Your Name

Does your name come up in game dialog text...or is it just there for you and other players to see?

For instance...say my characters First, Middle and Last name was First Middle Last.

I name my character First.

When I talk to the starfleet guy he calls me Ensign Last...which is absolutely fine...and what I prefer.

If I named my character Captain First...I will never get dialog text where an NPC calls me Ensign Captain First...will I?

From what I noticed, NPCs call you by your last or your "character name" 99% of the time. There's occasional dialogue, where the game calls you by "your first name"; if you name your character "Captain First", you might be called "*Rank* Captain First" when random NPCs notice your toon in a pop-up bubble, though that won't likely happen in actual dialogue. That is if you give your toon First and Last names specifically.

However if you DO want to be called "*Rank* Captain First", make sure you set your last name to that.

Well I definitely do not want to be called "Rank" Captain First.

I guess I will just wait till I can select a title and just keep my "character name" as my character's last name.

    Thanks for the info.

The NPC dialogues are written so that what ever your rank or name is can be inserted. Talk to an NPC when your a LT. and he wil call you LT. as soon as you are promoted he will call you LTCmndr.

Now if your name is 'Captain Johnny' and you are an Ensign and the dialogue insert requires him to call you by rank and last name he will address you "Ensign Johnny".

Or if it is Rank whole name it would be "Ensign Captain Johnny"

This is why they refer to you as "Rear Admiral Upper Half" they have no way to shorten it to Admiral.

So if my name if my full name John Doe...it's probably "best" to make my character name just John or just Doe...instead of Captain John or Captain Doe.

Yes If you have Captain in your name box there will come a day when you are Addressed as "Vice Admiral Captain Doe"

However the Title you choose never comes up the never address you as "The Stalwart"

I fell foul of this when creating my KDF character. I wanted to call him Hothkar, Son of Ta'lon. Problem was, almost every NPC in the game started calling him Commander Son of Ta'lon, which didn't sound right at all!

This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!

Have you tried putting Hothkar in the Last Name box with Son of Ta'lon

    ie...

First: <Blank> Middle: <Blank> Last: Hothkar, Son of Ta'lon I"m not sure if there are character limits in the boxes.

It's worth a try. I have a Klingon BOFF on one of my Federation characters that I went with a different approach, where his name is First Name: Koragh, Middle Name: of the House of, Last Name: D'jin.

My 29th Century Klingon Starfleet character goes by Korax joH'a' vo'poH as his first, middle, and last name. Originally he was only called Korax, but then I came across some dialogue where NPCs were calling him Lt. Korax Korax! XD

There is an option in the name window called formal order. Set it to "last first middle," then put your name as the last name and "son of..." in the middle name and it should work correctly. AFAIK the game never calls you by your middle name.

I don't care what the NPCs call me as long as it isn't late for dinner. ;)
