Ship switching(respec, boff and doff)

I own several purchasable(or boxed) ships:

* Tholian Orb Weaver,
* Tholian Recluse Carrier,
* Caitain Atrox Carrirer,
* Long Range Science Vessel Retrofit(intrepid),
* Tuffli Class Freighter.

At this point I play only with Recluse(and Tuffli). Other ships are practically unusable(altough Tuffli is elegant way to switch ships) and I would very much like to play with them also, especially with smaller and faster ones in some missions but there are several factors which are disabling me from this. This would also add replayability to existing content.

BOFF issue(or concept?)

At this point if BOFF is assigned to station on a ship he is automatically removed from station on other ship were its already assigned. Atm I have 14 BOFF, its not the problem to expand roster with more and set separate DOFF to each ship but some officers are unique like my pre-order Borg(Efficient trait) which I like to have on every ship. Skills are remembered on tray when BOFF is restored to proper station but if you accidentally set wrong one everything is lost and tray skills need to be reset for that BOFF.

DOFF

If skill bar requests different DOFF(active space) setup this has to be done manually there is no option to save are remeber setup for that ship.

SKILL BAR
In same cases when ships are switched skill bar will lose existing setup for some skills. It would be nice if there would be and option to save skills assigned to tray(like key bindings). I use big tray(3 rows) so reseting 30 skills is really tedious.

RESPEC
All above problems can be manually solved but respec seems like the biggest drawback as it cost real money. As play concept can be totally different for each ship when you switch ships your skills will probably keep you on low-end of DPS or skill usage.
I would personally like that space skills can be setup per ship not per character.

    Having multiple profiles would help for sure. Selling respec slots and charging expertise instead of zen for individual respecs would also be ideal for mitigating player rage at skill changes, but we know the best we'll ever get is paid respec slots.

    QFT! I hate it to switch ships now no matter what toon I play. On my tac the problem is a little less obvious as you setup your escort for max DPS anyways.
    My sci is a different story, there you can go for a semi escort style (Wells is perfect for this) or full sci (Intrepid in that case).
    Both builds are so different that I can only run 1 ship successfully, in this case the full sci.
    And resetting all skills is a major booboo in the butt.

    i too hate swapping ships and respeccing. That is why i have 12 toons. The reputations do not really help though, so i am abandoning 9 of my toons and going to pull only 3.

    to the BOFF'S - i solve this by naming them - every boff with name beginning with A goes to escort, every boff with B goes to BOP... and so on. but it is not ideal and takes time.

    To the respecs - Cryptic really should introduce 2 SKILL SETS for captains. To respec them would still cost money, but we could at least have 2 equipped ships with 2 different working layouts to switch between.

    Totally agree! We could really use some quality of life improvements on the ability to switch ships. Saved templates for your ships including Bridge Officer layouts and Quickbar layouts being two of the biggest and straight forward things.

    Take it a step further and provide a custom skill layout to go with the ship template! Obviously this would have to be a paid feature, and I can accept that. This would make money in the short term, and also make money in the long term because it would encourage players to go after multiple ships.

    Currently it is just too big a pain to really switch ships that much, especially considering I am perfectly happy with the one I fly. The thought of having to redo my BOs/Quickbars/Respec/Reequip discourages me from getting new ships.

    Another great idea that needs some attention, this also goes to say for that of swapping out on that of a shuttle for a mission which is needed at times. It isnt just an alt ship layout.

    NEW IDEA - how about having 5 free BOFF slots for every ship?

    (one COULD take the same 5 with to another ship, but it would be optional)

    I disagree. Picard never changed his skill-set when he piloted a shuttlecraft. Nor did any other captain. If you want a toon to captain multiple ships then you need to set skills to accommodate each ship. If you don't want to do that then you need one toon per ship.

    As players we're given the choice to fly a huge number of ships or a single ship. Part of playing this game is making choices that commit us to particular courses of events. People need to make that choice with ships and abide by their own decisions.

    Two of my toons have two ships. Four of them have three. To accommodate this I have had to set their skills in a way that allows them to be efficient in a larger number of things. That's the choice I made knowing that I'd need a toon per ship if I wanted to do it differently.

    As for changing ship, every time I change ships (every other day for each of my toons) I've found that my BOFF and ability tray layouts are always as I leave them with no need for adjustment. This is also true situations when the same BOFF has posts on multiple ships. I'm not sure why you're having trouble with that.

    If your layouts are changing you may want to record your setups. I screengrab the ship name and picture, the equipment fit out, the BOFF slots, the ability tray and the DOFFs and photoshop them together in case a problem forces me to have to remember what goes where. I recommend everyone does it. It takes a couple of minutes per ship but has the potential to save a lot of time and frustration in the future.

    I had mentioned at one point that being able to slot various BOffs into a given ship or ships and have them stay there , thus allowing each ship to have a pre-loaded, customized crew would be a great thing.

    1 Karfi
    1 Breen


    switching ships is in this game so senseless :)
    If the Andorian Ship will hit, i'll create an other toon
