from Gamersbook interview

[DSTAHL] While Crafting currently plays a minor role in the game, we have big plans for how Crafting can be incorporated into future customization for Starships and Starbases. One of the updates we have planned in the future will incorporate Crafting into ship design and open up an entirely new avenue for specialization and customization.

[GB] Space combat is definitely one of the strongest game features, any plans for further improvement?

[DSTAHL] With the constant flow of new ships coming out of the shipyards, our next major update to ships will be to incorporate warp core design into how a ship performs in combat and what types of power it can bring to a fight.

[GB] Though space combat is well done, overall PVP is not in the state you would want it to be. What plans do you have for PVP in the future? Maybe new fun modes, better rewards?

[DSTAHL] We are planning to introduce a PvP Reputation along with more structured PvP events that will finally provide a much needed boost to this area of the game. We are collaborating with some of the great PvP designs on Neverwinter to rewrite the future for PvP in STO.

From Games Radar
GR: What kind of plans do you have lined up for future Seasons and Episodes? What can Tasha Yar fans expect?
DS: We are going to continue to expand on the events that have transpired in both the Romulan and Omega Fleet reputations by advancing the storyline forward for the game. We will delve deeper into how the Iconians have been manipulating the galaxy and set the stage for how it will impact the existing war between the Federation and the Klingon Empire.

A big question to be answered is what happened to Empress Sela at the end of ?Cutting the Cord? and how will this impact politics in the Beta Quadrant. If you?re a Tasha Yar fan, then you?ll also want to check out our Three-year Anniversary celebration for a few surprises.

From Massivly
You've stated that you thought that the upcoming Season Eight release would be "big" for the Klingon faction. Do you have anything you can add to that?

We've stopped calling it a season for starters. When we look at all the time and energy being put into this next update, it feels like it's shaping into something much larger. While we haven't shared specifics yet, we will be detailing our plans for the Klingon faction in the coming months.

That's all stuff he's lied about in the past. There was a time when the company was in a work stoppage, and they had no cups in the kitchen and nothing was being created because they were in a long drawn out process of being sold. That entire time he was on record as stating all of those things he's stating above.

There's just no record of trust when he talks about KDF and the development team.

Got nothing to lose waitiing to see what happens.

I must admit it sounds hopeful.

Still if even the new KDF players are complaining like old school, Cryptic may have quite the hurdle this year with what ever they may do or not do. I hope its good.
    If not, meh.

Since we got a new ST movie coming out soon, they got a chance to keep the new blood which will flock in... keeping them happy and here will be another thing entirely.

Like many KDF players, am not holding my breath, waiting to see if all we been wanting for these past few years, makes it into STO or not.

The door is always there and I can guarantee that I won't let it hit me on the TRIBBLE on the way out if things are not to my liking. No threats, just a promise for swift, decisive action on my part as a consumer and gamer.

Life is too short for me to stress out on a videogame. Will just mosey on to greener pastures and have fun elsewhere. Maybe I can find the time to properly develop that drinking problem I always wanted.

All I know is that if STO introduces a new playable faction before KDF gets the same level of mission content that Feds got at launch, then there will be a lot of ticked off KDF players. IMO Patrol Missions can be ignored since most of them are about as entertaining as exploration missions. Just have good KDF story content.

Warp core design sounds to me like another major push into monetizing pay to win.

    Think about it.

All existing ships have standard warp cores. The performing warp cores become one of the lockbox possible drops. This is already planned and in the works for sure.

oh hai! Want bettah warp core? yes? buy mastah key! mastah key open box. you have chance to win wap core! any lo'kbox have wap core! you buy mastah key! you ship suck no more!

It does sound hopeful but then again they have been saying much the same about the KDF since launch and nothing has changed so far.

Given that this is the first time in 3 years that the resources have been available for something as big as finishing the kdf the chances are good.

But then again there are those who are never happy with anything(and they tend to let you know about more often and with a higher volume), so will cryptic ever be able to do enough in the eyes of these people?

Baring something truely aweful happening I plan to applaud any major content release regardless of whats actualy added. Because this could be blizzard, and we could be paying throuh the nose for the privlage of being ignored.

All the kdf need is a tutorial. That is it. And they can put the level cap to 1.
With the new fe series and adventure zones you don't need a lot of different episodes
Should I start posting again after all this time?

I've just convinced myself that season 8 would bring absolutely nothing to the KDF, except the same old shared content stuff.
While we haven't shared specifics yet, we will be detailing our plans for the Klingon faction in the coming months.

"In the coming months" means "not likely to happen soon" in Cryptic's language. When it's soon it's soon but here it's just wishes and thoughts for season 9 or more.

Dstahl: The KDF are getting some love in Season 8 but I can?t discuss the scope of it yet. As we get closer to the release, more news and specifics will be released along with some previews of what we have been working on. I personally believe that Season 8 will be a positive release for the KDF.

Quote from the last ask Cryptic.

When something is about to be released, it's always "awesome", "great improvements", "players will love it" and so on. When it's about to be released, Dan Stahl is always very enthousiastic. Here it's just "a positive release for the KDF". Which means there will be very little unique stuff for the faction.

Here is an example of what i'm saying:
While I can?t spoil any of the details on what exactly is coming, it is exciting to come to work every day knowing that we are building some great new experiences for STO in 2013 that will give fans some of the things they?ve been wanting for a long time (including myself!). It is a wonderful time to be working on STO, and while I?ve always been excited about our potential, it is great to see some of our efforts start to pay off. The game is growing and that is an exciting place to be for an MMO

    --
Rest assured that we are working on some new uniforms for the KDF side in Season 8 that are similar to the Mercenary outfits because not all KDF players want to wear spiky boots and shoulder pads.

Quote from the last ask Cryptic.

This is the only certitude we have for the KDF. A new reputation and probably new costumes as perks.

It all sounds great...but like many others have stated...Stahl has made these promises before, and each time we hear "the next season is the season for KDF" he reneges on the promise, and what usually happens is that the KDF get one or two ships, some costume options that may or may not work, while the Feds will get a new race, new missions, and roughly double the number of vessels provided for the KDF.

But...I do feel a glimmer of hope. The rhetoric this time around is much, much stronger...and there are indications that a new faction may be coming...and they have stated repeatedly that a new faction will not come until the KDF reach a more playable state.

In terms of new ships...some more tactical escorts and destroyers would be nice...but I hope they provide one or two real sci ships as well....
