Mix it up a little: your favorite NON-pulsewave ground weapons

momawmomaw Member Posts: 0 Arc User
I'm curious to know how many people out there use ground weapons *other* than pulsewaves. Yes, we know, pulsewaves are pretty nifty, but there's a lot of other options!

For everything that isn't borg, I roll with an auto-rifle and a compression pistol. These weapons have a similar sort of intermediate range, and complement eachother very well.

Auto-rifle: Medium-long range on the primary attack, very high rate of fire, with a cone expose attack that has no appreciable activation delay.

Compression pistol: Solid intermediate range weapon, very high rate of fire, its exploit does "most" (80%?) of the damage of a sniper rifle but the activation and recharge time is much faster.

So, typically run and gun with the auto rifle until somebody gets exposed then switch to my pistol and give them charged shot. The guns have similar DPS so there's no pressure to switch back once the exploit shot is taken, unlike a sniper rifle which has fairly low DPS. You can pull your sidearm for the exploit, and keep on shooting without hurting your damage output.

Your personal weapon choices?

    High Density Beam Rifle.

It's basicly a Pulsewave with a lot of range, sort of a mix between a Sniper Rifle and Pulsewave. Very versatile.

I like the pistols, too: Compression, Dual, Stun.
They have their uses, altho their shorter range makes them a bad choice in some situations.

Sniper rifle, usually equipped alongside a pulsewave for versatility. I can swap between long and short-mid range very quickly.

I used to be a Dual Pistol person myself... damage, man, but they're not great for STFs so I kinda don't get around to using them anymore.

Hmm, maybe taking the thread one step further:
Which weapons do you like to put on your BOffs?

    Personally I tend to have:
Melee Tacticals, Nanopulse or Fleet Bat'leth, nowadays.
Ranged Tacticals, Dual Pistols or Split Beam Rifle.
    Sci with a Stun Pistol.

I change it up whenever I get bored with different weapons.

Assault Minigun + Split Beam: Laying down minigun fire and following up with a split beam attack yields wonderful results. I use this mainly in colony invasion along with fire team.

Dual Pistol + Sword: Works nicely for close encounters. Used mostly with operative for stealth attacks.

Blast Assault + High Density (both with knockback): Something I started using awhile back for support, mainly in The Cure ground.

Anti-Proton Carbine + Compression Pistol/Sniper: What I use against the Borg. Expose targets with carbine, finish with pistol or sniper depending on what's needed. Used with fire team or operative and full Omega set.

Are you surprised? Shocked? I don't use a pulsewave against the Borg! Trolololol! I started using this after seeing idiots with pulsewaves run up to Borg in STFs, thinking they're pro-l33t, only to be wiped out by tactical drones. I've yet to see anyone outside of my fleet use pulsewaves without getting killed...a lot.

I use the Jem"Hadar Beam Pistol with anti-coagulant ammo. It is actually pretty good for a mission reward weapon. It's pretty much a mini high density beam rifle.

Minigun. They rip through anything except Borg, and with the Omega passive that slows adapatation, they're almost as good on Borg.

Ever since that patch that buffed that passive, adaptation has been so slow for me that it hardly matters. With a sniper and pulsewave I went through an entire elite Infected with only two adaptations and never having both weapons locked out at once. With a minigun in regular missions (elite difficulty) I'm only hitting adaptation every 2-3 groups.

Defo the minigun on my KDF Tac officer. I dont even unequip it vs borg (needless to say they adapt fast against so many little shots) but its just to badass not to use. But yea i love the Pulsewave on my Fed Science officer (sorry!) Its just to much fun. :)

My fav are the splitbeams, they deal a lot of damage up to three targets at long distance. A tac with fireteam can vap three targets on a lucky crit, And the splitbeam has a low cooldown as well.
O'm also fond of the sniper, more damage against single targets then the splitbeam, but with the general spam of npcs, anything that can kill more then one target at a time is preferred.

Miniguns because I always loved minigun in every game. Also the omega assault rifle, because it looks really awesome when it shoot.
On my sci I use a pistol, but I don't really like it much.

