Ok, I took my Sci/Sci into a pvp match (fleet Nova, CC/DPS (as best I can) build) and I was... well, less than effective.
I want to get more competent in both 1v1 and group pvp so here I am (a good student) looking for a teacher. I missed the bootcamp as I didn't see the adverts but even so...
Hope you find one, but if you don't, Boot Camp reboots in April, I believe.

Feel free to hit me up in game when ya catch me. @matteo716. I know a thing or 2 about science, also.... Feel free to check out my YouTube vids to see a science ship in action :P
Best to make friends with people in STO who PvP on the regular and/or have good knowledge of PvP in general.
I pvp in escorts, Cruisers, and Carriers. My career is tactical. You science career, with some practice, can be made to employ a deadly array of debuffing across the battefield. If you wish to get some help with PvP, Matteo looks like he knows his stuff, and so do I, but there is lots of people who you can find to help you. The PvP boot camp is also VERY nice source of info, i suggest you join in as previously mentioned in this thread.

I suggest joining a pvp fleet. Most of us will take newbies and train you.
Unfortunately, I don't think that's good advice anymore. For feds, any fleet outside of Sad Pandas, Inner Circle, TSI, or Turkish RP Heroes isn't likely to teach good habits. Orion Slave Girls' PvP section is arguably the only decent Klingon team. Go outside of those fleets, and it's the blind leading the blind. However, on the fed side at least, none of the those fleets are likely to recruit newbies (Pandas is a possible exception, as we tend to recruit more on maximum potential than current ability). It's a tough spot to be in.
My advice is to forget about finding a fleet that does PvP and will accept you, because the ones that will probably aren't competent. Instead, seek out the best players and train with them. While none of the federation fleets I mentioned are likely to accept you as a fresh recruit, they will certainly help you if you ask for it. Train with them and they'll make you a far better player than you'd be if you joined a fail fleet.
Kai has already offered help, and it would be wise to at least hear him out. I can also tutor you if you want, and maybe even get you in on a few premade teams with the Pandas. There's nothing better than a fresh slate who's willing to learn!
Not many people will devote a lot of time to training someone out of their fleet, though, unless they already know you.
Not entirely true. Pandas will devote mad effort to training any player that has the right attitude to learn, but we won't waste much time on people who are incapable of attaining high level play. This means you need to be open minded, slow to anger, moderately intelligent, and at least moderately competitive. If you meet those criteria, we can work with you. After all, the more great players we have playing STO the better PvP becomes for all of us.

PvP Boot Camp was made just for people like you. In fact, we have a session this coming Tuesday that you could certainly join in. We will be covering some really basic issues.
In addition to the generous offer you received from Mai Kai and Hurleybird/Pandas (both of which you really should follow up on, given their incredible talent) Turkish RP Heroes/TRH would be more than happy to welcome you to our TeamSpeak server. Education is at the heart of our fleet. Just send me an email ingame for the TeamSpeak information (see sig below for @handle)

TRH poaches every decent player they can from any fleet they see, Pandas have done it too. Without "the blind leading the blind" fleets, there would be NO Pandas to laugh at.

So I just got promoted to Lt. Com. and got my free ship and I went to the 2nd floor and yadi yadda and got it but: How can I switch to that ship or even make it appear? How does that work?
For feds, any fleet outside of Sad Pandas, Inner Circle, TSI, or Turkish RP Heroes isn't likely to teach good habits.
I admit that I have to agree with aquitaine985's sentiment .
Those are some poorly chosen words that don't highlight positively neither the fleet's you've mentioned nor the PvP community as a whole .
Note : it does not take a genius to come up with sword/shield co-op tactics (ppl have been doing that since the days board games were popular) .
And while that kind of gameplay can be satisfying for some , I think that many will attest that these very tactics are the ones which turn the 'noobs' off from puging PvP (and thus PvP in general) .
But one mans castle is another mans hovel I suppose .
Here's wishing the OP good luck !

I'd totally concede you the moderately intelligent bit. As a group I'd say you've staked out that piece of ground very securely.
I doubt you'll see any serious competition for it.

Instead of uniting fleet to become better to have a healthy pvp community you divide and push away other players. I apologize for anyone who get offended by this player. sound like he has little man complex
Wow all other fleets are a waste of time. This type of attitude is why pvp is in the state it is. TRIBBLE. is always willing to take in new players we have over 400 members all willing to help out. We have brought in more people to pvp in the last 2 months then there are people playing pvp atm. Most of the players were pvers and now they love pvp. No we dont claim to be the best like some other fleets do but we have been playing since beta and have alot to offer. If some of the other fleets would open there doors and stop keeping the secrets for themselves pvp would thrive. The reason pvp is hurting atm is for years you couldnt get in a fleet without already being a good pvper and good luck getting a good pvper to teach you catch 22.Most just gave up never to pvp again. If you think pvp will continue to survive with this elitist mentality you are wrong. The goal of the community should be to open its doors invite in new players not just good pvpers we all know we werent born good pvpers we all had help. Im sure some remember the old days in lore when people werent as good as they are now.

