Every so often, a thread comes along where you just have to forget how old you are and have fun.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, after all.
I don't think age is even a factor. When you lose the capacity to be silly, that's a very sad thing. Why would anyone concerned with a constant appearance of stoicism play video games anyway?
I'll sell you some weapons from New Romulus. Never fired, only dropped once.
They're showing Romulan ships but that title has me thinking Iconians, a lot of missions in the featured episodes were leading up to some kind of conflict with the Iconians that they will have to deliver at some point, the Iconians might replace the Borg as the big Bad that everyone has to challenge.
God I hope this is going to be worth it, if all this hype turns out to be a couple missions and new ships I'm gonna be bummed.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.
Season 8 will mark the beginning of the Icononian War.
The Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets will end this silly little war after Ambassador Worf kills yet another bad chancellor.
Crypitc will launch a live Invasion of the Alpha Quadrant Space Adventure Zone. Player's ability to defend against the invading iconians will not only affect their rewards, but also the eventual storyline involving the Iconians. (I know, wishful thinking here)
Starfleet will start to be overrun due to the fact that Starfleet could care less about improving beam arrays or forcing their Vice Admiral candidates to take a ship building competence test. (i.e. No rainbow cruisers)
The Iconians will avoid the Klingon Empire like the plague due to their energy drain carriers. (Who wouldn't?) Rather, the Iconians will attempt to quietly manipulate the Gorn as suggested in the Featured Episode "Coliseum". And let's not forget that Cryptic has mentioned several times that the original plan was for Season 7 to start off on the Gorn homeworld.
Task Force Omega will create a joint KDF/Starfleet task force comprised of every Jem'hadar attack ship in the game.
The Iconian "Shadow that dims the stars" will quickly become the explosion that blinded everyone in the galaxy as the Jem'hadar attack ships devour the Iconian fleet like locusts attacking a forest.
The Iconians will fearfully flee the galaxy as those damn phased polaron dual heavy cannon rapid fire IIIs hit them in their failing aft shields.
The galaxy will be saved from the Iconian threat, and the Klingon Empire will join the United Federation of Planets. On to Season 9!

Its geared up as being the biggest content update going and they have given 2 clear indications of the Romulans being playable.
Why am I so sure?
Because frankly if this wasn't a playable Romulan faction then A: They are overhyping it far too much, much more than any of the other 'epic' storylines they have done. And B: The backlash of disappointment would be unbearable. It would most likely be the most disappointing game feature to date since the beginning of games.
Even duke nukem forever would seem acceptable if this isn't the Romulan playable faction.
Personally I don't care either way but the masses in the community want Romulans and here is the carrot. It seems the stick is shortening the closer we get to the update.
You heard it here first.
Also a side note to Cryptic. If this ISN'T a Romulan playable faction I do believe your about to teeter very close to going out of business.

Nobody 'knows' this. Your 2 examples of clear indications are in fact, not. This was not stated here first. It's kind of silly to presume that would put them out of business.

I guess your right and perhaps that was a bit... dramatic.
But everyone here knows that if this isn't a playable faction and is just part of the progressing story then people will be seriously let down by it. It may be a great story but frankly how much buzz does a featured episode set get? They get a peak load time as its being launched, perhaps a day or two of being talked about and then it becomes just another feature.
Also take into account how much they big up the feature events which is less than what they are building up to here.
To me it screams playable Romulans. Anything short of that will be a let down to the people in the community that want Romulans. Personally id rather Cardassians but I doubt they will be playable, going on the basis that they kept Romulan ships out until they release the faction and you can already get the Galor class.

When you expect a lot, you are easily let down. Expect little, and you may be surprised.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class. Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider. Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

I know they stopped saying it, but they did very clearly say a few times that this update was not a Romulan playable faction. That plan may have changed but if it has it has not been stated. The surprise should be if there is such a faction in this update. Expecting it is just setting yourself up for disappointment.

When they have been promising to flesh out klinks for how long and still havn't, its pretty short sighted to assume this is a new playable fraction.
At most... we will see romulans playable as a subfraction of the Federation. Or a neutral subfraction that can join either klink or Fed at a certain level. It will not be an entire new fraction.
Realistically... we will see a featured episode or maybe the first non borg STF, a Romulan STF, and/or other new repeatable romulan mark content for the lfg queue. And playable romulan ships from lock boxes and the lobi store. Maybe a BoP or Mogai as a timed reward from a featured episode
I think just as many klinks would be "let down" by an entire new fraction as people who have put words into cryptics mouth with their reading between the lines and assumptions.
Or even more klinks "let down" actually, because they are an actual existing element of the game, not something some forum poster dreamt up.
Also a featured episode (actual new content) is actually something new for EVERYONE to do. Rather than a selection who would actually level a romunlan (myself included) and do all the same old content over again.
The countdown is not necessarily for a new playable faction. It could be a series of episodes involving Romulan factions controlled by the Tal Shiar exiles. Iota Pavlonis is still old empire Romulan space. We know from the New Romulus Hidden Camera mission that Unseen Ones are already behind the scenes attempting to disrupt D'tan's efforts at a peaceful non xenophobic existence.
This creates an environment that could be used to create a pro and an antagonist Romulan faction and drive new KDF content with both, as the KDF has worked to promote relations with New Romulus but still distrusts the old Romulan empire.
New KDF content was strongly hinted at for the May push. It is unlikely the developers have had time to establish both new KDF content and a whole new playable faction.

Sadly I do not think ot is a RSE faction. That appears to be comming later possibly in season 9.
As to going out of bussiness of it is not a faction, why?
They have not gone out of bussiness yet with a unfinished KDF, why would a not yet
arrived RSE cause thier doom now?
Surely not due to a faulty becuase it could be easy cheated forum poll showed RSE to be even more popular than the federation.
We know that a RSE faction is comming eventually. Its all but been confirmed. Just not in May.
Thats makes me happy though. It means they may be closer to finishing the KDF and burying that hatchet finally.
If not, then we will continue to wait as well.
Because frankly if this wasn't a playable Romulan faction then A: They are overhyping it far too much, much more than any of the other 'epic' storylines they have done.
Not the first time something has been hyped this much, even similarly to this.

At the very least, ole Slamek won't be able to complain anymore that 'it is too bright here'.
Why do you think Slamek joined the Iconians? He knew they planned to dim the stars.
