Romulan Space Set Idea

obsidianballsobsidianballs Member Posts: 28 Arc User
We currently have the Romulan Hyper-Plasma Torpedo Launcher, Zero-Point Energy Conduit and the Experimental Romulan Plasma Beam Array, as the current 3 part Romulan set.

To add some variety available to Captains, I propose a possible 4th item that could be in this set.

Experimental Romulan Plasma Quad Cannons - The damage should be on par with the best Heavy cannons in the Romulan reputation store along with similar benefits to the Beam Array.

The Plasma Hyperflux set bonus could be tweaked to work with these new cannons in a similar way to the beam.

The Federation and Klingon Defence Force have developed quad cannons, there is no reason why other factions have not copied and improved upon the design.

I know the only quad cannons available in game are c-store exclusives, they are however overshadowed by pretty much any MK XII very rare cannon.

The move seems away from four piece sets to three.

The Devs probably realized that sets with more than 3 were exploitable. (though I love the idea of a 7 peice set)

Honestly does everything need to be about Escorts? Nothing stopping a Escort from using the beam if they want.

I have set my Boff skills up to use cannon / torp skills, shoe horning a beam array into my setup would lower its efficiency due to either leaving the beam array with no boff skills to enhance it or replacing a cannon skill reducing the output of my 4 remaining cannons.

Either way being forced into using a beam array would lower my overall damage output and it seems endgame is all about max DPS.

Honestly I'm finding I like having this single beam weapon on the front of my otherwise cannon Tor'khat. It gives me better damage against targets not yet in the cannons' arc, and the 3-piece ability works like overload + debuff and is nice as an opening shot before the cannon bolts start slamming in. Having a weapon with zero drain doesn't hurt either, since it ultimately boosts all other damage as well.

There was a time when 2 DHCs, 1 DBB and 1 Torp with 3 turrets was considered one of the best escort layouts.

We have simply returned to that time. 2x DHC, 1x Experimental Romulan Beam Array, 1x Romulan Hyper Plasma Torpedo up front with 2x Turrets and 1x Cutting Beam Array in the rear.

    AP:B 3, B:O 3, C:RF 1, TT 1
    T:HY 3, C:RF 1, TT 1

    Its still valid.

No one says you need to use the beam, maybe if it was the three piece set that buffed the plasma damage I can understand being a little upset.
