An Idea for a new class of BOP - K'Vort Heavy BOP class


An unconventional idea for a new class of Bird of Prey using 3 variants availible individually or via bundle from the c-store. These are my ideas of what the Klingon Intelligence service could/would do to upgrade their capabilities. Although the same layout could be applied to a new Ferasan or Lethean ship design(hint,hint). Primarily reconassince ships but with additional armor and weaponary as fitting a deep recon ship that may be operating on its own or providing electronic intelligence via the sci version, operations support from the eng version, and a fast attack ship for the Tac version.

    considering the BoPs all use universal boff stations I don't see the point of this besides you wanting a BoP with less/more console slots and toys depending on variant.


    I'd prefer a new 'Heavy' Bird of Prey variant. A replacement for the aging B'rel platform.


    Rather than an enhanced cloaking device, this one would have a phase cloak. When phase cloaked it cannot receive damage. Phase cloak operates like the enhanced cloak but not as good. Rather than 3 seconds to auto-recloak it takes 5 seconds.

    Phase cloak enables torpedoes to be fired while remaining cloaked, energy weapons will decloak the BoP for 5 seconds. Only active external effects that disrupt cloak will bring it out of phase and apply the timer to re-cloak of 15 seconds-ish.

    HOWEVER, when under phase cloak the ship receives timer penalties... all 'skillpoints' spent on Boffs that speed up their timers are nullified. Ergo, torpedo high yield takes a full minute to re-load rather than 30 seconds.

    The BoP is also partially visible (aka stealth detected) for 8 seconds after firing torpedoes but it can't be locked on to. The visibility is enough to allow ships with PBAOE or other cloak-revealing abilities to close in and pull the ship back into phase.


    Have this BoP have a console: Eye of Kahless

    This console is similar to the new ability from jemhadar lockbox but with a twist: rather than the more you shoot a target the higher the chance weapon hits will disable a subsystem it will be that critical hits scored on a target have a good chance of disabling engines, aux or weapons (not shields).

    5 fore weapon
    1 aft weapon

    Weak shields hp
    Raptor like hull hp
    BoP-worthy speed.
    Turn rate between BoP and Raptor but with higher inertia (sliding attacks more frequent).

    Visual wise I'd make it a cross between the B'rel, the Heghta and a Peghqu raptor.

    Hegtha hull (body), b'rel and heghta wing choices and pehqu 'nose' section and overall ship size.

    When phase cloaked it cannot receive damage?

    so let me see can't take damage under cloak but can fire energy weapons and torpedoes from the same cloak plus a 14 universal boff slot ship which is 2 more than any ship in game! :eek:

    I think you are expectations are a bit high sir, maybe just a bit ;)

    Not so much.

    Maybe if you were saying "Here's some new ships with battlecloak I'd like to see."

    Go tool around in the heavy destroyer for a bit. See they made one already for you!

    Battle Cloak, all uni boffs, little bitty hull, all make for a BoP. The other stuff really doesn't. Although I'd really like an all universal console slots bop, and just add in a five per type console limit on consoles. So if i want 5 engi consoles on my 9 console BoP I could have it. Just saying. I really like high shield power on my BoPs.

    BoP's. Stick and move. Not ships that slug it out. My gut feeling is to think that you'll say that's just a matter of opinion. Oh well. If it walks like a duck.....

    The idea of the thread was not a simple Hegh'ta, B'rel remake have those fly those, same with the heavy destroyer :), but to have Bop/Escort/Destroyer hybrid available created as a new ship design (Ferasan and Lethean style comes to mind primarily) that is unique in its own way (exterior style, potential custom bridge pack, etc) yet still pretty customizable like the vet ship or a bop for a variety of playstyles. The b'rel is still one of my favorite ships after a year of playing STO, but if the devs are ever going to attract new players to the KDF faction (new original ship designs, player costume options, and more unique KDF story content). would be a good start, hopefully season 8 will give us new shinies to play with and hopefully most of it wont be locked up in single character lockbox fashion.
    As someone once said" I have a dream....." maybe a little more fleshing out of the KDF member species's idea of ship design by the devs could inspire some people to give KDF a try. :D
