Just an idea, why not give BoPs an additional ability of having shorter revive cooldowns in STFs and some events?
I agree with you but odds are soon this thread will be filled with whiners and criers that claim bops are too OP already and that they need to be nerfed. In their eyes BOPS have 1 million hull health LOL It's just a majority of bop users know what they are doing and hardly ever die unless its things like NWS where there is so much clutter and spam that they get pounded so hard. Sad thing being I mostly play KDF I haven't really come across anyone who ever wants to do NWS to even do it.
I really like the BOP and before I made the jump to my Vo'Quv with my Science Main I had a lot of fun in the BOP.
The big problem that I had with using the BOP was that I never knew when to get out of dodge and would over engage and end up a smoldering pile of Space debris.
Try has I might I just could never get use to the Hit and Run play style
Just an idea, why not give BoPs an additional ability of having shorter revive cooldowns in STFs and some events?
I think the -Threat consoles are a nice boon to BoPs in STFs.
To be honest with you the main reason I no longer fly a BoP for STFs is because I don't need cloaking and because other KDF options* are so amazingly strong that taking the BoP just feels silly.
(Currently Fleet Vorcha, 1K Vet Ship, Kar'Fi & Guramba are my ships of choice).
I don't think a reduced cooldown timer is ever going to happen for a single class of ships.
I fly nothing but BoP! My Haj Heavy BoP is so invaluable in a borg STF battle. the biggest mistake is see, is when lazy captains load up a BoP with beams instead of cannons. I have rapid fire cannon volley, scatter volley, high yield torps, and scatter volley of torps. THis is done with all anti protom dual heavy cannons, and transphasics, namely the cluster torp, and the rapid fire torp. My BoP will come in, decloak, send a barrage of death at the enemy in two volleys. The second that i'm in danger, i cloak, reposition, and when the enemy has another target, i de-cloak and repeat.
I was actually considering for my first fleet ship, the Hoh'sus BoP. Does anyone have this, as i would like to know what its like. I am currently swaying towards the fleet B'rel.
All my ships are BoP, and i wouldnt change any of them!

Ain't Nobody Got Time for That
I've recently been playing around with a CC/support Hegh'ta on my sci. That too, has it's uses. You just don't blow up stuff quite as fast, but you also die way less.
Throwing around grav wells, tykens and tbr'ing proves a very effective way of clearing death torps, leaving time to toss around he's, tss, aux2sif and tac team to the big guns.
When going after small fry, just switch back to full weapons power, maybe shuffle some boffs to favor tac skills, and blast those probes and spheres.
I also expect a sale to coincide with the 3-year anniversary, like last year. If so, I will finally get me my B'rel

