Then why can't we have a D'deridex in a lockbox? Can someone from Cryptic answer the question, please?
Well, because this would be pretty much mean that we will never get a Romulan faction. Cryptic already once stated that they regret handing out the Galor cruiser to the players due to the fact that this killed a possible Cardassian faction. I think they will be more careful from now on with what they'll be putting in lockboxes, so I doubt you guys will ever get Romulan ships for your feds.
I think that's pretty short-sighted of Cryptic to decide that just because we have Galors that a Cardassian faction is impossible. Just because it's a rare ship for us doesn't mean it can't be a main ship for playable Cardassians. Heck, Cryptic would probably have to use Dominion ships (captured and "repurposed") to flesh out the Cardie faction anyway.
I believe that dstahl said the galor was picked while he took time away from being EP, and in hindsight should not have been selected. however i dont recall him ever saying it killed the faction. just not ideal.
but if a cardassian faction comes it will be so many years between the lock box and the faction that it wont be that big of a deal. the romulan faction is next, and at some point we are getting them. who knows when or in what shape but releasing a rommie ship in a lock box, then having one appear for free 6 to 12 months later or so would be a bit TRIBBLE for the people who spent money buying one.
Then why can't we have a D'deridex in a lockbox? Can someone from Cryptic answer the question, please?
Because some people still kid themselves, in believing a Romulan Faction might happen one day ... including Dstahl, so it seems ... the Romulan Faction is just 6 months away for 3 years now, just like the complete KDF Faction is just around the corner ...
My guess is, it will happen sooner or later ... simply because they are running out of Lockbox ideas ... the whole stuff started with Jem'Hadar Ships, and now we're already back to "more Jem'Hadar Ships" ... what else would people really care about besides "Romulan Lockboxes" .... Pakled, Talarian Lockbox ... doubt it
Would still prefer Romulan Lockbox over Borg Lockbox, but I'm afraid, both might happen some day ...

I don't believe we will ever see a Romulan faction, considering they are already incapable of providing two fleshed out factions. Still I hope they will never hand out Romulan ships. There is already way too much non-Federation stuff transfered to the blue side. The very notion of battlecloaking feds is cringeworthy and if I would ever see this ingame I would certainly quit. However I'm very sure Cryptic is on my side with this. They could have given the Federation a B'rel Bird of Prey long ago, on basis of the 'Bounty' from Star Trek 4.

I think the Romulan faction will be 10-20 lvl on new romulus, doing some Romulan mission, then you join either SF or KDF and play the faction like nothing happened. Add some ships for the 10 or 20 first lvl, like Mogai, D'deridex,... Maybe continue to add them for higher lvl, if you are Romulan.
I would hate to see Romulan warbird used by everyone, when a Romulan faction/race is available. I'm sure KDF would hate to see Klingon ships used by the feds, and vice versa.
I don't think there should be any more factions. Certainly not before KDF is complete and not necessarily ever. We don't need another "stub" faction with missions copy-pasted from the Federation with slightly altered text.
I think the Romulan faction will be 10-20 lvl on new romulus, doing some Romulan mission.
Not sure if chasing bunnies is worth 20 lvl's of Gameplay, but seriously ... they would have to release at least 10 Romulan only missions for this ... considering it's already too hard to release 1 FE (5 Missions) per year and we haven't seen any KDF only Content for 2 years now ... i highly doubt even this ...

