We all know what this is about, right?
So, ask yourself this simple scorecard and rate your honest commitment on a virtual scale of your commitment to the longevity of PvP.
- I actively seek out to exploit powers when I know that they are currently deemed as broken, and go to great lengths to justify them as ok, both to myself and others.
- I use console powers not necessarily because of their damage potential which I know is not great, but the unintended side effects of lag they do cause to another player.
- "I" must survive.
- I would rather save that HE for myself that extend it to a team mate.
- I spawn camp before moving away, not allowing the other side to advance.
- When someone brutally kills me, I insult them via PM or zone chat, instead of PM them afterwards to congratulate them.
- I find it easier to blame the devs for the system, but am still quite "innocent", happily running three SNB (take your pick) doffs.
Scary looking in the mirror? I know I was.

PaxOttomana: gawd mirror event is like fighting a tsi premade, they keep comin and comin!
Yes.
No.
Of course.
No, teamwork is required to win a match.
Happens.
I don't PM anyone after a match sorry.
I don't blame the devs for that, I'm happy with my one or two SNB doffs allowing me to debuff tacs thinking they play in god mode.
That's not scary, I still think that what you call an "exploit" can be used by anyone. Tric mines aren't expensive at all, graviton pulse consoles are under 1M on the exchange, and a SNB doff is one week of work in farming areas to buy.
Anyway, you make weird confusion. Why someone looking for a victory would ignore any kind of teamplay or would insult someone else? I don't get it.
I noticed that stun/placate abilities (aka science ones) could make others very aggressive, because they can't play the game, and I often get insulted when i use specific combos, consoles or builds, but most of the times i answer them with a feedback pulse, it's way more efficient than insults.
God, lvl 60 CW. 17k.
and i wait for targets to wander in front of my dual heavy cannons so they die.
have fun kill bad guys!
ps.... ive been known to coach anyone who asks how to have fun and be a better pilot....just reach out to @CaptainHorizon in game!
2 - I use the subspace jump console or isometric charge, depending on what situation I'm in. But I never use them to cause lag, as I get enough of that. Heck, I usually end up causing my game to freeze up by using some powers and consoles.
3 - Well of course.
4 - I can't really answer this one since I rarely do team PvP, and because my game lags so I can't target an ally in time to use the HE. But if I can, I try to send HE to someone who's hull is getting dangerously low or being eaten by plasma fire.
5 - I'm against spawn camping, but on occasion in Kerrat I do sometimes repeatedly target the other faction after we've broken their spawn camp. But I don't join in on an actual camp.
6 - I don't even insult or say mean things to other players to begin with, after being killed I usually just respawn and go mindlessly throw myself back at the same person. And end up getting killed again.
7 - I don't blame the devs for the system, as I don't really know how PvP is broken (I know it is, but just not what it is that's broken exactly). I also don't use SNB or siphon drones.
Not very scary looking in the mirror.
2. I don't understand this question.
3. Yes, otherwise I'm useless.
4. I try to give others heals when they need it.
5. I am guilty of spawn camping in C&H.
6. I say "GG", I don't insult other players
7. No, not at all.
No, I even quit using the Plasmodic Leach and Aceton Assimilators when I found out they were not balanced.
No, I even quit using the Plasmodic Leach and Aceton Assimilators when I found out they were not balanced.
Not if my death means the team is in a better position.
No, an HE shared especially with the right player who needs it could be the difference between winning and loosing.
No, spawn camping is fun for no one. I like a challenge, even when I lose. I have been known to back away from a spawn point when the opponent had a bad habit of lingering there too long.
No, I holler out in chat Nice!, Good shot, GG, Sweet!, Congratz!, or I keep my mouth shut. Though I have on occasion slipped, (thinks of Greenlightracer and StarDagger). I am human after all.
The only thing I blame the Devs for is imbalance and neglect. Otherwise I seek to improve my game.
Wow looking in that mirror was boring.
Nope. I've even stopped using powers because they've become broken.
Nope, I only use consoles in PvE
Well kind of yeah, since if I die the other team gets a point.
I always cross heal, unless I'm the one getting fired at.
Nope.
I'd never insult someone for defeating me. That said I generally don't congratulate them either, but that's mostly due to being lazy.
