Identity crisis. Am I crazy?

So, at s7 launch, I like many many others purchased a vesta cruiser. My toon is an eng (although I am working on a sci toon for later).

At first I flew it 'as intended' at full aux, with the aux phaser cannons and the deflector phaser, but as I(like many others) chose to get just one(the tac variant) for 25 bucks instead of getting the bundle, that left me with all of my other weapons being practically useless.

So here is what I have done.

I shelved the consol and the aux phasers and instead mounted my mark 12 borg tet dhcs and my mark 12 borg tet turrets. In addition, I mounted one turn rate modifier consol in eng along with a nuetronium to buff the thin hull a bit. I have a tac with two crf skills (1 and two) in the universal slot, as well as my other lt tac with tac team and apb.

So now it flys like a patrol escort, minus one dhc and one commander level tac skill.

I started by mounting my 2pc omega 1 pc maco(shields) but switched to the full (mk11) borg set. Why? With the vestas high shield modifier, even the borg shield gives decent shield thickness, but with 4 shield regen consoles(sorry, the exact console name escapes me, please bear with me) plus the insane shield regen inherent to the borg shields, they regen almost as fast as they can be stripped, and with smaller enemies(upto to and including spheres) the regen outworks the damage, almost like Im not being shot at all.

Then there is the hangars. Swapped out the shuttles for fighters. Got aux batteries running to fire off grav wells(which even at full weapon power hold enemies pretty well, even if they dont go boom)

So What I have is effectively an escort with one less cannon, made up for with insane shields, borg procs (which on a ship with lesser shield modifier/sci consoles wouldn't be practical), sci grav magic and a compliment of 6 fighters.

Has anyone else done something similar with their vesta? I have not died in an estf since I implemented this build.

    I too shelved the cannons , and went with 4 beam arrays , 2 forwards , 2 back , along with the tholian thermionic torp up front , and a tricobalt launcher in back

    Odd i know , but theres just something about phaser arrays on fed ships , just seems wrong not to use them
    console wise , i went for a full on gimmick ship lol
    aside from the phaser relays in tactical , everything else is a universal console
    ideally i play the support role , throw down gravity wells , themionic torpedo with hi-yield 3, tractor repulsor stuff into them , lay down theta radiation clouds etc , basically just gather stuff up for it to be dps'd down by the other ships , the advanced Danubes help this by occasionally holding stuff in place that little bit longer
    yes it doesnt alleviate the weak hull , yes its shields arent as strong as they could be , but its great fun to play
    basically the ship can do almost anything depending what build you give it

    Well, this isn't so much of a gimmick thing as an attempt at a viable build. I am really waiting for some pro to come along and tell me why its the worst thing since AIDS.

    nono , i was saying mines a gimmick :p your build seems really effective to be honest

    and as for the ' pro ' take on things , as long as you enjoy it , what does it matter ;)

    I'm not such an egomaniac as to not take experienced players advice under consideration. I have gained the most in this game not from people saying 'hey cool' but from people saying' idiot, your doing it all wrong!'

    Nah, this is actually how I envisioned the ship when I first saw the specs. I'm not a big fan of fluff ball consoles taking up multiple slots, and the Vesta has a very nice BO and console layout. Klingons do something similar with the Fleet Tor'kaht, although it has an engineering lean.

    I'd recommend going with scatter volley instead of rapid fire, with that sort of tank, you should be able to handle the extra threat that scatter generates.
