So, I'm farily new to PvP. Only really started doing it last Sunday. Did some Ker'rat and PvP pugs with my KDF, then switched to my Fed and was doing some friendly PvP among my fleet. I've been paying attention to PvP tactics on the forums and applying it to my PvE play for a while, so even just coming in I wasn't total noob. I actually was the highest damage output in almost every round of the Fleet PvP. I'm not sure if it speaks well of me or ill of my fellow fleeties, but whatever.
My question is, how well do Disruptor Breach/APB/FOMM damage resistance debuff setups work in PvP? This is what my KDF's ship is set up for, and I didn't expect it to really work in PvP at all. I figured, most/all of that is cleared by Tac Team, and most everybody is running TT, especially escorts. To my surprise... it hasn't been doing that badly. In KDF vs. Fed at least, I can do respectable damage and keep up with my teammates. I think I even took top spot once or twice.
So, what's the deal? Does this work better than I thought? Do Feds just suck that bad and not realize how to counter it? Just curious if I should go with my original plan to eventually build a separate setup for PvP, or just stick with this.
The disruptor proc can't be cleared so there is no real issue using them.
There a good weapon type. The proc strength isn't fantastic, but it for sure is a good on hull dmg increase.
Beta I still like... you already know the issue with it so your fine. It only works when tac team is no up. On the + side it has the same cool down as tac team so its not hard to time for a tac team gap... and you will find many cruisers and sci ships only run one copy. So time it best you can. If you can count the time that is up on there tac team and activate your beta and FOMM the second it ends for max uptime.
Another weapon you may want to look into is Polarized Disruptors. You will give up a bit of base dmg and a mod... but you gain a free polaron proc to go with your disruptor proc.
The power cap it puts on people will debuff shields and defense a bit through power reductions to shields and engines... on a few of my builds I run Pol Dis turrets with regular DIS dhc.... I find that to be a good combo.
So you don't mind losing the mod on the rear turrets since they're weak anyway, and you're just shooting for procs? Not a bad idea, I may look into that.
most targets have 66% up time for FOMM's and APB's debugg, and a team mate will useually spot someone if the see it not cleared immediately.
the disruptor proc, i found something interesting about it earlier. it issues a general debuff to knetic and all energy type armor, but it also gives a second stack to disruptor resist debuff. thats generally enough to put someone into negative resist for your disruptor.
the fleet elite disruptor debuff shield resistance too, so when people start getting those, the kdf will have a field day. i doubt theres a more critical stat then shield resistance, something that can finally debuff that will be amazing.

Sssssshhhhh...

im still shocked they would add such a weapons proc, another blow to everything that cant speed tank. not only are escorts as good of tanks as cruisers if they can keep moving and staying above or below attackers, they will soon be exponentially greater once fed tanks get shot up by these. at the very least, it will more then break even with the thrice damned elite shields

Honestly putting that on a passive proc is ridiculous.
Another future nail in the coffin of FvK and another bouquet of flowers on the grave of KvK.

People who think that Escorts tank like Cruisers are insane... I guess maybe I'm doing it wrong but I've never tanked in an Escort like I do in a Cruiser without external buffs to my shield resistance/regen.
By adding a shield resistance debuff to weapons, it will only make my life even worse. It will not affect Cruisers or Sci as much as it affects Escorts.
Maybe this is why some people seem to just plow through my shields... some overpowered procs... Overpowered procs, I'm very tired of them... we had the SNB style doff proc, the shield distribution doff proc, now we have placate procs and shield resist debuff procs.... Procs and RNG are not conducive to a skill-based game play.
I am constantly out-classed by better equipped Escorts, this change would just make it worse ;-) Not good for the PUG player who doesn't get heals from their teammates. I don't think that this is the answer to countering over-whelming shield resists/regen... those numbers need to be tackled directly.
For instance, a player getting buffs/heals is nigh-invulnerable unless SNB'd... the shield resist debuff proc will not help this very much because that player is receiving enough shield resist to put them to their cap any way, whereas a player who is only self-buffing, while already fragile, becomes even more paper thanks to another lame proc... my 2 cents.

Yes. Yes you are. But to your credit they don't tank like cruisers at all. Perhaps there is some confusion over the use of the word tank. When someone says "speed tank" it means they are pumping up defense to the point where shots miss them often. You can get yourself into the range of being missed 55% of the time.

That's significant.
Honestly, I don't think that I am doing it wrong.
I know what speed tanking is, although I am missing one trait which I will re-trait when I can.
It's that certain ships are equipped with very exclusive/overpowered gear... in the case of the bug ship that's on top of already overpowered impulse and turning...
My main point is that RNG and equipment gaps make for a lackluster PVP experience when it comes to competitive play. Yet, this is the type of game play that STO has when it comes to PVP, so it is what it is.

Got them already, they work great, at first I wasn't sure if it was worth giving up weapons with more acc/crit mods for it, but seems like it is, at least just the turrets anyway.

indeed. tanking in a cruiser is just out healing damage, escorts mostly just avoid it.
escort tanking
step 1. gotta go fast, receiving incoming fire? its 25/50/100/25 time.
it doesn't mater what your doing, break off you attack and go full throttle, discontinue your backpedaling 4 DHC harassment. or adopt a weapons load out that needs 5 well timed seconds to kill, and be in fast mode whenever you arent attacking like that
step 2. locate incoming spike damage, and fly toward it, but go above or below it.
nothing can protect you from narraow arc weapons like the Z axis. save things like TT, evasive and APO only when you need it. if theres lots of sci around, i hope you got ET to shake off VM. at this point stopping is death
step 3. laugh at everyone shooting you. just keep cycling your heals, you can keep this up forever
if you notice the rest of your team has died, its time to GTFO though, you can indefinitely tank 3 people this way, unless they have a trick to stop your movement. a whole team will overpower you of course
I'm doing it wrong but I've never tanked in an Escort like I do in a Cruiser without external buffs to my shield resistance/regen.
BECAUSE THAT'S NOT HOW IT'S DONE............
Maybe this is why some people seem to just plow through my shields...
BECAUSE YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG..........YOU DON'T SPEED TANK WITH SHIELDS
my 2 cents ........
Keep the change bub, and here's a tip
When YOU seem to not be able to do something that others can, and others that can are explaining it to you YOU'RE the one having the problem. Good luck with that.
