Best PvE starter set for ESTFs?

My main is a Fed and I'm starting out a new Klingon alt. It's been a long time since I had a starter character. My new KDF is an engineer in a BoP. I'm wondering what the best set, or gear, would be to level my KDF character. I'm almost through with the story line missions so I've got Jem'Hadar Mk X and Breen Mk XI.

I'm looking for the best setup to run ESTFs. Ultimately I want to get KHG Deflector and Engine with Assimilated shield (I think). Should I use Jem'Hadar, Breen, or go back and replay the episode missions for other gear?

Of the mission sets you can get, Jem'Hadar Mk XI is most end-game worthy, particularly if you drop the deflector for a nice Positron one for added survivability. The Reman shield from Coliseum can be gotten at Mk XI if you redo the mission if you like Covariant shields.

You could also grab Mk XII standard gear off the exchange. Mk XII gear like Sheilds and Deflectors don't go for much more than scrap value currently, so picking up Mk XII [cap][res] shield of your prefered type might be a good way to transition.

If you're willing to throw down the Dil for it, the Advanced Fleet gear is decent enough for ESTFs, and Elite is usually even better if your fleet has access to it(close enough that you may not need to transition to STF sets).

I'll second the Jem'Hadar set. It's quite nice, especially if you use polaron. I've used it in ESTFs with great success.

Jem engine and shield are solid, maybe swap in a Positron deflector. Alternately, positron deflector, Efficient Impulse Engines from "Second Star To The Right," and a Resilient shield with [cap] [pla].

Also don't forget some kind of kinetic armor, either Neutronium or Monotanium. Plasma burns add up, but its the kinetic impacts that are the real killer.

Thanks all. I got 2 Neutronium armor consoles and I think I'll go back and get the Jem"hadar Mk XI set.

Jem'Hadar Mk XI set with Polaron weapons and Polaron Phase Modulator tactical consoles is hands down the best set to start doing ESTF missions. You should use at least 1 Monotanium Alloy and 1 Electroceramic Hull Plating armor consoles. Adding a Neutronium Alloy console is also good.

I've never used Polaron weapons I don't think. Hadn't even thought about them. But, the 2-piece bonus does boost polaron weapons doesn't it?

Yes it does increase Polaron damage.

I'd recommend the jem set as well... though it really depends upon build.
an often over looked set is the aegis set too, albeit for certain builds.

^That, with the a combination of +shield systems and +sif on the positron array. One of the better combinations for endurance, without spending dil.

First, you could get rid of that combination. I imagine you're stuck with the engineer, but that is what it is.

Overall those two just do not compliment each other very well at all. Anyone can feel free to come along and share their opinion on that. And it will be an opinion. Facts on the other hand show that....those two just do not compliment each other very well.

Power management and strong self heals are best in something that could make use of such things. Like a Raptor or a Cruiser. So change ships. Unless of course you're into that entire "oh I can make a better wheel than you guys can" mindset. In that case feel free.

In any case the following vids may help out. There's builds in them for under 500K EC and then you get to see them being used in an Elite.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBTMnLk8M-E KDF cruiser. More like a engineering escort really.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2NN_gbMYrUVghnvwjqWrjE7U3S3tU9Dj Budget build. It's a Bortas, but can be applied to any KDF Cruiser.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H-W54fqR0U Budget build for a FDC. This is all turrets as well. Sort of interesting.

    Cheers!

I have a Engineer in a B'Rel as well as a Tactical and a Science. I like having universal slots to do different things. With my Engineer I like to use Gravity Well I and Eject Warp Plasma III. It has been a great combo to keep multiple Spheres in a area to allow teammates to kill them more easily in the Infected: The Conduit mission. In Khitomer Vortex you will have no trouble taking care of Probes. The Engineer helps to keep the ship alive with abilities they provide.

The Engineer may not be the best choice when using a B'Rel but it sure is fun for me.

Well you got a great point. Engineers as captains really enhance those abilities! Even if they come in third in what they bring to the table as a Captain in that ship, doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

Aaaannnnd....he's asking about elite. Just saying.

That is in Elite STF missions. I don't do regular ones except when I have a character below level 50

KDF engineer capns have the unique option to play almost like tac capns cos the KDF battlecrusiers can play as escorts. I've got a fleet vorcha on my eng toon and by Kahless balls its a glorious ship! You can stack dual heavies too and not suffer from turn rate issues that plagues fed cruisers.

OT, the jem hadar set is pretty decent starter set when coupled with polaron (or those new phased polarons) if you dont have any of the other sets (Omega, KHG)

We still live!!!!! Hahahahahahahahaa! We live and we will conquer!!!!! Hahahahahaaha!

-Roach, when asked about Klingon extinction!

Best gear, lowest cost: Jem'hadar Impuls Engine, Resilient Shield array mk xii [cap] [pla] [reg] or [cap]x2 [pla] and a positron deflector. All you need for Elite.
