Opinions on ships in PvP

Hi STO community,

The Andorian Escort. A joke or what?

I'll start off with my personal opinion. I finally wanted to face off against this ship in PvP hoping to run into a couple dozen over-zealous pilots thinking their forward firing arc was something to be feared.

Needless to say, I beat nearly all the Andorian escorts I came across like an abused stepchild. Pretty sad, all literally a 'glass cannon' as many people have been saying. I only came across one who could tank my DHC's (I use a JHAS) maybe a couple seconds longer than everyone else before I made him/her bite the big one. So far, in my opinion, I've noticed it perform poorly for PvP. Whoever brings one against my team in PvP is asking for a severe beatdown as you stick out like a sore thumb, and I usually do the target calling, so you'll have plenty of DHCs, Beams, and torpedoes on you in a few seconds :D

Please, STO community, feel free to lay down your own opinion on this topic, dsnt matter HOW extremely mean or incredibly nice you are, everything you can throw is welcome :)

What you guys think of the Andorian Escort line in PvP?

I've met a few that were pretty legit vs. my fleet defiant. Made for some grueling and fun duels.

Properly built I think it could be a great hit and run ship. "Boom and zoom" if you will. Mostly I think players just need to rethink their tactics when it comes to how they engage and when they need to disengage.

I agree w/this. I don't see how the Sci Varient can be called a glass cannon, if there was a reset to over a year ago and people had to fly the Raiders of that time vs pre Season 5 et al nerfs to Sci Debuffs and buffs to ship's defenses would know what a glass cannon felt like. Being more fragile doesn't = a glass cannon.

I have gotten lots of kills on the Kumari with my tac in a B'rel transphasic torp boat, and my eng in a Karfi drain build. It has been very easy to take down, and I never die to them in kerrat or in pvp queue. Most don't even bother getting in range of the drain karfi when they see it in kerrat. Don't hesitate to use any and all cheese against it when you see it, nothing is as cheesy as using a 5 fore weapon ship against people that don't have one.

these andorian escorts are the most dangerous escort ever, to none escorts. vs the bug, they are going to get out dueled because they are going to have less on target up time with the base 16 turn rate they have. so with that disadvantage vs at least the bug, its pilot skill that will make the difference on weather or not the andorian escort is much of a threat.

an andorian escort vs anything that cant turn well, doesn't have APO, and cant speed tank at all and just has to take it on the chin and out heal damage, the andorian ship should be a nightmare. anything that can outmaneuver the andorian ship, and if the andorian ship is flown by an pilot of inferior skill, well you will just defeat it like anything else.

Just been hitting the pug pvp queues on my Fed sci, in various vessels, and I must say: even with 5-fore weapon escorts, feds seem UP :p I ended up out-performing a couple of Kumari's in my Wells, getting more points in and way less deaths.

I mostly play KDF, and whenever I queue up there I am very obviously still in training. I run various characters with various ships, and compared to my teams I generally score mediocre. Not bad, definitely get my kills, but got a long way to go still before I consistently hit top 3. Now, on my Fed, which I hardly use anymore, I score top in both damage and healing in nearly all matches I tried. That's on a sci, running sci ships and cruisers. (got our asses whipped in almost all of these matches, I might add)

Clearly, that's all anectdotal, and I sometimes get steamrolled on my kdf's vs fed groups, but I suspect that general pug queue play doesn't really give any clear info on the Kumari's (or any ship's) alleged overpoweredness.

    Something to keep in mind.

Sorry but the superscort with ridiculous base stats is not playing on the same lvl as other fleet escorts.
The engineer version of the Kumari is actually pretty good, with very high firepower and average turnrate and staying power.

The shields on the Kumari's are pretty thin, and healing still feels sub-par compared to my Fleet Defiant, Fleet Advanced, Mobius, and Breen warship.

JH Bugs are OP anyway, so Kumari's didn't stand much of a chance :)

Still, I'm trying to make a Charal work just for giggles...

This is my take on ships in PVP: Every ship when used properly can be effective.

That is all, nothing more to see here.

    ^^^ What He Said. ^^^

PvP comes down to 90% player skill, 9% builds, 0.9% career, and whatever's left is the advantage of having an Andorian or a Bugboat or a Fleet Defiant or whatever.

If I'm better than you, I will most likely kill you. If you're better than me, then you will probably kill me, no matter what ships we're driving.

no escort (even a jhas) and no cruiser or carrier can survive such a treatment for a "long" time, without healing from teammates.
when the andorian escort gets the needed support, it can destroy its targets even faster, than a jhas.

i am still testing the andorian escort. my current impression is, that endurance and turn rate are only slightly worse, in comparison to a jhas. on the other hand the andorian escort has the significant better damage output.
imo it is not possible to judge, whether the jhas or the andorian escort is the superior escort. it only depends on the players piloting skill and style

The tac version dies too fast without support. The eng version is a decent escort, but turns poorly. Defiants and (of course!) bug ships are problems.

I'll be curious to see if the changes on Tribble make any of the special consoles worth anything.

(Nerf Bug ship turn rates now! kthxbye)

When I have a wingman (as has been noted) I am really liking the sci version of the Smurf. Had a lot of fun late nights last weekend in it with a buddy. Even alone, I can last a while, but against bug, bop, saber and defiant jocks, I really need to be on my game.