Once it's back ingame, I'll buy the flamethrower. Tested it on tribble and it was simply awesome. And I also love flamethrower.

I'm a bit sad cryptic made the pulsewave the "best have" gun. Well, except the flamethrower.

Bat'leth - but y'know - the real Bat'leths, not the Nano ones I'm seeing a lot in ground STFs at the moment *sigh*

Note to those using Nano-melee weapons - you use a melee weapon because it bypasses the shields - Nano-Pulse weapons *don't*

...or maybe they just use it because that's what they want to use?

Note to weylandjuarez...people play their own way...sometimes it will differ than the way you play...and that's ok.

I hear ya, those people make me facepalm too.

Though, I prefer the lirpa for its better AOE combos. Wade into a horde of drones and juggle them around while your team mates plink. :)

That's why you pair it up with Tachyon Harmonic III, rip down their shields, and do greater DPS than just about any other Bat'leth.

Split beam on exterior non borg maps where you need more range of fire rather than damage (typically mine trap), otherwise i'll always use a pulsewave. There is no better weapon for dps! :D

3 of my 4 away team carry split beams, the other an assault minigun. I carry the KHG carbine and a sniper tho I swap it for a HD[kb3] when I don't need the range.

I'm hoping we eventually get a 'Dominion' reputation system so that I can get a purple Mk XII quality High Density Jem'Hadar Pistol.

lately i switch my ground weapons up a bit. I'm loving the omega carbine that I just got. also, type 2 TOS phaser from night of the comet, nano-pulse Lirpa and m.a.c.o phaser sniper rifle. i have a couple of others in my inventory, but the above are my mainstays.

May away team currently uses 4 Blast Assaults with [dmg]x2 [kb3]

I love it when we run up to a group on NPC's and they simultaneously launch a barrage with their secondary fire.

    Sniper rifles.

Not the most exciting things in the world, but they're useful in basically every mission, allow you to do damage without aggroing everything, and turns "Starbase Incursion" into a cakewalk.

Most of my characters have either a Compression Pistol or a High Density beam rifle plus a pulsewave as backup.

My characters with the complete MACO have the MACO Sniper rifle and either a HDBR or PW.

Sometimes I'll use the full auto rifle on fast moving enemies like Tholians.

On my main character who does the most ground STFs things can be situational so I'll store extra weapons like the Lirpa and the Ghostbusters gun on a Boff just in case.
My Romulan Liberated Borg character made it to Level 30 and beat the (old) Defense of New Romulus with the skill point bug. :D

Sniper rifles. For non Borg, a fleet elite full auto or minigun is quite nice.

If and when they give it to us on Holodeck: Plasma Flamethrower.

If your team is shooting at your target, it doesn't matter. The shields will drop before the target dies either way.

    My faves:
Various melee weapons, I use Nanos a lot but also tholian crystal and a few others
Full auto, primary fire is range 30, secondary is less, They have DPS almost as high as a pulsewave and are a very versatile weapon. Works quite well paired with melee.
    I sometimes use sniper rifles

I LOVE the rifle, but it needs some fleety or MK XI love, and the ammo should be a bit higher

My KDF characters have to have the HG pulsewave equiped so they either use a Sniper rifle or Blast assault as a secondary weapon. I think the blast assault is highly underated, it has a great secondary attack but with a long cooldown so I often follow up a a ambushed buffed grenade with the blast assault attack then switch back to the pulsewave right after.

On the Fed side I have to have the MACO rifle equiped so I don't have much choice in secondary weapon, a pulsewave.

Its to much trouble to have different weapons for STFs and non STF stuff, so I just keep the same STF gear equiped always, works great.

    Hmmm... ground weapons.

Photon Grenades. Then Plasma Grenades. Stun Grenades if needed.

    Smoke Grenades are useless.

I prefer the high density beam bc: 1) it's got good range and dps, 2) it's hecka bunch of fun to vaporize on exploit and 3) I always liked the single continuous beam rifles on the earlier shows instead of the more "burst" rifles in the later shows and movies.

Elite Fleet Phaser HDB is beast.
