Cardi/Romulan playable species

crusader2007crusader2007 Member Posts: 1,883 Arc User
From Dstahl own mouth...hot off the press:

We will get Cardi/Romulan playable species...does that mean a faction perhaps as well:

Q: (pegasussgc) I've seen several Romulan NPC's with the correct Romulan forehead detail and Cardassian NPC's with "Cardassian friendly" hairstyles, can you put these options in the game so we can make are Alien/Romulan or Alien/Cardassian characters more realistic?

Dstahl: These hairstyles and foreheads are specifically reserved for when we offer Romulans and Cardassians as playable species (which will happen) because they are defining characteristics of those species.

I know these will both probably be a long way off, but I'm glad to hear that these will both eventually be playable species.

Well it's good to know they're still got plans for them, though I would still settle for a combined Tal Shiar / Obsidian Order faction.

Big whoop, they'll probably just toss 'em both into the Fed and KDF factions, and they'll be another token playable species. The only real benefit might be from whatever inherent traits the species have.

Now, if there were confirmation of an actual faction being planned. . .that would be noteworthy news. As it is, I'm not terribly impressed by this. Cosmetically I supposed it'll be nice, but that's about it.

I really hope they'll make a species respec token when they become available. Most player have already done them using the "Alien" customization. A free respec token for every "alien" when they come out would be good, but a C-store item would be enough. If not overpriced.

In addition to playable species, what about BOff requisitions?

I know that the New Romulus Embassy has access to Romulan BOffs, but they aren't able to be outfitted in Starfleet or KDF uniforms.

Agreed, expect the bare minimum implementation, simply slapping them in the Fed and KDF list first, with faction "down the road" but never happening.

    You heard it here first.

I actually heard that looooooong ago, though have chosen to ignore it. I am hopeful of a third full faction, and as stated above, a merge of the Cardassians and Romulans if it'll get us that third faction.

we've heard that many times before. We are just still trying to explain Cryptic that they would have more revenue from a FACTION, than from a SPECIES.

Because i am pretty happy with my FAKE Romulans and Cardassians in the KDF, and will not lvl new toons just for their forehead.

to our previous discussion - i've been thinking and yes, i can imagine Roms and Cardies in one faction.. it would be pervers, but possible. Do you think CBS would approve?

Better than Romulans in the Federation. Tfui!

but i am afraid that is the way they are going to go. Feds get their cloaking devices, KDF gets nothing, but cross-faction ships, ... you can imagine..

And the TALE OF RATOR III stays a tale..

If it was specifically Tal Shiar and Obsidian Order, then I'd like to think CBS would approve. The two forces have joined together in the past for a common goal, and now they've got another common goal; power.

At the moment, neither the Cardassian Military or Romulan Military (what's left of it) is in a real state of power, and both forces do like their power. The two main species left that people want to play as are Romulan and Cardassian, and it's been said time and time again that most MMO's utilize three factions. At the moment, we seem to have a problem with two, thus the chances of us ever getting four... seems unlikely.

At least if these two were combined, firstly fans of both species would be pleased, secondly it would work (story wise) and thirdly, it would save a lot of time from the guys at Cryptic. Present us with that third faction, and you don't need to worry so much about people demanding the 4th. If they release a Romulan-only, people will be asking for Cardassians, if they release Cardassians, people will be asking for Romulans. If they release both, there isn't really another faction (in my mind) that people can be practical with asking for.

Any other Trek race should either be left as an NPC (Tholian, Sheliak, Undine) or incorporated into one of three factions. I made a whole list of reasons why this would work on my third faction thread, but I see this as the best, viable solution to the third faction problem.

Another poster once suggested the Typhon Pact as a playable race.

Would it be enough revenue for the cost, though? ROI.

Given KDF hasn't warranted a full faction (however you want to break down cause-effect), what makes you think Rom/Card would be any better?
