Ok been away for a while and came back today and saw I had a nice little nest egg awaiting me (3000 Zen!) So it is time to go shopping! I am a Vice Admiral so I want a new ship. I am considering the Dreadnought, Vesta Engineer or the Odyssey Engineer ships. Which, out of those three, is the best buy? (All three cost same, 2,500)

Vesta or Oddy, I'd buy the rest of the Zen and get the pack to be honest. You get 3 ships for 5000 Zen and the consoles have a bonus if you have all the from each version on 1 ship (plus 2500 each or 5000 for 3). If you do not want to put money into the game you can farm dill for the extra Zen or have another 2 months waiting / time off.
I like the Gal X, but only a few seem to like it. If you like the normal Gal and plan on using the X as a normal Gal then it is fine but if it is the main lance your after, do not get your hopes up, it misses more than it hits, and the turn rate is slow to depend on a 90 degree arc gun for damage output.
That is a kinda of vague question. We do not know your Toon's Specialization nor do we know your "play style".
I hear lots of disagrrements in the Forums regarding the Dreadnought. Some say it is a disappointment, others swear by it. I do not own one so cannot speak to that ship, either way.
I do own the Tactical Oddy and the Tactical Vesta. I love both ships equally, but I cannot fly them the same way in combat for obvious reason. They have strengths and weakness each.
I honestly am on my Escort Carrier "kick" right now.
Sit on it for a while, new stuff should be coming out soon.
Agreed, no rush here there's going to be the 3rd Anny ship coming soon and more lock boxes for the Dominion, prices maybe go on sale in the Z-Store soon so at the moment I'd say just wait.
Buy some fleet modules. I think those would serve you better.
I second that feeling as well. The Vesta nor the Dread are not the best ship around but others might disagree. BUt I beat them all of these in PvPs...PvEs might help a little... Better put your money to buy modules for fleet ships or wait for the Ambassador or the Andorian Battlecruiser to come in the next few weeks.:D
I've seen my fair share of horrendously bad rainbow Oddys. Needless to say, you should spend a while thinking about what gear you can acquire, and what boff loadout you will use, then ask your question again for a better answer.
People online have been asking me why I have as one of my toys the Advanced Research Vessel Retrofit
1. I a big fan of the nebula class
2. It has a huge amount crew 750
3. universal slot for a science or eng.
4. Tacyon detection grid good for PVP
While the Advanced Research Science Vessel Retrofit has more crew than either of the other Science Vessels, it also has less maneuverability than either, which is more comparable to the the same Tier level Cruisers. While it loses a Science console slot, this is compensated for with a universal bridge officer slot, allowing for more flexibility in players choice of bridge officers. In addition to the basic subsystem targeting abilities, the ship gets an improved version of it's lower Tier equivalent ability. The Tachyon detection grid is supremely useful in PvP matches, as it has the potential to grant the entire team enhanced stealth sight, to help prevent alpha strikes and to stop Birds-of-Prey from running away.
The vessel's stronger hull and Lieutenant Commander engineering bridge officer station make it well suited to a tanking role in space combat. In the hands of a well prepared player, the Advanced Research Vessel Retrofit can withstand sustained or focused fire as well as a cruiser.
Thanks guys for the suggestions. Yes my Captain is an Engineer. I should have stated that. I am an aggressive player and like to get in the action, so firepower is a needed. I also forgot about the Multi Vector ship, should I even consider that? Yes, would love the upcoming Ambassador class, but looking for a more powerful ship. Thanks so far, keep them coming.
I just created a comparison Word file for me to look at them side by side and compare.

if you're an agressive engineer player, get the armitage, its pretty sturdy for an escort and has a lt. cmdr engineer boff slot, and has fighters, the fleet patrol escort and the blockade(steamrunner) escort are even sturdier with 4 engineer slots.

I can echo this sentiment. Setup the right way, Armitages, Maelstroms (and to a slightly lesser degree) Steamrunners can soak up insane amounts of damage while still dishing out some serious hurt and not sacrificing nimbleness (throw a tachyokinetic console on any of the three and they absolutely dance)
i would say since your an engineer get either the advanced cruiser retrofit (the excelsior) or the Assault Cruiser Refit: Regent (a boosted assault cruiser). They are decent enough tactical focused engineering cruisers.
If you are more aiming for the DPS side of things the Heavy Escort Carrier: Armitage, is a nice escort that if played right can do a fair bit of tanking.
If you want just raw firepower then your looking at the:
Tactical Escort Refit:
Add: Borg set
front:
Heavy anti-proton cannons 3 slots
Qauntom Torp launcher
Rear
Borg cutting beam
2 anti-proton turrent
This setup gives you 6 weapons shooting at a target on the fwd. pass. then you lock the borg tractor beam on the guy cut him up with Borg cutting beam.
Bridge officer abilitys:
High yield torps
rapid fire
scatter fire
emg. power to weapons
Eng team 1
Sci team 1
Tac beam
As an engineer in a Chimera who formerly flew in a Sci Oddy, I really want to try the Recon Vesta. DHCs, a hanger (Ultra Rare Scorps, please!), 4 Tac consoles, a decent layout... dude!

But all this is my humble opinion