I have changed the avatar. Death to the federation!
I too am looking forward to getting a B'rel, but they have added the Hoh'sus BoP, so now i dont know which one i will go for! Anyone have any suggestions or advice?
I fly a BoP too, and I don't die nowhere near enough to need reduced cool down times. As long as you remember the 'run' part of hit & run you'll be fine.
Oh hey look the Raptor has every ability that the BoP does just MORE of it. Gee guess I'll prefer my BoP.
C'mon now. You can say you prefer it, but don't think to yourself that it is even equal to a Raptor for STF work. And certainly don't say it here.
And as far as playing it a bit SCI heavy, sure you can. Just if you put the TAC option in there you can actually just kill the stuff without need for SCI cc.
I'm not saying you HAVE to do it. Just saying some options are measurably better than others. Plus I mean, why wouldn't you want to put out 100% for your team with your ship choice? In a normal there's a LOT of room for shennanigans, but in Elite you may want to put away the toys for a bit.
All in all have fun and keep shooting the bad guys!!
Reason why I like my BOP better then a raptor for STFs is I can put out about the same DPS as a raptor in my Hoh'sus, but with the universals I can also use a Lt Cmdr Sci or ENG ability since I usually run Cmdr and Lt Tac. This lets me do things escorts cant do like EWP1 or GW1 but still have way more dps then a sci ship or cruiser. Sci ship isn't really needed for STFs, you just need a Lt Cmdr station for 2 heals and a crowd control ability to be able to support, and BOP does that while still being good DPS to.
I rarely die in any of my BOP in STF, and I have the Heghta, B'rel, and Fleet Hoh'sus. It just has too many tricks up its sleeve for stupid borg to kill it besides getting lucky hits from the 1 shot invisitorp of doom.
B'rel is still one of the best STF ships of all as it easily dispatches tough NPC's on elite within seconds like cubes without even being shot at many times due to being able to fire torps while cloaked and not even appearing for a second when laying mines. Just use tricobalt mines with DPB3 and it can still take out cubes instantly on a crit, or a huge chunk of its health without crits, then romulan plasma torp spam can quickly finish it. A B'rel can EWP or GW all the nanite spheres as they spawn, packing them together for a nice trico mine explosion, sometimes 1 shotting all the nanites before your team even finishes the transformer on ISE.
Once you start moving the BoP away from a pure Tac layout and pushing it towards anything else....those anything else ships start to look like better choices. So take away the extra Tac and you have a KDF cruiser with a GREAT turn rate and GREAT speed and like no hull. So where the KDF cruiser could just keep pounding away, potentially the BoP needs to scoot away for a bit to heal. So there's a big tradeoff that a BoP makes by doing those sorts of things that cruisers or scis are built to do.
It may not SEEM significant, but it is there. I don't really think you need to precisely measure it, I think it's enough to say "if I take myself out of the game for 30 seconds to heal up or cloak or manuever every couple of minutes" that's a pretty good chunk of damage just not being done. As opposed to a cruiser. That will just keep doing it.
Again, not saying you CAN"T do it. Just saying that gee if u need a hammer, and you have a hammer, use a hammer, and not the wrong end of a screwdriver.
That B'rel trick really is a B'rel trick and what can anyone say? Someday that will get patched into never never land.
If anything the BoP should have a speed bonus rather than a re-spawn bonus.
Give it a +speed bonus for 10 seconds on top of the ambush bonus when the ship decloaks.
Okay. On top of all the ideas that make no sense that you've put forth, I like this one the best! I mean, okay. Where to start? Yes I'll TAKE the speed bonus that cloaking gives me in the first place. Then I'll put Omega on top of that whenever I have it cause well that's what you do, and THEN when I decloak I want ANOTHER speed bonus!
If you can get this idea passed, I'll see to it that someon from these forums practices making babies with you. Maybe Sophie. Would that be a good choice? Let me know I'll need to set it up!
Yeah good point about the KDF cruisers especially the Bortasqu or Fleet Torhkat, both of which I also use in STFs a lot. Great thing about them is with DHC and a torp I can do escort DPS but don't usually need heals or to evade around at all to survive, so have almost 100% uptime on target which should result in much higher damage throughout the encounter.
I cloak for the threat dump and damage bonus every time it's off cooldown.

I've run Raptors in STF, I've run Battlecruisers in STF, and I keep going back to my BoPs (except on my Sci, who's got a Kar'fi...).
So, let us look at why:
1. any firearms instructor will tell you that it doesn't matter how big your gun is, or how many features it's got, it's how comfortable you are with it and how well you use it. In videogames/MMO's this translates into a phrase known as "Playing style"-the animation/toon one is most comfortable using, even if it is NOT statistically the best possible option.
2. a lot of people aren't happy jumping from hull-to-hull all the time. a BoP doesn't require you to run to the shipyard between STF, PvP, or storyline/featured missions. For players who do NOT have three years' worth of gear banked up prior to S7 on every toon they own, the choice of a single hull (whatever hull it is) means not having to waste limited minutes (yes, some of us can't spend 8-16 hours/day on the game mastering every possible hull config) switching the deflector/engines/shields/weapons/Bridge stations to have the "Optimum" build for each individual task. a BoP is a generalist in the true sense-you can change its entire role-set (sci, eng/support, tac) between respawns.
Raptors, by contrast, are nothing but DPS machines with a handling issue, with fixed bridge officer stations that pre-set to a specific kind and style of play. Battlecruisers are...well...cruisers, with the limited Tac stations of cruisers, limited sci stations of KDF Battlecruisers, etc. etc.
3. BoPs are actually fun to fly. It's that whole turn-rate thing-it handles, unlike the "proper Escorts" or Raptors, (well, escorts minus the rickokulusly OP Jem bug, anyway), it's got turn-rate and turn-around rate, making it appropriate as a "universal" ship you can finish the Elite STF in, then turn around and go play C&H or Arenas in. You're not Only-good-in-ideal-conditions.
Really? You felt the need to post this just to agree with what I said? Or did you just not understand what I said?
And it isn't 'statistically better'. Raptors are measurably, and easily so, better than BOP's in STF's. Just because someone sucks in a raptor or cant seem to drive one for some reason doesn't say a thing about the Raptor. It says something about the player. So don't go making this into something it isn't. If you in particular find basing urself next to the ship selector for the limited time you may be playing, well that's up to you. You'd need to poll about a thousand people before you could apply that to anyone else. If you don't believe that, look it up.
And I've demonstrated ALL this **** being done on ships with COMMON level gear. If you think that takes years to bank up, hey let me know, I'll toss few items your way. I even have a few mirror ships you're welcome to have them.
Oh and if you use the universal slots to simulate a cruiser or a sci, you end up with an ersatz cruiser or sci with none of the benefits of having the actual shipj. What don't you get about that? I mean you can't possibly say that that statement is untrue. It's obvious. And all this gear switching your talking about doing. What the ****? You just went from being the time pressured "lots of players" without "banks of gear" to a group of people with lots of time between respawns (cause you die a bunch) with an inventory full of gear to answer any situation!
Dude you're a riot. Get over it. At no point did I ever say "DO THIS OR STFU"
For you and your response I'd certainly make an exception.
I'm not sure how many times I need to say, "you certainly COULD do it and you're WELCOME to do so and HAVE FUN flying" before you get it. Would one more time help?
Cheers and happy flying!