Nope.
Daizen - Lvl 60 Tactical - Eclipse
Selia - Lvl 60 Tactical - Eclipse
I have yet to use any kind of exploit....
2. I use console powers not necessarily because of their damage potential which I know is not great, but the unintended side effects of lag they do cause to another player.
sometimes I use consoles but limit myself to no more than 2 (would be 3 but one of those consoles is the borg one and it does nothing but boost my power levels at the moment) Do I do it to cause lag ? no
3. "I" must survive.
I must survive as long as I can to give my team mates a chance at victory
4. I would rather save that HE for myself that extend it to a team mate.
if I am not the focus of the attack then here have an HE, a Science Team and a TSS...
5. I spawn camp before moving away, not allowing the other side to advance.
nope I immediately throw myself back into the fight
6. When someone brutally kills me, I insult them via PM or zone chat, instead of PM them afterwards to congratulate them.
no again when someone brutally kills me I ask them how they did it so I can understand what happened and better prepare myself in the future
7. I find it easier to blame the devs for the system, but am still quite "innocent", happily running three SNB (take your pick) doffs.
why blame the devs they are not the ones happily running the 3 SNB (take your pick) doffs
man looking in the mirror Im a pretty vanilla PVP player
I.R.W. Raptor's Claw
Storm Eagle Class Warbird Fleet Ha'feh
I have never trusted humans, and I never will
No, I dropped scramble and anything else I hear is broken
I use Subspace-Jump Fed side and Plasmonic (since it got nerfed) on the Red side.
I almost always play healer/support. So its a judgement call if me staying alive is more important. Theres some people who arent worth healing as in, their setup is too squishy and they still die. And some cases where you give everything you can to keep someone alive. Especially in PUGs, the other team wont switch targets fast enough, so you can stack buffs on one or two targets.
Ill move
I wont insult them, but Ill declare their victory on all the broken stuff they are using.
I blame the devs. I think my worst sin is Plasmonic.
If you manage to die after I give you an AP: Delta + Fermion Field + TSS 3 + SciTeam 3 + HE 2 + Aux to SIF 1 + SciFleet because you refuse to balance your shields... you're going to die no matter what I do. I'd rather heal someone that has a chance of doing something. You're probably helping our team more by waiting out the respawn timer and attempting to rejoin the fight than sitting there soaking up heals and buffs.
1-i dont activly seek out exploits, i'm generally using the same setup since launch of the game. flavored with some consoles from ships. my favorite console by far is still the tachyon detection grid (dispite how useless it is)
2- again, the console tactyon detection grid. i alwasy get a chuckle when i lag my own team mates with it :P
3-of course "I" must survive, without me the team is down a man and i cant expect them to keep me alive without my attempting to do so.
4- that depends on how often i've seen them heal themselves. i usually carry enough heals to get me by (with my current build).
5- "spawn camping" is a relative term. it depends on if they've even moved by the time i get there. its just as easy to move away from the spawn as it is to move to the spawn.
6-i usually get ignored after recieving a nasty insult... so i never get a chance to insult them or congradulate them either way.
7-i blame the devs for the state of the game, and even if all the things i use were to be heavy nerfed (grav pulse comes to mind) i'd still use it because its a part of the build im currently using.
Do you even Science Bro?
2, na, I surprise myself by running clean. unless you count skull fighters on my recluse
3, well, its always nice.
4, when I drop extend and transfer plus hull heals and that BoP hits battle cloak, yeah Ill save stuff.
5, yeah sometimes, if they aren't smart enough to move away at the start, then they never had a chance
6, na, I trash talk in kerrart, best part of being there. Not so much in arenas.
7, well they tend to fix things that didn't need it, or break things for no apparent reason. And I dont even know what these ss doffs are called. I also am not a huge fan of VM + doffs, so I dont run that either.
I guess culprit in a few areas, I suck though, dont hate
Nope, I try not to do this, unless they're being used on me.
I use console powers not necessarily because of their damage potential which I know is not great, but the unintended side effects of lag they do cause to another player.
Nope, not this. If I did, they would probably cause more lag to me than to others.
"I" must survive.
Of course I'll try to keep myself alive, don't want to give the opposing team another kill. Or am I missing the point here?