Serious part of response:
See I agree. Always there's someone in TRIBBLE. ready to get into a tussle or two in a pug match. Proteus, Lafamilia and that one dude from QA. So to say there's only a couple of fleets that the sun shines upon is clearly uncalled for. And the KDF is a a case of the blind leading the blind?
Well at least we're helpers! You can't take THAT away from us!
If you look really really close, you can see some feds grappling with basic teamwork. Must be some of those 'moderately intelligent' ones that slipped into the fleets.
First off I wanna start with hurley. Get back under your bridge and eat mud.
Naming only a few fleets that you either belong to or that you like, yourself is pretty pathetic.
Secondly If you want a pvp fleet to teach you pvp. TRIBBLE is here. I personally have spent 20-30 hours training/explaining everything that I can for individuals because I love the fleet, and I hold the sentiment that if somebody asks for my help I will give it, these fleets offering "poor" advice by your account or "not helping" I would wager you know absolutely nothing about any other fleet but your own and they are helping in their own way.
Hence how you've been able to be so abruptly corrected.
On a serious note, if anyone wants a REAL fleet that will help them with whatever they need Pm @thegh0ster for an invite. (if you take the mick and come in asking for creds/provisions/gear from the get go, you're obviously gonna go away empty handed, don't expect us to pander to inventory beggars)
When I first joined TRIBBLE. I had been away for over 18 months and back then was a pure PvE'er. These guys took me in, trained me up. Helped in any way I asked and now I'm a kickass hardcore pvp'er like the rest of 'um and I help others as I was helped. There are dozens of people here who've benefited from our fleet and we've helped put more pvp'ers out there, even when we aren't in pre-mades we still run pugs and have fun.
Something I think most fleets have forgotten about. This thing called "fun" still exists just so you know, you should try it some time.
It might have been a bit harsh on jorfs post and i didnt think he intended it that way, but I do agree with the fact with jorf (I think thats what he means) that there is more misinformation being spread around on the forums, opvp, and person 2 person then there is proper and correct information (Facts, stuff that has been tested with a clear end result)
I think thats what Jorf ment. So yeah I'm backing him up on that particular aspect, it wasnt the right way to bring it perhaps but the point being is that its true.
There is no harm in helping people, but we should all realise that there is just as much misinformation being spread around rather then facts, alot of the time. And Really I also just want this whole PvP community both the old guys and new guys to get more experienced.
But sometimes I just laughing at what people believe versus what has been properly tested by alot of experienced guys double time. The average quality of Pvpers in this game, especially at the moment is just so very mediocre that we all need to stand up against this instead of trying to hide this fact.
"Oh wow this andorian dhc seems to hit harder then that polaron i got same mods etc"
"Mhh phaser procs much more than Plasma"
"Mhh elite shields are always better then maco or khg"
etc etc. ppl always believe this **** instantly while its not even necessarily true or tested, they just take everything for granted. There is much more going on in the bottom layer then ppl realise.
Sure, believe whatever you want, but give people some consequent proof to actually back it up.
I wouldnth ave been the player i am today if it wasnt for my self testing, i kinda stopped taking things for granted and instead testing everything out myself. But im not that selfish to keep all the data for myself either so whenever people ask me about things Im going to tell them my opinion, and whenever possible add a perfectly sound explanation and/or proof of that.
Unfortunately, I don't think that's good advice anymore. For feds, any fleet outside of Sad Pandas, Inner Circle, TSI, or Turkish RP Heroes isn't likely to teach good habits. Jorf STOP Shi'Toking, i enjoy your open honesty though there are few people outside consistant pvp fleets who can give you genuine information and hold well rounded knowledge about the game. Plus there are some people who just dont care about others trying to actually learn and become a better pvper.
Generally i would ask help from the well known pvp fleets in the game and i believe that was the point you were trying to give while giving the names of these well known pvp fleets.
Unfortunately, I don't think that's good advice anymore. For feds, any fleet outside of Sad Pandas, Inner Circle, TSI, or Turkish RP Heroes isn't likely to teach good habits. First off, I disagree with both of you.
Hurlybird, there are many more fleets out there than just the four mentioned that are strong in pvp. It doesnt matter who wins every match, or who is the "best". everything that i have learned as a player has came from many different fleets and players. so i recommend that anyone wanting to learn more about pvp take advice from any pvp fleet. some may have more to offer in certain areas than others, but everyone has their own valueable experience and opinions about pvp.
I recommend players talk to multiple fleets/players about advice/builds. they all have their own opinions about what works, and what doesn't. its up to the person taking the advice to accept it and use it. Of course we all hope that they don't rely too heavily on keybinds or p2w consoles, they first have to see and realize they dont need it before they decide to make that decision.
The first thing one has to remember is that learning pvp takes time. On a positive note, i would also be glad to help if needed, and I also recommend talking to any of these players and any of the other pvp fleets to hear their thoughts and success with ship builds.

On a positive note, i would also be glad to help if needed, and I also recommend talking to any of these players and any of the other pvp fleets to hear their thoughts and success with ship builds.