I never have handling issues with my mirror qin heavy raptor.
I find it perfect for the borg empire defense missions, being able to kill a cube straight from the decloak in one pass is priceless, I champion my qin mirror heavy raptor over any other KDF ship any day.

That was coming from someone who always bashes the Bortasqu too and thinks it sucks just because he doesn't know how to pilot it properly, so take his opinions with a grain of salt. He also obviously doesn't know about the Somraw/ Fleet Somraw and how it doesn't have the pivot issues of the Qin. But even with pivot issues Qin is still great in STFs, just has trouble keeping up with escorts sometimes in pvp.

I mean, PVE and PVP I've sorta gone out of my way to make vids showing how to gear a ship with no dilithium needed, no special sets from grinding needed, just common gear. And showing how all the endgame stuff is reachable by anyone. I'm certainly not the guy saying you can't do it, or that you need special sooper gear or training. Sure a little sense and sure some things are better than others but beyond that if the mission get done and you had fun I'd certainly call it win win.
And since you brought it up.......although I'd hate to get TO FAR off topic....
No, I bash teh Bort, because I don't LIKE the Bort, (as in, I can run it, I just don't ENJOY running it). Notably, you're VERY defensive about your lifestyle choices, presuming that anyone who doesn't LIKE to run in a mud-slow, sluggish, bulky office-building/space-station-with-an-engine must be incapable of doing so, ignorant, incompetent, etc.
The difference between the two, is the difference between a Monster Truck and a Motorcycle-both are single-passenger rides, but one's a hell of a lot easier to get up a mountain trail than the other. (i.e. doing that which requires putting the target in front of the guns.)
Now, there ARE trade-offs made; I have mission flexibility, speed, and turn rate, you have as much resistance as a small task force, and depending on model, the potential to run 40% higher output on your guns on a per-gun basis and two more turrets than I can carry.
But you pay for it in turn radius, inertia (accelleration and stopping distance), and flexibility in your non-hardware mission powers (Bridge Officer abilities). which is fine, if that's what you like.
MY not-liking-it has zero to do with not understanding the advantages or build-I just don't like it, and find that my "Motorcycle" does the same basic jobs your "Monster Truck" does-but in a more compact, stripped down, and comfortable (for me) package. (oh, and CHEAPER-I didn't have to pay fifty bucks for mine, nor grind EC until my fingers bled...)
Capische, Surat? Put in the terms of another game, not everyone needs to waddle around in an Atlas to be competitive-some of us can do it in a Jenner.
But when we were wee ones and we saw our first image of an Atlas we were all....Oooooo! Bonus points if that first image was in black and white pencil in a soft cover rulebook.
Everyone Loves BoPs. And if they don't Love BoPs I bet they hate kittens and puppies as well.
No one here is saying OMFG you can't do that! At least I'm not. I think I pretty clearly showed a nice fluffy BoP enjoying an STF. I am baffled as to why you might think I condone an elitist style of play, or only paying hard cash or dil grinds for game items. Everyone KNOWS that option is there. I like to show people that may feel shut out of end game play because they DON"T have that option that they CAN compete easily and cheaply.
So I pointed out some alternative ships that are easy to purchase, kit out, and enjoy and are arguably better suited to those just starting out as well as being better suited to your average STF. BoP in an STF takes a certain amount of flair to make work, so how does it hurt to point the way to some cheap rugged options?
And just as a point of reference I have a BoP I've been known to fly. The build just SUCKS so hard for PVE. It's downright useless. And changing the Boff's with that bug they had was just annoying as all hell. And the gear. I could have a Raptor in ALL common gear that takes me all of a few seconds at the shipyard to change into, I do allllll of my pve pew pew pew and I'm done. Hell I'll kit out a ship for a couple hundred thousand EC including doffs and It'll be just fine. I don't consider that onerous or grinding anything to the bone.

Cheers happy flying!!