Well the question is ... will a Romulan faction be available ... but there is always the possibilty of releasing "Reman Warbirds" ... or something like this ... Warbirds with a darker skin and without Battle Cloak i.E. ... considering I can't imagine what the next 4-5 Lockboxes should be, I'm gonna expect a Reman Lockbox at least ...
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.
Maybe since they would never add the old tos romulan bop to the game as a enemy ship maybe cos its too old (tho they use ent bop???) maybe that could be a lockbox ship. Not sure if the original ship on its own could be considered a t4/5 ship which is understandable but a refit of it perhaps tho keep the same looks as the original which i loved in balance of terror. Thats the only way i can see a romy lockbox without effecting the romulans as a playable race in the future.
By putting the Deridex in a lock box, it'll feel cheap. If/When the Romulan faction comes out, people will have already had the Deridex thus it wont feel so special.
As mentioned already, it was regrettable that the Galor found its way to a lock box ship. They've admitted their error there. They're hardly going to go and make the same mistake again.
I'll bet you that the battlecruiser will be a lobi-ship.
I think you're right. The Jem Hadar Escort will be the lock box reward, and the warship/battlecruiser will be the lobi reward.
I can't see a Cardassian faction (at least a full faction) ever being made anyway, so the Galor being prematurely released isn't a great loss. Same goes for the Jem Hadar ships; they'd be ideal within a Cardassian faction; be them as renegades from the Dominion, or a new Cardassian-Dominion alliance. Ideally, lock box ships should have always been ships that were unique, but not (so much) aligned to a major power (thus leaving the possibility of said faction open). With the Cardassian and Dominion lock box, I don't see us getting those factions. I'm surprised they've not thrown the Keldon into the lobi store yet either. Throw in a clock, you've got yourself another unique vessel.
Romulans? Yeah, eventually I expect we'll see them, but that's about as far as I can realistically see us going.
I would love to see a Romulan faction, so I don't really want the D'Deridex in a lockbox....but also I don't want a bastardized version of the Romulans to be released and have it be buggy, lacking storyline(*cough*someone said KDF?), or turn out like the Red team in general....that would just make people even more angry than they already are about the 1 & 1/2 factions that exist now. I don't think they ever planned on a Cardassian faction either, Dstahl just said he regretted using the Galor in a lockbox because he wanted us to think they had it in mind at one point. I sincerely doubt they are that forward thinking other than a general fear we will burn through their content faster than they can manufacture it.
I've said it elsewhere, but my hope is for a 'Misc' or 'Independent' faction, so everyone can pretty much make their own third/fourth/whatever faction.
Caitian militia, Gorn separatists, Orion cartels, Ferengi corporations, Mirror Universe refugees, fifteen different splinter Romulan groups claiming inheritance to the empire (which is realistic!), and so on.

Both a Romulan and a Cardassian faction could be lvl 50 only, unlocked when a player has either a Fed or KDF lvl 50 character. I know what you guys might think about an idea like this, 'NO! This is exactly what many KDF players have criticized so much about their faction!'. Yes, I know that, but I can't see Cryptic making a dozen FE's for a new faction when they make barely ONE in a year. Also who the hell cares about FE's anyway? Even a new player burns through all the official single player missions of this game within a couple days and reaches lvl 50. STO is all about Fleet Actions, STFs, Starbases, Reputation, PvP and Foundry missions. All endgame content. The rest is just the garbage you need to do to have access for the REAL content. Therefore I wouldn't mind to start directly at lvl 50 (or 40 and do a couple unique missions on New Romulus for FE gear) and then go immediatly to the fleet and Omega business. Provide one ship for each class (Raider: Romulan BoP; Escort: Mogai; Cruiser: D'deridex; Science: Romulan Scout vessel from TnG?) and of course access to eventual lockbox ships. Same could be done for a Cardassian faction.
Gozer once stated before he left that Cryptic planned a complete revamp of PvP with mixed faction teams. I therefore conclude that Cryptic is already planning on ending the war between Feds and KDF and presumably send them united against the Iconian threat. Pretty much like Dominion Wars reloaded, with PvP just a maneuvres for training purposes. A possible Romulan/Cardassian faction could join the fight.
It would lead to one big happy familiy in the galaxy, a notion which I don't really like (Star Trek is all about politics from the different factions, not one huge alliance), but I can't see anything else within range to be offered.

The reason why the KDF criticize this idea, is they have seen what it leads to, and it is never good for the health of the faction.
This is LITERALLY what happened with the KDF. it was released as a PVP faction. then a 20-50 faction which had to be unlocked before it could be played.
The result, Most players don't care about KDF. Because you are already too invested in whatever your previous character is. The result is KDF gets almost no development and even fewer "Toys" as there is no incentive to us what is a limited number of development resources on what is a relatively small number of the overall playerbase.
No, Cryptic should not release any new faction as a half/partial/PVP/ or end-game faction. Full faction level 1- max, or don't bother. Please don't make the same mistakes you did with the KDF.

