Welcome to online video games. This type of behavior is not exclusive to STO and in fact is much worse in many other games.

3 doesn't bother me in the least. It's PvP. Goading the enemy into making mistakes is a valid tactic.

2 always kind of makes me chuckle. Nothing screams a complete lack of understanding of the game like some of the things that come out of number 2.

1...1... yeah, I've had to apologize for my reaction to number 1 a few times.

Lately ive been running into alot of awful and bad players, both klink and fed side and i must admit its getting bad. So i was wondering what sort of behaviour is accepted and not accepted ingame. Frankly ive come across these which is annoying me to some extent:

    1. The braggers. The ones who will constantly brag that their the best, but in reality have no skill whatsoever. Examples are people who use exclusivly p2w stuff to win, or use cheap tactics.

    2. The accusers. There are always those who accuse X person of cheating. Unfortuantly many hasnt grasped all the abilties and skills one has at its disposal and gets carried away when ones ship goes bom very easy.

    3. The smacktalkers. The ones who flames and tries to trigger from others a quarrel or flamefest. Never good, and never ends good. These are pherhaps the ones i despise the most, and if i could without breaking the EULA would makes a name and shame list of.
On the otherhand there must be a fine line between friendly banter and downright hostility.

Offcourse everything one needs to do is simply ignore, but this is a growing problem. So what are peoples thoughts on this?

Define 'cheap' tactics. For example, there are Feddies who would probably make the argument that decloak-alphastriking (a tactic that myself and other BoP and Raptor pilots make an art of) is a 'cheap' or 'dirty' trick. . .when it really is all about timing skill and knowing when to attack. Others like to 'mention' that they got focused on by 3-5 attackers (these claimants are usually zombie cruisers, in my experience) insinuating it was 'unfair' or 'cowardly'.

    So please. . .clarify.

Ha. I've used fireworks in a Cap n Hold after defending a base solo vs. 3 Klinks. They had me down to 20% hull, I popped Go Down Fighting and RSP and killed them all shortly after. Sometimes you just gotta celebrate :D

Ill take some past cheap tactics like VM+SNB, FBP+RSP and chain PSW someone to death.
These days all it takes is one escort with a sci captain, sub nuke the poor player, and sci team is likely spent. Then grav pulse and pew him down as he is helpless to do anything. Cheap and skilless.

As for the decloaking alpha strikes one can ask if its balanced for one player to destroy a ship in such an "easy" fashion. Its as mindless and unfun as tric mining someone to death or using the sub nuke doff for an easy and cheap win.

But i guess the cloak is the klinks prerogative, but mostly a gimmicky thing. Sure its useful as heck in kerrat and cap`n holds, where alot is going on and the victim cant always be aware that a sneaky bop or raptor is ready to alpha the poor ship down. But then again these players would seldom or NEVER set foot in arena pvp, cause cloak is useless and hence the alpha strike neutralized. But then said klinks will only resort to another cheap tactic called an energy drain team build. Oh what lengths, espeically those payed for, people are wiling to go to for the sake of winning

    Clarified enough?

One could consider the bug ship cheap and skilless. Especially when it had fleet shields and hull before anyone without that kind of ship was able to grind themselves into a position to acquire one. Any c-store ship could be considered cheap and skilless against a player who may neither have the time nor the money to procure a similar ship of their own in the short term of a new ships release. Particularly when that ship has skills that add more heals or invulnerability in some form for whatever amount of time.

I just thought I might add those. You're absolutely right Devoras. I will say the cheap and skilless is a matter of perspective. Even doffing cannot escape the filthy brand of cheap and skilless with what the system has allowed players to do in pvp. *Points at an on-duty Subnucleonic Officer*. But ultimately the blame is not their own. In my opinion players 1-3 as you have described may be more easily defeated by their own ignorance if we had a pvp system actually balanced towards individual player skill and overall team ability. Of which from the start fleets like T.S.I. have exemplified. And yet even T.S.I. used broken skills in the past. We all have. From 15 second rsp's to 100% Accurately Targeting Fire at Will's. I blame Cryptic. So should everyone else.

