Cryptic - separate STO-PvP Game??

In last months (11) of constant degradation of PvP I started to wonder - would it be really that hard to make separate PvP game out of STO? You have everything ready, just set up server for it and start it.

My idea is to take current STO, scrap all the P2W things that were introduced - lockbox ships, equipment sets, C-Store items, DOFFs - everything. Keep just the plain, base game. Make it subscription based and here you are. Relatively good space PvP game that is founding itself.

You could use the income from subscriptions to make additions and rebalance/fix things without any sort of influence on main game income. And if those fixes would be working there should be no problem of implementing them on main STO game (assuming you made the programing in half decent way).

I think a lot of those players that migrated to MWO and other games would've returned in such case - and payed you real money. Steady income from a game created with minimal investment, free platform for fixes (players pay with subs for them) and testing mechanics for main game. Think about it.

Ok, I know I'm dreaming, but it would be soooooooo coooooool to have such game for PvP.

This would involve work. And more importantly this would involve work that would directly improve PvP, and that's just not going to happen.

Pre-s4 (if not earlier) base FTW less the smelly shield glitch and voldemort. No lock box/c-store ships either. Just the base T5 refits. No Aegis/Borg. Would be awesome but won't happen. The skill tree is somewhat okay verse having to spec a certain ship/weapon type.

Unless all it involves is a few flicking of switches, nothing PvP related will be done.

Hello, you must be new here!

Welcome to the PvP section
"No, there is no real problem with P2W in STO. Obviously, if you fight against someone with an equal level of skill in the game, better equipment will give you an edge. But usually, it is the skill level that determines the outcome, not the P2W." -Logimo

Not that new. I'm not from beta times, but I remember when sci was ruling the battlefield, and escorts were for best players who were not afraid of dying after enemy players looked in their direction.

But for me fun from PvP started to vanish a year or so ago.

Don't like robots. Actually not great fan of PvP either. Only STO PvP. Hell, I don't like MMOs that much. Just like Star Trek :)

Wanna my "fire all phasers" fix without loosing sanity in the proces (and current STO id doing just that).

The concept of a stripped down version of STO for pvp only on a seperate server is a nice idea but that would involve DStahl actually caring about the pvp community when it consists of only .02% of the game (those were his words by the way).

But there is Hope for PVP.......its called Mech Warrior Online......want good pvp go there its worth the move

Yeah I remember those comments which further cements the fact he's a damn liar in my book. Lets start looking at the math. If only .02% of ppl playing pvp, that means for JUST ONE arena to pop, there would need to be an average of 50,000 players playing at the time it pops. That's ONLY if all ten players that are queued are queued for THAT arena match and no other queues (I.e. cap or ground or kvk). Since thats never the case and there is always other players queued for other queues that aren't popping such as cap, ground, or low level pvp, now your looking at more like about 100,000 players needing to be online playing for ONE arena to pop. And what if theres a cap'n'hold running when your atena pops? now your looking more in the ~150-200k players online. Do those numbers sound legit to you?

Here's another way to look at it. .02% means that 1/5000 players pvp's. so for e1 reading this post, you represent 4999 other players that don't pvp. So do we all know 4999 DIFFERENT players in the game that don't pvp? I realize not a lot of us socialize with pve'ers, but I do believe most of us started this game pvp'ing before learning to pvp. Does anyone really think they've PVE'd with 4999 DIFFERENT players than the guy next to you that your pvp'ing with? Cause he needs to know 4999 DIFFERENT pve'rs than you know also, as well as every one the ppl on your team AND every player on the other team.

This is another example of cryptic justifying not working on pvp, but not putting any research or thought into the justification they've given. Sounds kinda like they're development team.