I must be quite unique as a KDF player. I only played a Federation character to unlock the red side and immediatly deleted him when I reached lvl 25. But even if the KDF gets lvl 1-20 content in season 8 I doubt there will be a bigger playerbase. Star Trek is Starfleet, most players only want to play Federation. I therefore understand why Cryptic works almost exclusively on the blue side, from a pure business point of view. It will be the same with Romulans and Cardassians, no matter if they start on lvl 1 or 50.
The KDF should never been a faction in the sense of Red vs Blue and neither be some kind of bizarro Federation since the only thing they achieved was pleasing nobody.
This. This is exactly why we need more factions. The Klingon Empire barely deserves its name anymore. When I visit Q'onos I see more Gorn and Orions than Klingons, and the latter are mostly NPCs
The KDF should never been a faction in the sense of Red vs Blue and neither be some kind of bizarro Federation since the only thing they achieved was pleasing nobody.
People that wanted to play a Gorn ended up playing as Klingon Lizard, people wanting to play anything but a Klingon got stuck with playing as one and people wanting to play a Klingon end up on some strange version of the Klingon Empire.
The playerbase is not there because this is Star Trek Online, playing as a KDF character is not a different experience as a Federation officer but rather as a Klingon no matter what along with like minded Klingons no matter what with a utter pointless and nonsensical war that was only created to provide two excuses ... KDF races choices and PvP.
This, seriously this.
The reason I shy away from making more Klingon characters is because the whole experience isn't Klingon enough.
It has nothing to do with a lack of mission content because at L50 it's all the same anyway across factions.
People constantly whine, and it is whining, about the lack of missions from 1-20.
This is really just a joke, 1-20 takes a few hours fed side unless you are literally stopping to pick daisies and waste time on purpose. 1-20 is the least memorable content in any 1-50 MMO.
I want my Klingons to be Klingons. I don't want them to be Gorn, Orions or whatever other bizarro freak alien you made.
I want those races in game too, but I hate that they were lumped into the KDF and diluted what the KDF should have been.
We ended up with a Klingon empire that wasn't very Klingon and acts like simple thugs and typical "bad guys" - which is a shame because Klingons have come a long way, and accrued greater depth, from their original TV show villain days on TOS.

I recently redid the "night of the comet on one of my KDF toons to get the cane. The funny part is that after the fighting you have to follow Scotty around.
So he makes some comments:
Those are some funny uniforms you are wearing:
My response if I could "We are klingons - but not wearing the cheap TOS era costumes"
Well, because this would be pretty much mean that we will never get a Romulan faction. I say they give us whatever. Whenever they get around to implementing factions, they can simply delete the faction ships we have and replace them with a new ship with the same exact stats and layout. Everything will be exactly the same except we would no longer have a galor for example, we would have johndoe ship redesign.
Problem. The. ****. Solved.
They got no beef whatsoever taking things away after they go live and we pay for them. So I don't see a problem here. Now, I don't want to lose my JHAS if one day a dominion faction comes into play anymore than the next person, but I rather lose my JHAS for a johndoe ship but still with all the perks a JHAS has that I rightfully paid for, than for someone to go, "oh, we gave them a JHAS. I guess that means we can never have a Dominion faction. Oh weeeell guess we're SoL because CBS said so!" and never have the option to start up my new Jem'hadar soldier so I can run around DS9 and scream Victory is life! to everyone like I'm the biggest nerd EVER.
Of course, if I got some generic piece of TRIBBLE escort redesign in place of my JHAS, I would not be happy whatsoever but I might just live with it and play my new Jem'Hadar solider for a new JHAS.
This idea sure as hell beats never getting a romulan warbird for example, because they MIGHT get around to implementing a romulan faction someday.

While I disagree with the underlining idea (I hate the idea of deleteing ships in favor of generic ones) I can't argue with the underlining priciples behind it.
Truth be told, I am probably much like you. Though I want all the Lockbox ships for all my alts (aproximately 19) the only one I would probably be flying a Galor, for instance, would the be the Cardassian. Because truthfully that is what I want. A Cardie in a Galor. Now while I am currently stuck with a Federation Alien in a Galor, chances are if a Cardassian Union faction were enacted, I would ditch my Alien Cardassian for a Real CU one, Galor and all.
The same would be true of a Romulan with a lock box warbird.
The result, Most players don't care about KDF. Because you are already too invested in whatever your previous character is.
I hate to be a downer, but the reason most people don't care about the KDF isn't that its a short faction, its because they simply don't care about the KDF. Heck, Cryptic is all but hocking it with all the little extras it gets "just because" and people outside the hardcore KDF fans are STILL mostly using it for farming dil.
Short factions where Cryptic is upfront about the faction's future is the way to go. Folks could get their Romulan/Cardassian/etc faction but knowing upfront what to expect. That's what causes all the KDF bitterness, Cryptic was never upfront or succinct about what they should expect.
Let's just come out and say it, STO has factions in the first place only because World of ******** has factions. If it weren't copying WoW, the Federation and Klingons would still be allies and we'd get to fly both sides with the same toons. And it would be better.
Well, because this would be pretty much mean that we will never get a Romulan faction. Wait does this mean that the Dominion Lockbox means no Dominion Faction Ever? The Dominion would have had the most interesting game play experience of any possible faction, as different from the Klingons and Federation as each was different from the other.
If this is the case I may boycott the Dominion Lockboxes in protest. I want to hear from Cyptic if this is true before I decide.
Anyone else starting to think the lockboxes period might have been a mistake? The cost appears too hight, and I'm not talking fincially I'm talking faction wise.
Comments
Other than that, i want a romulan bop too.