And in the meantime we should adhere to the same etiquette we might adhere to in real life. On a soccer field after school. Or on a 24hr. Fitness basketball court before heading home for the night. RESPECT. That's what players 1-3 lack. Perhaps they will never learn. But the best course for the rest of us is to cling tightly to our morals. We must not let go of our etiquette. And for anyone who says you or I take the game too seriously with posts or responses like ours I would respond.... I take the game with a grain a salt. But I will always take people very seriously. Out of respect for who they are and what they believe. I would hope those same people would show me the same courtesy. And in the words of a great man....

A bug can always be corrected, but yes exploiters should maybe be added as another nusiance.

But oh, our premade ran into a few allright! Fleet Defiant with multiple copies of VM for instance! But we dealt them swift justice, and made "fun" of them after. I guess they learned from it that cheating gets you nowhere.

Would finding a broken mechanic within the system like FAW's old 100% accuracy, testing and proving how broken it is, and then proceeding to dominate the queue's for about a month with two escorts running it along with a couple of cruiser fawboats melting entire teams to death with broken aoe beam damage be considered kind of cheap? I remember a dominate pvp fleet doing things like that in the past...

As far as that fleets stance would be, if the things you describe in this quote are OP or broken, then more teams should be running it to prove to everyone how broken it is to encourage change.

Exactly! But question is will Cryptic do something about it, and maybe most importantly of all, will players be willing to give up their toys to promote change?

Well, TSI in the past has ENCOURAGED the use of broken abilities to promote change while other fleets have done the opposite to promote change. I will say that I believe TSI had a big part in FAW getting changed thanks to the testing done to prove how broken it was. I however do not believe them beating down other teams in the queues for the next month with that broken ability had much to do with it. It seemed to hurt pvp more during that time than help. I remember nights where I didnt want to queue back up because of you guys. Our team could have done the same TRIBBLE I suppose, but you had proven through testing it was broken, and providing the same awful experience to other pugs in the we'd meet in the queue's by using a broken ability didn't seem like it was worth it.

First off, I like your Quote about Mini and D&D. Awesome!

    Now to on topic..

I'm not much of a fan of the "Tasteless" stratigies that gets used in terms of things like some of the Pay to Grief Consoles from a full premade, or nearly full premade. And their entire stratigy is revolved around that. And then they also cause Flame wars because of the type of Grief that it causes.

Smacktalking doesn't bother me much. Probobly due to being desensitised from Ker'rat. Play in Ker'rat for about 6 months straight and you'll understand what I mean. :P

PVErs who are full of themselves because their Fleet just beat STF X in Y time then goes into PVP Expecting to win, but gets roffle stomped and cries for Nerfs and Bug abusage, also bothers me.

Feds who complain the KDF ships are OP...Especially the BoP....

Some one mentioned fire works = Teabagging.. Sure I can see that. I'll roll my eyes at the screen but I won't full on nerd rage over it.

But the ONE thing that absolutely and completely ticks me off is when I see this:

    <logoutloser> has logged out.

I don't care if it's on the team I'm on, or the opposing team. It's just a tasteless thing, one that, from what I've witnessed, 99% of the MMO's I've been apart of use a penalization for...weither it's 30 seconds of still being logged in, or other wise.. and STO STILL doesn't have this kind of penality. And it bothers me MORE when people actually ABUSE this.. And they, and some of you out there, know who those people are.

If players were willing to give up their toys to promote change, undoubtedly we would be singing koom-bai-yah on the subject right about now. But some how I don't hear anyone singing. So no one will give up their toys today. And at the end of the day it is a prescription for the problem. Not a cure. And not a solution players should be responsible for in the first place.

This one for sure! This crap has been going of forever and despite all the discussions of how we "could" fix it, not a damn thing has been done about it still. The other jerks are the gold farming afk'ers. How long do we really have to wait for change on things like this that completely ruin an arena?

there is no such think as p2w in STO. I own a battlebug, the sao paolo with quad cannons, the defiant refit, the fleet version of this baby and much more and i bought all those without paying a single dollar. i did for other stuff but if you want, you can get everything for free by grinding dilithium and that is hard work. where is your p2w now? do i have to care if others dont wanna grind? i dont think so.

If somebody had not bought the Zen or Cryptic Points for you to exchange the Dil you ground - you could not have done what you did... just because you did not pay a single dollar for it does not mean somebody else did not.

Actually, when you take a look at the conversion rates, etc - take into consideration the amount of time you spent grinding that Dil and what that worked out to be as an hourly rate...

...yeah, I'm not sure I'd go around bragging about that.

    Just saying. :)
