Iconians + proposal

I dont know abut you, but I really want some Iconian content , or rather more. They really fasinate me, and I want to learn more and get some real content out of them.
There could be an Iconian STF although if that was the case that would be another grind. (on an added note why does PWE not realise we want missions not grind?)
What would be nice is some proper content, like a FE or some connected missions about them. And what abou an Iconian set. Instead of everyone just getting one from the missions you could get Iconian marks /tech which only appear when the FEs get the special rewards . The set could be sometig like this:

[Iconian Covairent Sheild [Reg]x3] Can change frequency of sheilds to provide a sheild defence bonus. Requires 20 seconds of fire from the weapon that is fired. Defence bonus lasts 12 seconds
[Iconian Deflector] allows abilitys wih particle damage to be increased. Hull strength increase and sensors increase
[Iconian Engines] efficent at low power. + 2.8 turn
Set 2: passiveIconian computer addition reduces recharge times by 10%
Set 3: active Probe LuanchFire a targetable probe at the enemy with a choice of disabling Sheilds for 3 seconds or weapons for 5 seconds

This is just an idea. Maybe you could come up with a cool story for the Iconians or a different set design. Thanks for reading
Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.

I hope STO get's better ...

No Iconians should stay a mysterious race. So no STFs, no Set. Just make a few more Episodes for them.

Where you can fraud their plans, but not them in person.

Ah come on, you know they'll be in lock boxes eventually ;)

That said yeah, mystery is good.

I like the idea of more Iconian related stuff, but as woodwhity said I'm not sure STFs would be the best way to expand on them. It would take them into the same domain as the Borg and Undine - more of just another ship to blow up than a tantalising mystery to unravel.

Although, I do like the set items idea, but rather than the usual pi?ata grind of shooting stuff until it drops rewards, maybe it could be a more exploratory expansion to the current system patrols? Personally, I feel that would add more of an incentive to explore more of these strange new worlds.

Upon entering a system, the player is met with spacial anomalies or artefacts in orbit which they must scan and analyse. This then points the player to a location on the planet's surface, where there's a series of ruins from a long lost civilisation, and after solving a brief puzzle they then gain access to the catacombs. Inside, the player may be subjected to another puzzle before they find an ancient archive with information pertaining to the Demons of Air and Darkness or some other aspect of Galactic history (like the Preservers). There may also be some old tech that can be salvaged and adapted to then turn into the items detailed in jumpingjs' post - maybe even a vast array of items, from ship equipment to personal devices and weapons.

I'm just imagining a version without combat, but that could add some variety; some explorations could just be a series of puzzles, others you could encounter an enemy also exploring in the region and looking for something in particular, and some with the Iconian's seeking to reclaim their technology or destroy the ruins and all traces of a technology that could defeat them.

Each system would yield something different. Some might give you technology to develop into weapons or consoles in Duty Officer Assignments, or salvageable technology for immediate use, and some might only give the player a hint as to where to look next.

I'm thinking something kind of like the Preserver treasure trail in the Cold War series (with or without combat), with the same kind of historical narrative exposition as the Bajoran texts in Of Bajor, which would slowly uncover the Iconian's history whilst still keeping aspects of them a mystery, and reward the player with some new equipment.

They are the main enemy of the game. We'll face them sooner or later.

However it was my understanding the Iconians were really different than us. According to something I read from a mission, they can travel in space without spaceship. When they use one, it's for a special purpose (automated defence system, towing Sela's ship...). What is technology to them, sound like magic to us.
I don't think their technology can even be adapted to ours. It should never be adapted, and I sincerely hope we will never have "Iconian" stuff. We may learn some "trick" or design new equipement to face them, but never adapt it.
Also, it seems they were defeated by having the galaxy cooperate to fight them, and since they try to set chaos between the people, it seems this is our weapon against them. I think we move toward a Mass Effect/Dragon Age plot, IE uniting the various factions to face the ultimate enemy. Not using some new adapted tech to destroy them.

They need to be the ultimate enemy, the Borg from the show, something indimidating. Not the Borgs ingame, the one you face all alone on several mission. I don't want a "kill 3iconians ship" during a storyline mission, but more "help the fleet face the Iconian".
I really think the final fight against the Iconian should be some kind of Wolf 359 battle, with everyone vs very few Iconians. And yet a difficult victory/defeat you barely turn into a victory.
