Vesta and Odyssey

Greetings,

I am a returning player trying to get back into the swing of things, and I'm having alt-itis with regards to which ship to concentrate on. I recently got the Vesta ships, and they seem pretty versatile and I feel like I have tricks up my sleeve for any situation. I'm also thinking about the Odyssey ships as well, as I'm an ENG toon and I've always played and enjoyed the big cruisers.

How do these ships compare in terms of STF performance? Is one clearly a superior ship to the other? I don't plan on doing much PVP so I'm more concerned with getting a great PVE ship together, and any feedback/suggestions about how these two ships compare would be appreciated.

Are you going to run STFs? You have some flexibility in both vessels.

The Odyssey Class starships are tanks! But do you want to be a tank towards ENG/SCI/TAC?

I bought the 3 pack and usually run the Tac Odyssey myself. Lt. Cmd uni and Ens Uni make it... fun. But you can't turn this ship... that's the downside. It's the largest cruiser Starfleet has ever built. But you can hull tank... and with such a large crew, you need to repair the ship as long as you can keep the crew alive. Or just get the Ops Odyssey for saucer separation.

The Vesta Class starships are high end sci ships! Same question: do you want a sci oriented ENG/SCI/TAC?

I only bought the Tac Vesta this time since I also bought the Steamrunner Class pack at the same time. Vestas can mount cannons but only 3 fore/ 3 aft weapons. It has a hanger bay... so that's good for crowd control with Danube Class runabouts or glass DPS fighters like the Peregrine Class fighters. Lt. Cmd and Ens uni slots are there for your builds.

As engineers, you can tank in both ships. Remember... T5 escorts are also fun as an engineer. My Joined Trill flew the Steamrunner Class as it's very tanky and is a Fleet vessel minus the name (10 consoles, same hull as Heavy Destroyers, has 2 Lt. Eng BOFF slots).

If you already own the Vesta pack, there isn't much reason to buy the Odyssey unless you want the absolute tankiest ship possible and are willing to give up the Vesta's better speed and weaponry for slightly more durability. If the universals are set to engineers, combined with the Vesta's better shield modifier, its pretty tough in its own right. And STFs don't really require tanking except for Hive Elite anyways.

Why is that even a question? It's simple. Newer = better. Newer ship? Vesta. Vastly superior to Odyssey? Vesta. If you have the Vesta 3 pack already, you needn't bother with the Oddy 3 pack.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once. B)