I would rather save that HE for myself that extend it to a team mate.
Here it depends. I default to using it on others, but if 3-quarters of the match goes on with my HE not helping or not getting a single thing in return, well, chances are reduced. TRIBBLE for tat.
I spawn camp before moving away, not allowing the other side to advance.
Here, I'll try and wait for a decent amount of time at the centre of the map. If I proceed to sensor range of your spawn and see people AFK or having the full team there and making no effort to move, I am going to move in.
When someone brutally kills me, I insult them via PM or zone chat, instead of PM them afterwards to congratulate them.
I usually just stay quiet, but sometimes I speak up in zone chat to compliment them.
I find it easier to blame the devs for the system, but am still quite "innocent", happily running three SNB (take your pick) doffs.
I am going to criticize the devs for some shortcomings in the system, but I'm not going to run stuff I see/the community sees as broken.
Nope.
Nope (and I still hate how Temp stuff others use causes me to desync).
Lol...me survive? Er, but nope.
Are they distributing? If not, it would be a waste.
Are they rock 'n rolling on DPS or heals? I'll throw them everything I got before I go boom.
Generally speaking, nope. In Ker'rat, if I'm fired on while trying to leave the KDF spawn on a Fed after a broken restart - I will return fire. It's not a case of sticking around though - either they die and I go about my business or I die and I go about my business.
I rarely congratulate anybody. GG's are extremely rare. I never PM (and they can't PM, I run hard anon through the privacy settings). I only complain if somebody brags after using a truckload of cheese. I have apologized to the other team when they've had AFKers.
I blame the devs. It's hard not to blame the devs. I don't run XYZ though. So I'm entirely fine with blaming the devs.
These are all mostly from the perspective of my B'rel.
1. Well, actively? I dunno, I try not to. I use SS 1 on my B'rel, not for the confusion or anything else, but to hide mines and torpedoes when I fire them off. But not to purposefully exploit it. Heck, if someone asked me to take it off because of a potential bug/exploit, I would, as long as it was for a reason, and not just whining.
2. No, I own few to none of those consoles which could cause that problem, and again, would not use it purposefully to lag someone out. I only use an Impulse Burst on my B'rel to run like mad when I get de-cloaked.
3. Yes, but I will do so in my own way, by staying cloaked.
4. I usually do Ker'rat or pug queues, but if I am in range and someone is taking heavy fire, I will heal if I can spare it.
5. If you mean killing people after a restart in Ker'rat, then yes. If not, no. To me, there's no fun at all in spawn camping. I will kill AFKers for easy kills though, especially to finish a match and move on for all parties.
6. If I got de-cloaked and killed, I got caught, so I accept that. I don't keep Zone chat on, ever, anywhere.
7. It is easy to blame the devs for anything, I'm guilty of that quite often. I run no SNB DOFFs, can't use em on a torp boat, wouldn't even if I did have them. I may defend tric mines rather often, but I do understand how they can be extremely frustrating to any one getting killed by em, to the point that if they took a nerf hit, I may not like it, but I could understand it.
I am glad to see that the common impression is that most of the die-hard PvPers out there, are out to have a great time!
I created this post not to accuse or blame, but rather to just make people think about their game style. I for one have dropped using powers that reduce other players enjoyment of PvP, because I realize that my own enjoyment has a symbiotic affect on theirs, and vice versa.
Captains, we are all sailing on the sea of our own fortune, but find ourselves on the same deck so to speak.
All I want to highlight is that when you are playing, consider how your game play might contribute to the ultimate victory that is there to be had.
This is a call to arms. A revival of PvP - as we once remembered it.
If it's Ker'rat.. And there's some particularly "mouthy" feds/KDF....What's good for the goose is good for the gander, since if I'm on my KDF toon, I fully expect to be Spawn Camped 89% of the time I'm there. And no, I don't feel bad for that. Nor do I expect people to do the same either.
How ever, considering the state of the current game play, my desire to even fly to Ker'rat has dropped considerably. I haven't even logged on my precious KDF toons since Season 7.. Figured Once I reach Tier 5 and have all the stuff I want on one toon, I'll move to a KDF toon.
Think about this:

2. No
3. Yes
4. I am not good at sharing my heals but do have two hazard emitters on a few of my builds that I give out sometimes (don't having healing builds yet).
