I've seen several post lamenting the fact that the KDF has no real answer to the Armitage (Heavy Escort Carrier). Since the fleet system arrived and showed that the devs would consider reusing older assets and since the K'Tanco isn't really seen in game with the KDF starting above the levels where you would use it, how about using a retrofitted K'tanco as a Battle Cruiser Carrier?
Stats: K'Tanco Retrofit Class Light Battlecarrier
The K'Tanco class was a smaller cruiser that saw limited engagement in the early stages of the Federation-Klingon War. The ever-crafty Qo'nos Shipyards have upgraded the basic K'Tanco space frame; however, the size of the K'Tanco limits its abilities as a fleet cruiser, so it has been retooled as a sturdy raptor-type vessel. The internal volume that was freed up by installing more modern systems has been allocated to a Hangar bay, allowing the retrofitted K'Tanco's to carry a single squadron of fighters (or any other non-Fek'lhri hangar item).
Wide-Angle Quantum Torpedo Launcher [Arc][Acc][CrtH] (the same torpedo as on the Regent, to provide a way for KDF Captains to acquire it)
Quantum Resonance Generator: Fires a Quantum Resonance Charge, deals no damage, but severely degrades a shield's performance (-50% Shield Damage Resistance for 10 seconds, magnitude boosted by flow capacitors, duration boosted by Aux power)
Fleet Version would add the standard +10% to Hull/Shield and +1 Eng Console
Now this is really just bouncing a idea of the wall, but what is everyone's thoughts on this? Too powerful? Too weak? A start at adding more KDF ship options? The KDF could use a tactical carrier, and it seems to be a shame to not use the K'tanco skin any more.
I would definitely like to see that space frame used at higher ranks. One of my favorites back in the early days when you could start a KDF captain at low levels.
They make a wondrous mess of things. Brave amateurs, they do their part.
Basic stats seem okay to me.
The K'tanco seems to be a more modern battlecruiser design so CBS should not have any problem with this one.
Aestetically it seems to be some kind of "missing link" between the Birds of Prey and the Raptors, personally I can't find much from a battle cruiser in this design aside from the torpedo launcher.
So I think the BO layout is okay too.
However with regards to the hangar I must say it feels weird.
Not because it would be technically overpowered but because the K'Tanco is probably the smallest "cruiser" in the game.
It's close to the K't'inga which is already smaller than the Miranda.
And while it seems that size is not such a big deal most of the time, when it comes to the ability to carry any larger number of smaller craft it gets problematic.
IMO, a hangar only makes sense on ships that are at least twice the size.:(
The torpedo launcher...well the Regent only has it since it has a very limited maneuverability.
The K'tanco has nearly twice the base turnrate and I must ask: would the Klingons build a weapon like this...for a ship like this?
Something that I believe is still missing from the game are Heavy Photon Torpedoes.
Both the K't'inga and the K'tanco have a hughe forward launcher that is at least two decks high.
And at least from the K't'inga we know the launcher is this big for a reason.
So why not give the K'tanco a larger more powerful Photon launcher?
The ship is certainly agile enough to get it into position without any problem.:)
