As the title says, if anyone has ever timed their runs of Fastest Game on Ice, what is your fastest time, as measured from when your character starts moving (this can sometimes happen before the official "GO!" announcement) and you receive the "WIN!" announcement?
I seem to be pushing my limit at 1 minute 16 seconds. I'm already cutting corners and (ab)using the combat roll, and I doubt I'll get much faster than around 1 min 15 seconds. Anyone able to beat this?
There is no problem in the galaxy that cannot be solved with sufficient application of firepower.
I usually beat the NPC opponent of the guy who started before me, when I start ASAP after him. Sometimes I'm also able to beat him.
But honestly, I don't try to make a rush or something, I do this race on 4 characters every day, and it's been like the 12-13 times, so it's pretty boring, and I usually think of something else when I do the race.
Just over a minute. I can usually pass anybody within sight when I start. It seems to be the one thing I'm particularly good at in this game, despite the fact that I can't consistently use the jump-stop
im running the race with 5 toons and those with the ice shoes run it in 1,20 min ~ 1,40 min.
those without shoes run it in 1,30 min ~ 1,50 min
depending how well i cut the lanes or i get slowed. by bad rolls or such.
though!! i've seen a guy doing it with some sort of "bunny hops" and BEFORE i got the message: "entering the final stretch" he passed me.
that guy must be running it surely in under 1 min.

I usually do 1:20 or so but never picked up ice shoes. Do they help?
The "bunny hop" method is very nice for keeping momentum going while turning around corners, I'd wager you have to use it if you want to run faster than 1 min 15 sec.
My new best time is 1 min 14 sec, I wager improvement will be only marginal from here on out.
I don't think the Frosted Boots do anything, as the track is already frosted...

I use mouse-aim, plus generous use of strafe keys. Using this method, I've never had to let go of the forward sprint button and I always stay (mostly) inside the track.
Haven't exactly timed myself, but my fastest was when my NPC opponent juuuust turned the corner and became visible, before he was poofed out of existence.
I decided just to go for the win rather than speed after leaving the track too many times. Sometimes I don't see the enemy anywhere near but today it was too close. I really don't want to have to run the race multiple times per day as it saps the enjoyment out of it.

The boots are supposed to make you slide more so you're likely to lose control on the turns. I'd be interested if people have tried this. Personally I am planning to use my ornaments on other things. Purrrrple Lurrrrpa!

I haven't been able to knock people down with snowballs on the track, tho I get mauled by snowmen while racing. I'm calling this a bug and the devs should fix this !!! I SHOULD be able to knock down racers of the opposite faction with my snowballs, as I can while on the 'fast and flurrious' podium at race start.
The boots do seem to stack with the track's +speed -traction effect, though I may be imagining things too. Can still do it pretty quickly though; most often I'll be able to lap the last guy's opponent if I go right after him. Sometimes I even lap the last racer if he's one of the slower ones.
i wish it kept time and had a leader board so we could see who really was the fastest..

Snowmen never give me trouble as long as I signal the Race Coordinator before I can get hit by one. Once I'm flashed on to the track and starting the race, the snowmen leave me alone. It used to be bugged but they seemed to have fixed it a few days ago.
2:15 is my fastest time. I'm slow, but unless I lag I beat the AI competitor nearly all the time. Once in a great blue moon the lag might have me bounce off the track and DQ me, which is a real pain in the behind especially when the finish line is practically in sight or your more then half way done and the Gazebo is a long way away to reset the race.

that means I have done this stupid thing 135+ times
the FASTER i get it over with the better as my sanity is quickly slipping away:eek:
I do win the Fast and Flurrious regularly, so my technic should be fine.
I run the races daily with 46 toons for the Q pics.
I learned to run these races from the previous winter event, and running it soo much I've learned to become a pro.
My slowest time though is around 2min - so it all depends on the mood I am in, also the races iat times are affected by server latency etc...
Total time per day on a smooth day, around an hour
Total time per day w/latency, load times, lag - also side events, around 3hrs
Though after the runs I stop playing, 46runs kinda burns me out - I am almost done, most of my toons have Q Pics x740 as of 12/24/2012

You can't say that without letting us know :P
He's just cutting corners. You can do nearly straight thru the last 3 banks before the finish line. But you need a lot of speed going into them.
Anyways, I've caught people a few times and managed to pass the guy ahead of me's AI opponent quite often.
My character Tsin'xing
Let's set aside the fact that you have 46 characters in a game with only 3 classes & 2 factions.
My question is what do you plan to do with 46 copies of the exact same, character bound, ship?

All I can say is that I've never had trouble beating the critter that races me.
I don't really jump stop, but I find that drifting into corners helps.
Awoken Dead
Now shaddup about the queues, it's a BUG
I just made it just under 45 SECONDS! Without any rolling...
proof: Fastest yet!
You should maybe atleast try to not have Rick-roll in the URL when you try to send us back five years.
just roll on the corners.
