Coming back after a long break. (at least pre-reputation, maybe longer) Trying to catch up on many changes.
PvP was almost a joke when I left, with Pre-mades mercilessly stomping pugs, flinging every insult along the way. Console spam was the norm and supposedly expected gameplay. If you weren't flying an escort, you were a zombie-build of some sort.
Has the situation improved, or is it still the same festering pit of hate it was?

Dedicated, masochistic, self-loathing, whatever you want to call it.
"Cryptic Studio’s Jack Emmert (2010): Microtransactions are the biggest bunch of nonsense. I like paying one fee and not worrying about it – like my cellphone. The world’s biggest MMO isn’t item based, even though the black market item GDP is bigger than Russia … microtransactions make me want to die.”
The channel usually runs pugmades every day or so. They are a good way to get into the game and to make it less frustrating when you face up against a proper premade.
And as for the learning curve, there are lot of people here in the forums that can answer most of your questions. You can also ask in OPvP, but honestly you get more attention here.

Hmm,
pugstomping - yep, still around. Don't really hear insults though, most are fairly civil these days. I also find that it's not as prevalent as most seem to think it is, though it could just be my timezone.
Console spam - still there, may have gotten a tad worse. Pets are more of a problem now.
Escorts/Zombie builds - not so much. Build diversity is a little better with the destroyers available now, and Sci debuff builds aren't really that rare.
Disclaimer: Based on pugging experience. I'm not in a PvP fleet, and I don't hook up with pugmades very often either.
All that and then add the fact they whine about nerfing everything because they can't get that easy kill no more with all the cool stuff Cryptic has added because they claim its "OP" in PvP when in reality, its not. They just don't want to change their tactics and adapt to the ever evolving state of the game. They want to remain in the past...
Nah you aren't missing much in PvP. Same old pre-mades, same old cheese and whine. They say they are helpful and want to teach you, but really, don't waste your time. They just want to add more fuel to the fire with Cryptic is all...

That was a little rude...but considering your signature, hardly surprising.

pvp is still ****
too many spam consoles like no one has ever seen before!
there are so many debuffs on you sometimes and you don't even know what exactly is debuffing you^^
and ye don't expect things to change...
cryptic adding broken or unbalanced things...people QQ and start whining....same old story

lol.
PvEers like you have never adapted to anything in the game in their lives.
I'd love for Cryptic to add PvP mechanics to the PvE part of the game, just to see PvEers like you cry about how unfair it is to learn how to play. :P
And yes, PvPers are very helpful and friendly compared to most.
You only need to not act like a douchenozzle, and be willing to learn.

Have you considered the PVP bootcamp? It's great for all levels of gameplay, even levels as basic as you.

Premades stomping PUGs? That's going to happen in pretty much any game. Cryptic has not created any non-team queue mechanic. There are PUGmades formed in OPvP, which imho offer more than you'd get out of a TradePUG.
Insults? Doesn't matter if it's PvP or PvE, there are going to be players that fling insults...so this is nothing specific to PvP by any means.
Console Spam? Cheese...while it's what you're likely to find in random queues and Ker'rat (whether from Premades or PUGs) - there are those that are against the cheesefest. Cheese-free events are being scheduled more and more. Going back to the insults thing, it can definitely get nasty between the two crowds.
Escorts? Well, this is Star Trek Online - so the ship type seen the least in over 40 years of Star Trek is obviously the main player.../cough.
Festering Pit of Hate? Well, outside some of those Cheese vs. No Cheese discussions - the main hate comes from PvE players that need the crutch of various broken mechanics. They despise that by it's very nature, PvP allows for feedback and testing on such mechanics. NPCs aren't going to create support tickets if something does not appear to be working...and well, there are far too many PvE players that would rather exploit something than report it as well. There are also far too many PvP players that would rather their fellows not report things either, but it's a little more difficult there - because the NPCs can't (not a case of won't) - and players don't want that TRIBBLE used against them, so they're unlikely not to do so. Doesn't mean some won't use it while it's out there. Course, that gets back to the Cheese arguments.
TLDR for that last mini-wall of text? Festering Pit of Hate? People are people. /shrug
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
PvEers like you have never adapted to anything in the game in their lives.
that one made me laugh ...since the first QQ is ALWAYS coming from organized pvp when there is something new or "OP"...people crying over and over about broken or unbalanced skills....
calling it cheese...
but using the so called cheese as well^^
and if you're beating the **** out of some orgpvp guys in an arena match.......
10 seconds after the match you'll see a big QQ fest incomin in orgpvp...
But who are the smart people? The PvEers never complaining because they fight against dumb targets or the PvPers who always try to preserve a little bit of gameplay balance because they fight against real players?:P
Thing is...that's a stereotype.
Sure, there are definitely the PvE players that are going to keep quiet. There are also the PvE players that will be honest about it and say something.
Likewise, there are definitely the PvP players that are going to speak up. There are also the PvP players that will be dishonest about it and say nothing.
It has little to do with whether the person PvE's or PvP's... it's the person.
anyways virusdancer is right....
i don't get it why there is always the PvP vs PvE fight.
there are really good PvE players out there....who for example have beaten NoWin scenario several times...
the problem is...cryptic mostly fixes or changes stuff when there is something not working correctly in pve.
the list of abilities which are working nicely in PvE but are horrible for PvP is long.

Aside from a few morons and questionable fleets, most don't use "cheese."
And generally we complain, because we actually enjoy a playing field that isn't marred by annoying trash.
Naturally, PvEers don't care about these things, because the NPCs don't care whether or not you're using consoles against them.
.

No one here goes out of their way to hunt after PvEers.
That guy who I responded to initially has had his TRIBBLE on fire ever since the topic of nerfs to Tric mines came about.
He was the one who decided to trash PvPers, so I responded in kind. And it isn't the first time he's done it either.
Look at his stupid sig for evidence that he's not well. He honestly believes that balance passes that have no relevance in PvE, because the content is so trivial, are ruining it.
It is and will always be for the dedicated. Trends and tactics change all the time so it's not something you can do casually as you need to keep up. You might be able to enter and win first time, in which case good for you, but most players new to PvP (especially space, but ground too) will have their rear ends handed to them on a plate on a regular basis (this includes me) until they get used the enemy actually being an intelligent being, using and countering powers and outmanoeuvering them, etc. Just look at the mass of complaints that Hive Space needs a nerf because the queen does exactly that. PvE using powers? Surely not... NERF!!!
I stumbled into PvP a few months after I started STO, after boredom set in. It was far from perfect but I don't see how I could have gotten into and stuck with PvP in it's current state. In fact, I find it easier and easier to go weeks at a time without even queuing up at this point.

It's terrible but easy, and these Borg are way cooler than the mess STO and Voyager left us.
May not actually be "way" cooler or even "slightly" cooler.
So my comp broke down, how bad is the new romulan cloak power?
It's not too bad. It boosts all sci skills by 100 for 8 seconds, and for the last 5 seconds it also cloaks you. You can still fire weapons and such freely during that point.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Thanks man, I was really worried it would make everything start like kvk matches, thankfully it justs seems like more of a get out of binds/planned ahead escapes bit, good news.
