A short video featuring a BOP named after the fiercest terran mammal known, the Marmot!
Still using that tractor beam! There certainly are other options for that third LtCmdr slot but if you don't kill things and instead get killed a lot....what would those options be really?
Improved abandon ship?
I kid.

So watch the vid! It has sciencey magic in it from those new Vapid Class Wessels!
Cheers and happy flying!

Sure does. BO3 without was running around 75% hit rate last time I checked. And well it helps because if you're going to use TB anyway, you'll likely be waiting for your targets Omega and Tactical Team to drop off. So just by doing that your chances improve measurably. Well that and you want to be inside the 5k mark. So an awful lot has to come together in a little tiny window.
Little tiny window with a little tiny Marmot nosed pressed up against it! Awwww!
Cheers happy flying!

"What the heck is that?! >>> <<<"
Think about this:
American Football has been in open beta for 144 years. ~Kotaku
My stomach is clear and my mind is full of bacon!
i think a PSW would cancel that what the heck is that?! >>> <<< bubble, and with proper specing the stun might make it easier to insert maximum spike into someone all in that split second. i haven't seen that old bop tactic in quite a wile, but with the new skill try it might work again.
I was thinking with my Fleet Hoh'sus, I would switch out Polarized Hull for TB1.
Yes you could. I used to run that set up at times. And really that's why I consider what I'm doing with the Norgh nothing stellar or new. It's been done before! I do like the ships looks though and the lack of hull keeps things interesting!
DDIS I did try the shockwave, along with just about any other offensive ability in that slot. Shockwave really did hold the most promise for quick kills. Your thought of using that first for the disable is spot on. If they clear that, they sure as hell can't use TT and really by then it would be all over. Like you said though you would need to skill for that and I'm well out of tokens!
Cheers and happy flying!
I'll even be willing to volunteer as the guy that gets blown up. All for the sake of education.
Read the buffs accordingly. Don't alpha anyone with any movement buffs, if you attack anyone with anything that buffs their defense rating you'll just miss with your alpha.
Use that to your advantage when defending against alphas as well. Keep that devidian field modulator handy. It can increase misses from Escorts or Raiders.
Look at her videos to see what steps she takes. She uses HY3 and BO3. She'll fire her torps first then time the BO3 to hit right before the torps do.
Read my siglink and drunks thread for info on creating binds. If can facilitate creating a really efficient firing bind. The second Husanak escort thread link has good insight into binds as well.
And if you want something that can hang for a bit in a fight, and not just only have an alpha, you should probably try a 2 DHC, 1 Torp, 1 Beam Bank setup for the front. Husanak used that to great effect. The firing bind insight up to helps to that degree. You can put your Beam Bank on a separate key and prebuff BO3 or whatever and use it when they're the weakest. You'll damage their shields with RF and your DHC, then pump their hull with a TS or HY.
I remember when I started to aim for the 5 second gap in between Tac Team usage. Use that to your advantage. I still fly Klingon, but I'm more of a healer now. No one heals Klingon side.
The B'rel owns for doing attack runs because of how you can buff up with defensive buffs (putting up TSS2) before coming out of cloak. It's a lot easier than hitting everything you need while doing your alpha.
On defense:
You're not getting stunned by her alpha so for the love of god keep moving, BFI helps against torps, yeah ... it's not just a doff enhanced power. If there are Klingons holding and stunning, then have an Escort or Sci help you gut them.
Btw, learn to pan behind you or to the sides while piloting. Setting weapons to autofire is probably a good idea as well. You can focus more on piloting and situational awareness that way. It can also give you enough time to react to alphas.
That's how I managed to counter Kharn's alphas back when PSW would stun you for 3 seconds without team usage. I'd either evasive away and break the angles on his DHCs or I'd hit Tac Team immediately while having a defensive buff or two up. The thing is that Kharn was ridiculous at his attack approach, so usually it'd be too late for most when he decloaked. You'd never hear him buffing up sloppily like most Klingons out there. He'd just zoom in and blow **** up.
If I got PSWed then I would turn my ship a bit (you could still steer your ship a bit while stunned), and with that I could break the angle enough on his DHCs to avoid the nasty part of his alpha and hopefully get past the 3 second stun to get defensive. That's why you want a good hold with the tractor beam if possible, it makes it harder to turn that bad facing away.
This is exactly why you don't use things like cannons for a Decloak Alpha.
And really the first thing you do if you want something that can hang in a fight is get something like a raptor. Then you can do that other stuff.
Cheers happy flying!
You could drop the TB3 to TB2 and add a PSW for the interupt/evsavies counter or SS so any repair/resist they toss has a change of landing elsewhere. There's always VM w/doffs as well. I'd go w/the PSW if you have some decompiler skill points. Or if you really want to be an not so nice person AMS, TB, Torps, BO, PSW.

