HE vs AtS on escorts

On ships that can slot an ensign engineer, Ill put 2 EPS and and AtS which allows the lt sci to use tractor beam and TSS II. Otherwise its EPS 1 and 2 and HE I, TSS II.

What are your opinions? HE clears a lot of junk, but the timer is long. On the other hand, AtS can be kept up most of the time. Combined with attack patterns, thats +50ish armor.

Here's what you do. You get TWO Boff's. You do that because you can. Then, when you're playing vs someone that's overwhelming you with warp plasma holds, you use the HE. If not, you stick with your AtS. And you're a happy guy. Or girl. Or indeterminate Alien Lifeform.

    Cheers!

So yeah, I looked at all six of my ships...and er, I run some version of both on all of them. Quirky, eh?

It's pretty much what Thissler said depending on your actual available BOFF layout, space for BOFFs, etc, etc. If that En is a Uni, you can easily six BOFF switcheroo it.

So you would go with an rsp and eps1 over eps 1 and 2?

on a ship with only an LT eng? you ALMOST could, if you sloted 3 purple damage control doffs to give 1 EPtS the chance to act like 2

On my escort, I usually do none of the above, instead slotting TSS 2 & Sci Team 1 for that additional SNB clear. If I need hazards, that's what the sci ships are for. ;)
