDF-side. Much like part of KvK is the cloak, that too will also diminish the number of willing participants for FvK.

Even FvF will eventually dwindle to FvK or KvK numbers.

I'd say Romulans will be the death of PvP.

Then again, if you read through the Ask Cryptic thread - the "Hey guys, why are we fighting?" thing is still there on the whiteboard. They're still going to kill the Fed-KDF War somewhere down the line. It will be everybody against all the other baddies in the Universe, sort of thing.

So perhaps at some point, it will just be XvY where both X and Y are simply a mix of everything. Basically, after the KDF become "allies" of the Federation - everything will be FvF wargames as Captains hone their skills against one another - to fight a common enemy with all the intelligence and ability of a rotting potato.

I'm normally just critical, but this Romulan thing - has me over the edge at negative... it's mind-boggling.

When Gozer was still with Cryptic he was supposed to revamp the PvP system. One thing he mentioned was that Cryptic plans to get rid of the different queues and create mixed teams of both factions (now three factions). People here on the forums then already concluded that Cryptic will end the war between Feds and KDF and will probably ally them against the Iconians. PvP will then not be a portrait of the war anymore but probably just training exercises. The design decisions with the Romulan faction fit into that picture.

And yeah, Romulans and cloak will be death of PvP. KvK is a "no no" because of cloak - thatwas the common Klink explanation why they do not KvK. Only after Romulans showed they started to talk about honor, lack of fun in killing themselves and other such bull****.

And cloak in FvF and FvK will kill it too. Cryptic does not need to do anything. Just upgrade Roms. If they ever get battle cloak...

At least AFKer s will be in seven heaven. I mean - cloak, leave spawn, go "somewhere" - wet dream of anyone worthy the anem AFKer.

The cloak is part of several factors.

    Cloak
    Population
    Gear
The KDF don't shed as many tears for nourishment as the Feds do.

    There are many factors involved.

I do not think cloak will change much. KvK will be dead not because of cloak, but aceton and pet spams. I like PvP not clearing NPCs.

    KvK Never died.

    It simply never existed.

There is enough klinks quing for KvK PvP for around 1 hour out of 24 every day.

During that hour the feds in the Ques in general ensure the KvK matches only pop a few times a week.

Battle cloaks won't make FvF dead... just more interesting.

I guess we'll see when battle cloak invades FvF... it won't doom it.

Heck FvF might even become playable, no more 1 hour games... thank the maker. Woops wrong ip

Someone talking sense, about time. Fighting teams of rogues is never fun for anyone other than the rogues, cloaking is the same concept. Even if they make XvX teams where everything is mixed the inclusion of cloak everywhere will still kill what PvP remains. If Cryptic wanted to keep some semblance of PvP alive they'd better start working on PvPvE type maps.

...t working on PvPvE type maps.

I think there are a ton of pvp players that don't do kerrat cause of all the rouges.

Although I would love new kerrat style maps myself... I hardly think that would quite any anti cloak qq.

I'm not sure about PvPvE maps. Part of what they were discussing about separate PvP and Competitive PvE instances working together sounded somewhat interesting - though, sounded like they had it backward. The PvE guys shouldn't put a turret on the PvP map, the PvP guys should put a turret on the PvE map. It's that whole vE not vP thing...er...you know?

Considering Cryptic's track-record of resolving things off-stage in fan magazines (the entire Undine thing for starters) or making major changes by using short-paragraph 'letters' in blog posts, instead of, y'know, actual game play reasons (see: New Romulus), PvP degrading to 'training exercises' is likely.

At which point it's also likely that PvP will lose much of its attraction, thus enabling it to be put down like an ailing pet.

Nah, they'll just do 'rogue houses/captains' or whathaveyou. There'll be plenty of reason to have entire fleets worth of 'enemies' from an otherwise allied faction given the breadth of the war. Alternatively, you could easily do it as mirror incursions or the like- those feds aren't the ones we're allied with, they're the bad guys.

I just find it humorous they used the war as the reason when they have hardly ever used the war for anything else and barely even acknowledge it exists in game, considering the lacking content that it does not have.

"Endgame" suggests that the War is actually over, if one thinks about it. The War actually only exists leading up to the Fed and KDF working together. Since the timeline is not really advancing, they're doing the prequel thing - which would mean the War did matter, even if it no longer does.

It's 2409...but the guy you're chatting to in the game, well - it might be Feb 14th 2409 while it is August 30th 2409 for you. Another guy might be January 3rd, somebody else September 21st, etc, etc, etc.

It's the Romulan Prequel, so to speak.

One could see where if they add Cardassians, tada, they'd do the same thing. The Cardassian Prequel...with certain Cardassians choosing to align with the Feds/KDF during the War before leading up to the lack of the War that exists at the latter points in 2409.

That's the part I find most funny... I'm not even sure you can call the romulans a faction from what I have heard.

Perhaps it will feel different when we see it. So far though it just feels like an enhanced racial option... one in which after the first 30min to 1hr of game play (assuming you take your time) you pretty much just have a new fed or klink toon.

I guess no one really expected them to create an actual faction... still seems disingenuous to be marketing it as a faction at this point. Of course I could be wrong.