This is an excellent idea. I would love to see video from many good and great players.
All of which could be given to the PvP boot camp. Add a detailed step by step voice over for easy learning.
Not just DBB/Torp builds but other set-ups as well and not just Tac alphas but also Sci and Eng...
R.I.P
There's 2 basic phases 1st target selection 2nd attack run combo.
For the 1st phase generally:
1. Defenses just ran out. Look at things like TT timer, Captain ability timer, RSP timer, etc
2. No Defenses up.
3. Minimal defenses up. Things like EPTS, but no TT. Or TT, but no shield resist/regen buffs.
4. Wounded. Often a BO can pierce an low shield w/low resists using RSP. If the hull is low enough it's worth a shot.
Also things like:
1. Is the target distracted or not? If it's engaged and slows down to maintain weapon arc, that's a good target.
2. What is the target's likely movement/boff capabilities?
3. Is the target alone?
For the 2nd phase generally:
1. Apply debuffs.
2. Apply spike damage.
3. Have escape preplanned, boffs/doffs/consoles/devices/direction/power level changes.
I'd recommend for the 2nd phase not automating step 3 and leaving TT out of any automation for step 2. The reason being you may need ET or ST to get out. This is important for arena vs a good team w/Sci support. You may be able to count on allies for ET and ST if you're premade, but pugging you should have the ability to swap them in. I'd also hold off on GDF from any automatation you use w/keybinds. Imo, it's better to be selective and get more out of it.
From there you can get into things like feigning an alpha on 1 target then switching to another depending on how things go, or a quick run to lose FF and return to fight w/a followup alpha w/a nice GDF boost.

That being said, other people may not understand the elegant execution of a BOP Alpha Strike and likely will require a visual step by step demonstration.
Who better to do this video with funny commentary as Thissler?
You don't need a video commentary to learn how to do an alpha.
Besides, it's not like it is hard to watch the current videos and see what they are doing. They are in high quality and high res.
Do you think every person that got good at this game had one ready? Don't be lazy.
Just learn to read the defender. Practice your alpha and attack on NPCs if you want to get a handle of your binds and timing.
Keep it simple. You don't need an absurd checklist to learn when to attack.
^^ Agreed on learning how to fly the normal escorts first.
I actually started on the Defiant.
With all due respect and in Cliftons defense, when a great part of the playerbase is so poor at achieving the basics in pvp and cry foul, cheat or OP instead, such a instructional may be needed.
R.I.P
I myself don't need this instructional video. I know my problems can all be fixed with practice. Which is what I am doing now.
I'm mainly advocating it for all the other would be BOP jockeys so they can do the ship class justice.
I love your sig.
and TY all for watching!
To all who may be discussing or reading about the "How2Alpha" video. That really was a question I posed on my YouTube Channel, not really for here. There's a few hours of STO video up there now. I would say that most of the videos have Lulz built into them, but they aren't the 'LOL U SUCK' kind. I do point out almost each time what is going on, why things seem to work so easily, and why at times nothing seems to work at all.
The idea for a new video was really just to update and consolidate some older vids I've done and represent some basic defensive and offensive techniques to people that may wish to view it. Plus I'd like to point out that some of my videos include table dancing.
How can that be bad?
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEEFBCB5E088B924C&feature=plcp The originals.
Here are some more favorites. Sans dancing girls.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLiHDyM7xys This guy was great. Went back and forth from being absolutely on top of his game, to being cannon fodder. Or was it the cat that was great? You decide.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfB7f3eKmuA My favorite big boned cruiser in action! The actual PVP starts six minutes in if you wish to skip the workout.
So anyways.....there is a lot up there to debunk the "OMG magic abilities everyones a hacker!!" feeling that people can get. So if you are getting PM's or see that in zone chat, link a video. Free resource for you to use. People like videos. And funny. Put the two together and BAMMO!!:)

Those crybabies would just blame something else. They first have to come to terms with the knowledge that they aren't good at the game. That takes growing up and a losing a bit of ego.
I think thissler's videos are good enough as is to show how to conduct one type of alpha strike. She even outlines some of the strategies in her videos. I've seen most of 'em. They are hilarious and one of the good things to come from this game.
