If you start buffing in side 10km range.. I CAN hear you..

Please try to buff your attack run out side that range if you are looking to catch me by surprise?

And remember, Attack Pattern Alpha, Go down fighting, and Tactical Fleet last 30+ seconds.. Hearing those going off automatically tells me.. Oh.. I better have Tac team/FBP/RSP ready to go..

Thank you, and have a fun death.

~Web Death

PS: I hate you all. ;)

Frankly, I think the only sound advice that one can give new players at this time is to stay away from PVP in STO.

Not everyone knows what those sounds are, seems like most people dont notice me buff.

Also for people that do notice it you can throw them off by using a few buffs and not decloaking immediatley, you can see if they pop fbp or rsp and just stay cloaked and get them to waste it then decloak after.

Yeah, defensive CDs are usually longer than offensive ones so it's not as bad as you think. Plus it helps you to figure out who's 'awake' and who's not.

You can 'hear' a lot more than just those skills powering up. With a good pair of headphones and some maneuvering, you can even get a range/direction estimate (the 3D/Z-aspect is missing though, no matter how 'high'/'low' the target is, it appears to on the same plane).

And there are some smart people out there. Once, I SJ'ed 'behind' an uncloaking BOP only to find he was actually facing 180 from me, so as to point his guns at my 'new' position. Heh, can't fool em all, all the time, can you?

There are quite a few deadzones as well. Areas where there is no sound - it's dead silent. There are also various areas where if you rotate your camera at a certain angle, it goes silent as well. It's as if the listener is not attached to the ship - and - nor actually are the generators.

There was a broken KDF mission where you could see what appeared to be evidence of this...

skillplay- deek buff. u thought i was comin but i just started the 'countdown'

burning all ur buffs like a noob first beep u hear is fail.

save tac team till last second: live

oh and youll alredy know im there prebeep cus youll be vm n cron torp proced.

anyway with delay activate powers (bo, hy) and long duration tac buffs hot first (gdf, apa) ill have a 30 second window to unload at full strike potential after the first beep clues you in.

    so the beeps aint everything

I just find it silly that more people don't know this information.. I'm even wondering if it's on the PVP Boot Camp doctrine. But hey, it's not like this hasn't been around since game launch right? :P

I can't even imagine hearing buffs. I was in a 5v5 and the sheer amount of spam noise from plasma torpedoes, pets shooting, players shooting, etc was so god damn loud that it drowned out everything from "Shields have failed!" to my chums on team speak. And I had the volume down to 20%ish! :|

Hearing cloakers superbuff in ground is a snap though, cause there isn't 200+ scorpion fighters per person whipping around and blowing your eardrums out.

Some people don't know this, other play without sound... for the reason mentioned above. STO will pass, your hearing damaged by spam will not return ;)

You will never hear the Marmot cause marmots wear sneakerz!!!

Although that prebuffing trick seems like a neat thing to pick up. Is that in boot camp or no, cause I think my invite to that is still good.

with APO, you sorta have no excuse to buff that close, it will close the gap in 2 seconds. its a bit more tricky when im in something like my ktinga though, but i tend to wait till the battle field is plenty noisy before triggering buffs

Yeah, I hate that. I mean, I get that this is based on a show where the viewer "hears" things happening in exterior shots, but there's no sound in space! Me pushing buttons on my bridge should not tip off my opponent!

That's what I do with my Fed. I am never the one to strike first (unless it's a 1 on 1). I always wait for everyone else to buff and engage each other before I attack.

On my KDF, I don't really care. I fly a B'rel torpedo boat and try to sit at least 7km away before I buff and launch my attack.

Shhh, let them figure this out on their own. I don't know about anyone else but I enjoy someone decloaking and wasting all their buffs.

Dunno my self. I don't ever find my self free or available to take part in the Boot camp. (I know I could probably still learn a thing or two) But you might want to check and find out. :)
