Hi Captains!

I have quick update for you all regarding the 2012 Limited-Time Holiday Fleet Project (Breen Warship starbase ornament).

===UPDATE! (02/13/2013 @ 1:45PM) From the recent Tribble patch notes:===
Thanks to your feedback, we have made a few more changes on how the cancelation of this project will work. Here are the release notes from Tribble:
General:
  • The Winter 2012 Fleet Project can now be cancelled.
    • Only a Fleet Leader will be able to cancel this project.
    • This permission cannot be delegated to members of lower ranks.
    • Any items donated toward the completion of the project will be lost and not refunded.
    • Any Fleet Credit earned by donating to this project is kept.

On the morning of Thursday, February 14th, we will be removing the project from fleet's who have slotted it but have not completed it yet. There will be no refund of holiday commodities that have been contributed thus far, but you will keep any fleet credits you've earned for contributing towards the project. If your fleet would like to earn the ornament, please ensure you complete it before this time (just about a week from now) -- please also ensure that the countdown is complete before that morning (i.e. start the project the night before). If you need more commodities to complete the project, visit the exchange as there are many listed for sale.

Any fleet that has completed the project before server maintenance on Thursday, February 14th, will be unaffected.

Thanks, and we'll see you in-game!

Cheers,

Brandon =/\=

I'm not sure how? This is just removing the project so that fleets are not stuck with it who can not complete it. The exchange is now the only way to get these commodities (unless fellow fleet mates have unopened commodity bundles, or are keeping extra in their banks). The project was always listed as a "limited-time" and at least one dev posted that we'd offer a solution to remove it if you were not able to finish it so you were not stuck with it :) And we're giving notice if you'd like to actually finish it.

Making removing the project optional might be a better approach.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

Lets not get too carried away here...

It's ONLY the 2012 Bauble Fleet Project that's being effected.

Why not just allow fleet leaders to dismiss it if they wish instead of forcing the choice on everyone?

Indeed, as a now missing post would seem to prove my point...

As stated above, a much wiser move would have been to allow the Fleets to decide whether to continue or not...

    Heavy-handed dealings always... end badly.

This is not Offering a Solution...

This is detrimentally removing it with out so much as a how-do-you-do.

I have nothing at stake here as my one man fleet never even considered this project...

But even I can see how this is going to bring down loads of hard feelings upon your already shaky relationship with a portion of the player base.

The date of this probably should have been released a while ago at this point any solo fleet who's member has been working on this gradually as he or she can afford it will pretty much lose out. Instead a project that costs say 1 fleet mark should have been made available that will remove the breen projects when completed or a contact could have been placed on the Fleet base to do so that only a fleet leader can interact with.

    My suggestion...

Offer something really, really great to the player base on Valentines Day, so as to minimize the fallout from those folks who don't see this thread till it's too late.

I can't speak for the others, but I was given the impression that if the project wasn't completed by the time the winter event was over, the remaining balance of incomplete materials would be converted to dilithium and the project could be finished that way. My fleet finished it last week, thankfully, but I really feel sorry for the people who have spent time and quite possibly Lobi (aka, real money) into gathering the resources for this are having their efforts wiped away. And no, fleet credits are not a satisfactory means of compensation when real money is potentially involved.

I seriously hope you guys rethink this decision.

Please, and I think that most of the fleet agrees, make this ornament hide on default!

This, so much this. It's such an eyesore.

I guess this means we are getting a new project on the 14th then. Wonder what that will be?

why not just change the required inputs like you did with the chef and bartender?

this doesn't affect my fleets but man I would be mad and it sets a bad precedent.

and seriously? search the exchange? you guys fix that thing yet? last time i checked you couldn't even properly find 2 of the six holiday items

Unlike the super annoying tribbles which ruins any serious meeting at the Starbase that 2012 project at least stays switched off if switched off (and is by default less annoying that all these constant respawning supersized ratpiles) /grumpy mode

Being able to cancel projects would be a better choice in the long run. Seeing as the tech could be applied to Starbases, Embassies, and Reputation. Much better than driving prices on the exchange up

sorry but what a dumb reply , my own fleet had a lot of members leave for bigger fleets .

so we should suffer for this ? (although i am not yet a solo fleet)

Not sure about the price, but you can get them from the exchange. There is also the lobi store that sells a pack that gives them.

I don't relish the idea of paying exorbant prices on the exchange. As for the Lobi Store, I have not seen those packs.

Common sense is lacking in this move Brandon. Consider this...

Most people who have not completed this project are likely smaller fleets that have fewer members to provide resources.

Thus, those providing the resources for any projects are likely to have a lot of fleet credits without this holiday event, possibly more than they know what to do with. They didn't start the project because they needed fleet credits, they started it because they wanted the cool project.

As stated, before by posting this you've made an already small supply of winter commodities in even more demand than they were before by saying, "Hurry up or we'll scrap the whole thing!"

To be honest, in my small little fleet I was saddened that we didn't finish it during the Christmas event, but I figured oh well it'll get finished quickly next winter. As for possible specialty missions that we'd miss out on, no big deal Cryptic said they'll offer those over again and again. And my fleet is not big enough to need the filler projects that allow large fleets to get more fleet credits opportunities to their fleet members.

By default this should be left alone, if you want to offer help to fleets that no longer wish to keep this project active fine then do so. But do not assUme you are helping my fleet by removing this project, it is well over half way completed and fleet credits are worthless to me at this point.

Haven't really paid attention to the market recently. As someone who might possibly have a few hundred ornaments sitting in their bank, what would be a fair price to offer to fleets at this point? ;)

Both the tribble and the holiday projects are giant failures. The fleets who haven't finished this yet are getting a blessing in disguise, they might think they want this ornament but they really don't. It is a giant revolting spinning globe in the centre of the base with a horribly un-star trek 2012 written on it. It would have been fine had it been like a breen tactical model in the holodeck or something

Nobody keeps their Christmas tree up all year, not sure why Cryptic thinks we wanted to.
