Is the bonus defense of escorts overpowered and how to fix this?

I started this thread in the main forum because it applies to KDF ships as well as Fed ships.

I have seen a few complaints that Escorts can tank far too well, and a big part of that is their 10% bonus defense. How does everyone feel about that assessment?

If people agree that bonus defense is too effective for escorts, I thought of an idea to balance things out:

1. Give all cruisers 10% base hull resistance across the board.
2. Give all science ships 10% base shield resistance across the board.

What do you guys think? Is this fair? Is there even a legitimate problem that this solution would address?

    The thing is, an immobilized escort dies fast. So there's that... and there's only so many defenses an escort can put in. APO is the best, since it helps with attacks and escorts have lots of tac slots. But you can only have so many APO...

    You can do any of the following to great effect or even in combination as a team:

    Target engines, VM, EWP, Tractor them when APO is on cooldown and lulz at how squishy Escorts are when they don't move.

    Yeah, my Sci gets retargeted by the respawning Escort almost immediately upon them returning to battle. :P

    Edit:

    Gravitic Anchor is another great counter against Escorts mobility and defense. It isn't broken by APO either. If you really want to be a prime douchebag use that against 'em. :P

    I think at battlespeed i remember my defense bonus being at 70% in my escort

    A lot of shots miss me and if they do hit i skirt out of range if i am in cooldown trouble with my defenses
    The only time I am ever destroyed in my escort is from a one shot,so in reality i tank better than a cruiser without tanking and deliver a lot more damage

    So yes cruisers and sci ships need a Buff as you mentioned but perhaps a bit more than 10%

    If only a tenth of the complainers actually knew how to fly or build their ships.....

    This is certainly true in PvE, like STFs. There is hardly a point in showing up in a science ship or cruiser anymore, because five good escorts can tank a Tactical cube without being destroyed.

    In PvP, the OP of escorts is not quite as bad, but it is still present, mainly due to Tactical Team and nerfed sci powers.

    There are so many abilities out there that are guaranteed hits it isn't funny, defense score is nice but you are always going to get hit with a sub nuc or tractor, enemies using FAW hit 100% of the time as well.

    I also haven't seen too many escorts are to tanky complaints since S7 launched, they blow up pretty fast in elite STFs.

    I don't know where you got the idea that FAW hits 100% of the time. Acc was nerfed some time ago iirc.

    Shield bonuses the more hull a ship has, make the bigger ships stronger. While keeping the smaller ships harder to hit.

    No penalty to escorts they play well as they are. I say this dying to them all the time, but they function as escorts should. The scale just needs to even out on the other end.

    Check combat logs and you'll see that FAW hits you 100% of the time, players ability was fixed... enemies? oops
