Hello Captains and welcome to Priority One's first production of 2013, broadcast live on TrekRadio.net on Thursday, January 10th, 2013 and published on Monday, January 14th, 2013 at PriorityOnePodcast.com!!!
What an amazing show we have lined up for you this week! In an incredibly plot-twist, we've renamed Blank of the Week to Trek It Out. Yeah, we know we have a show of the same name on the Priority One network, but we thought it made sense to incorporate a bite-sized version of it during our weekly Priority One Podcast. The content will remain the same -- anything we believe would be of interest to you -- from the latest scientific discoveries to news in the science fiction realm including, of course, Star Trek, and believe me when I tell you that the things we'll be able to do with this segment will be phenomenal, starting this week with an interview with a very special guest star Tim Russ, who most of you will know as Tuvok from Star Trek Voyager fame. After that we roll into this weeks STO News where we recap the Holiday Festivities, PvP Boot Camp round 2, STO's recent smoking of the free MMO competition, Epohh Tagging, the STO Gateway beta and also the news that a certain familiar face has been spotted around Cryptic Studios and what it could hold in store for Star Trek Online. After that we launch at maximum warm into Field Notes, where Priority One?s Advanced Technologies Division will take your Captain to the next level -- skills, ships, ground combat, tactics, weapons, you name it, we?ll cover it, and then finally, as if that wasn't enough, we open up our hailing frequencies for your feedback. Phew!
Enjoy!

I appreciate the time it takes to put this together but the reason I never listen to these is because there's too much talking for way too much time.
Honestly, I'd listen to these if they were 15 minutes or less. Personally I can't do an hour of listening to podcasters give excruciating detail about stuff that's already happening, and I'd love it if you'd briefly go over those things and move on to something that's exclusive to P1, obscure Twitter posts, sale events, etc, as that's where the value is, not regurgitating the STO website or making me sit through several minutes of Star Trek sound effects.
Also I'd love to see a timestamped transcript, even if it's automatically generated and loaded with errors. That way I could go to that part and listen in.
Not trying to be harsh but some feedback that you may not be getting. I appreciate the effort in any case. Could just be personal preference. Thanks for reading.
That's just why I personally don't listen regularly. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who care about Tim Russ and his fandom projects.
Without a series going, it's kind of bleak out there for a regular Trek fix. I used to be a big reader of the novels, but I've found them to be lacking over the last couple years. You can only watch the ST XII trailer so many times. I appreciate the effort that goes into this podcast, and all the others.
The app you utilize to listen to the show should have a method built in for fast forwarding past the fluff. Doing that seems like a more reasonable solution than removing content which others like to hear...IMHO.
Pretty much this. We know Cryptic are very cagey about releasing stuff early for pod-casters or even on their own website.
Mainly this is down to dev's trolling the player base or getting something wrong they should never be commenting on, and then because they get it so wrong, they mess it all up and then have to back track..
I also agree that there is not enough new stuff happening or coming up in sto these days to warrant this type of podcast. This is why many pod-casts have branched out to other games or just closed down entirely.
Cryptic certainly do not warrant the level of fanboyism that they seem to only support either, but that's a whole new other topic
Nevertheless, we'll always be hear to bring you the latest news and happenings from Star Trek Online!
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=
Yeah ACT is pretty awesome, specially when it said I kicked Elijah's Aft 6 ways to sunday
As the guy that compiles the feedback I'd like to thank everyone who's posted

I'm sorry you feel that way. We thought a quick, 20min interview with Tim Russ would be a nice treat for our weekly listeners. Did you feel that the Field Notes segment was also unrelated to STO?
Thanks!! I'm really glad you enjoyed the episode!!
And the Hilburt guide, while its a good source of info, bothers me. Has STO become so DPS focused that we need such tools to play the game? What ever happened to the ideal of any build, any ship, being viable?
Also, doesn't this program violate the agreement not to use using 3rd Party Programs?

Also congratulations to Adrianne, great news!
This leading pretty off-topic, but oh well.
No you don't need them. All content is still easily beatable in random blue mk XI gear. And that's fine. But some players just like to optimize and tweak to get the most out of their ships. How can you critizise that? And for those players the tools are great. If you don't like them, don't use them. No one is taking anything away from you by trying to optimize their builds. I don't care what numbers the other people in my pugs run, I use those tools just to get the most out of MY own ships. It's also not about proving that escorts are better than anything else or whatever, there are 500 aspects to tweak on cruisers and sci ships too to get more out of them than with the default builds. Improving my play for fun is the only reason I'm still playing at all in between season updates, it's not like there is a ton of new content every week (foundry excluded).
See your own comment about "easily beatable in random blue mk XI gear"?
Lets face it, people are promoting these parsers so much you go into an STF, there is usually someone is recording it and giving out the stats at the end. And then tell those who have unsatisfactory DPS that they need to improve? Call them a newb? What if that was directed at you? Sure feels like peer pressure to change your build or be left out in future groups because you have a bad build, doesn't it?
That is why the majority of people are flying Escorts, or DPS capable ships like the Vesta and the Tor'Kaht. Because Cruisers and other Science Ships in general just don't cut it anymore because of the DPS heavy environment. Unless you're saying you can win NWS with just Cruisers or Science ships.
Then there are the STFs themselves, thanks to these parsers, people can literally solo the Elite STFs now. We have seen people post videos of people soloing 1 side on Khitomer Accord (and handling probes on both sides), there was a recent one of someone soloing Cure Space Elite, and it's not uncommon an uncommon sight that people soloing Borg Cubes in any STF.
What's next? Cryptic ramping up the difficulity in the Elite STFs so it gives those people a challenge?
We've got the Video Companion up on our YouTube Channel!
Enjoy!

Thanks 4 the update !
I was looking 4 this earlier and thought to QQ about it here ... and thought that maybe I misunderstood about it there being a youtube companion 2 the podcast .
Having said that , and having read the feedback here , I think that the T.Russ interview could have been added to the end of the podcast -- with a teaser provided in the opening of the podcast , so that those who were interested could have enjoyed it at the end of the podcast .
I also agree with the poster that a STO question would not have hurt , and as to the interview , it was nice to hear that they found the funding for the next Fan Film . Last I heard the fundraising wasn't doing so well , so it's nice to hear that that is moving forward .
One last note , could you guys perhaps look into capturing the STO:BootCamp (either via MP3 files or Fraps) ?
It would be nice if that existed as a reference guide of sorts to STO PVP .
I'll try 2 forward this idea to Sargon as well , but maybe you guys could needle him as well ?