5. Try not to but may do so on occasions when not thinking
6. Quite the opposite
7. This is somewhat like point 1, I don't blame devs just they focused on non PvP aspects of the game ealier on.
1. No. I do not use broken stuff but I have no problems using some p2w like leech. I have my own morals on what I use. I stay away from certain consoles and I do not use broken stuff like the TBR bug or voldi.
2. I never cause lag intentionally.
3. Yes and no. Survival is important in the arena, I don't care that much about dying in cnh. But even in the arena most of the time I don't even try run. I stay, fight, use my heals and if it is not enough I die.
4. Depends on the situation and what I am playing. As a healer I generally heal everybody. In an escort I am more focused on killing. Most of the time I only share heals if I know my team or if we have voice chat and someone asks for help.
Also there are players that are not worth healing. If someone doesn't even distribute shields and doesn't use epts... Most of the times I try anyway at first, but sometimes trying to heal them results in more deaths because the heals are on cd and someone who could be saved dies because of it.
5. I try not to spawn camp. But it is often damn hard against fed as a klink. They just refuse to leave the spawn no matter what. You can fly at normal impulse speed the whole way to their spawn and often nobody moved.
6. No. But if someone insults me I might be tempted to make a little fun of him.
7. The devs give us the system we have to work with. We can offer feedback, try to set up our own rules but in the end we are bound to what they give us.
Now in a quite popular book it says: "And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also."
Which is a load of TRIBBLE in my opinion. I am more the eye for an eye kind of guy. While I still have my morals and refuse to use everything at my disposal I still use some of the toys cryptic gives me. In a private match (if we get those back) I am ok with no consoles rules and such but in the queues I will use some of my toys.
And honestly, the game would be rather boring with no changes. Nothing is ever new in pvp, all we get are more ships and consoles. At least it gives you something to do, new builds to try, new ships to fly.
My stomach is clear and my mind is full of bacon!
Quick question. Haven't they fixed how consoles were affecting TBR?
My stomach is clear and my mind is full of bacon!
Ah thanks, I thought so. You had me second guessing myself there for a minute.
I avoid using broken powers as much as possible and wish the game would stop breaking them so often.
I live and play in lagg why would I wish that upon another. No, I use consoles for thier abilities not how they may disable the game. That is the objective......
Too late. I have already used it on others.
In Ker'rat I shoot as soon as I see the phasers fly.......
No, I do not.
I do blaim them for the issue we have such as lack of KDF development, no PvP development and other bugsthat would I can only imagine would not be ingame if the team focused on balance as much as quick profit.
Looking back into the missdeeds of one past is always scary. Though I've been forgiven those a long time ago.

Never. I avoided consoles for so long when they were broken.
Nope. See above. A victory gained through glitching is not a victory at all.
Not always. I'd rather throw all of my heals on a teammate than to save myself and prolong the inevitable. Especially if said teammate can be more useful to the team at that point.
I mainly play a healer. Those aux heals are generally hands off unless I'm the only one being focused.
Nah, but I've been in games where the opposition is so meek and reserved, that our team keeps inching closer and closer to the spawn, that we have no choice. They won't move away from the spawn either. Probably dilithium farmers.
I try to limit my use of chat to team chat or perhaps a 'gg' after the game, if I felt like it was.
We all know dicks like these. I could outfit several ships with SNB doffs if I wanted to. Only lamesauce PvEers like some who post here use those doffs, or small-sacked pansies who can't handle timing buffs or teamwork to get kills.
:P
That one used to lag me, but now it seems to be OK.
In all honesty though, the reason I run plain bog standard stuff is mostly a selfish one: using gimmick or "broken" builds doesn't help me improve at the game. That's all I want to do, and every game I fly, with a pug or a friend or in a team, I'm constantly thinking about ways to improve, to get better uptime, better numbers, etc.
If I relied on a gimmick build, there's no real guarantee that things won't change (as they very often do in STO without warning) and I'd have to either find something else or resign myself to the fact that my ship was nothing without the gimmick.
I also just don't really want to use anything I wouldn't want used on me. I never went to Sunday school but I've read the sides of matchbox packets so I do know a lil thing or two about my moral parables.
