I apologize in advance if this info is posted elsewhere, but I've spent an hour searching and couldn't find anything.
As we all know cannons fire a number of 'bolts' per weapon cycle. What I'd like to know is do cannons have the chance to crit/proc for every 'bolt,' or is that chance simply once per firing cycle?
Proc chances are misleading as there is a hidden factor that normalizes the number of procs over a period of time to be the same between at least dual cannons and dual heavy cannons and possibly other types.
It's each shot, which is one of the reasons why cannons are so much deadlier than beams.
Are you two sure about this? I was always under the impression it was by Cycle and not per-shot. I know Procs definitely are, but I'm pretty sure cannons are too.
Cannons are much deadlier than beams because they do more damage, more DPS, and they cycle quicker than beams.
I might well be wrong, but I'd like a source to back this up before relying on it!
One thing to remember, all damage weapons and skills get buffed by tac abilties. And this buffing creates that makes the damage so impressive, even if the base damage is just a little better of cannons compared to beams. The different translates into a much larger difference once the buffs get their part. And then you have the crits on top of that.

Kirk's Protege.
Crits - Per bolt
EDIT: Yes, I'm positive.
