Confront the Hirogen??

This morning I decided to work on the "Hunting the Hunters" story mission. So I get to the Mylasa system. Then my officer comments on how we had to (yes HAD) deal with the Hirogen. Except, I never actually encounter/fought any Hirogen.

I check my mission progress, and sure enough there was a "Confront the Hirogen" part in the mission tracker, which registers as complete. Even though, again I never fought any Hirogen and in fact had only just entered the system.

Is this intended, or did a find some sort of bug that skips part of the mission?

    Normally there is a hunter escort you have to defeat first. I barely noticed it, it was killed with the first volley, the poor thing.

    When you warped in, they were in so much awe and fear of you that they self-destructed...?

    I did this mission a few hours ago, only 3 of the 5 ships were actually in the mission so two despawned on me before I reached them. I caught a very brief glimpse of one of the ships despawning (looked like it was being beamed out).
