Is the Aegis set still relevant?

Been playing since January, and have had a blast. Been using mostly 3 piece Borg+MACO shield on all my ships for a long time now. But with the change to the Borg console, I'm currently considering whether I should change my traditional thinking. I hate crafting, but have been hearing about the Aegis set for months. I currently have enough ec to buy up the whole set off the exchange. My question is, IS IT WORTH THE ECs? Is the 2 and 3 piece bonus (extra defence and reactive shielding) noticable and useful? Would this be a good set for PVP or PVE? Is the Borg set better, even against NON Borg NPCs? Or does Aegis have any use at all anymore?
Thanks!

Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

a lot of opinions concerning the aegis set; just search the forum and you will find many threads/posts on it.

i currently use the aegis set on my atrox and it does fine. since they are nerfing the 3 piece borg / maco set up i crafted another aegis set, just in case.

i would save my ECs because if you have played that long you should have most of what you need to craft the aegis set. even if you don't, it does not take that long to gather the material.

however, if you are loaded with ECs, that is certainly a short cut to acquiring it.

I think this all depends on the ship you're driving at the time. The aegis set is a superb tanking set. The defense and reactive shielding are great to have when tanking. However, if you already have the Maco set, don't bother as the resistances and cap on the maco shield outweigh that of the borg shield, and while not as high on the hp as the aegis shield, the maco is more than enough for most things out there.

I'd really say depending on what you're flying that the below in this order may be appropriate.

Cruiser: Maco, Aegis, Omega, or Borg
    Escort: Aegis, Maco, Borg
    Science: Aegis, Maco, Borg

Anyone with better knowledge of the sets though, feel free to toss in your opinions as that is all I am doing.

I wont tell you not to buy it, but if you have STF gear mk11 or higher keep your money (ec/dilith). It's a great set for normal STFs and current storyline missions but S7 promises to be more difficult. The Aegis is an entry level STF set, the best of the non-stf sets , and way to squishy for elite STF's.

yeah I imagine there are. I was just thinking with the change to the Borg console, it might be worth asking if anyone has any new thinking about it. It looks like a good set for story missions, and maybe tanking. Only problem is I agree not for elite STFs, you want Borg resistances for those. I'm thinking of using the Borg set on a dedicated Elite STf ship, just for kicks. As for the Aegis, just wondering if it would be a good set to have in my inventory for other purposes.

The Aegis is adequate for just about anything, but it is a bit antiquated compared to the updates applied to other sets. Some have suggested doing Aegis engines and deflector with MACO shields once season 7 begins, till you can reach the new sets at least.

Personally, I'd still run it anyway since I'm a fan of it. It is still a decent set, just not top of the line with all the extra bonuses the STF gear gets.

This brings again something to mind that I've been thinking about for a while. Honestly, I'm getting good enough that Elite STfs are no longer that great of a challenge if there's a good team who knows how to run them. And regular story content is certainly not that difficult. I'm thinking of using the Aegis set (or some other "not-quite-top-of-the-line" set) to use in regular story missions or fleet missions to give myself a little more of a challenge, and save the top gear for Elite STFs and PVP. I don't know, I thought it made pretty good sense.

Aegis would be a very fine set of equipment were it not for the mondo crummy shield.

With the new reputation system, the Aegis set will become relevant again for any new players levelling up to VA or existing players levelling up alts. You gotta have a stopgap set while you earn enough reputation to go for the STF sets and the Aegis still beats the other lower level sets.

yeah, i like that idea...but there is for instance the jem'hadar shield that is really good. in my opinion, since the jem shield is far cheaper to get, people will stick to that set.

Pardon, but this must be a typo. Jem'Hadar shields are probably in the top 5 of the most craptic pieces of equipment. Shield capacity is horrible low, even below Regenerative shields and their reg rate is a nightmare. Being resilient shields and +10 to kinetic damage resistance in no way makes up for this.

Yes it's cheaper and easier to get than AEGIS and people will probably use it even more than now, but that's actually a sad thing and will maybe even lead to more failboats.

I got the Aegis Set from the Exchange.

So next to the Temporal Warfare Set I bought with Lobi Crystals, it is relevant to me.

    Why?
Because it looks good to me, and most of all I didn't need to collect and craft those items.

I don't have the endurance and patience all the other players have, who have those great Omega, Borg, and M.A.C.O. Sets.

God knows I would pay someone to supply me with those sets using my account..

I'd say it's still great if you don't have your MACO set but I've noticed since day 1 of the STF sets that it's complete garbage in PvP. You're better stacking resist consoles and getting the MACO set for survivability. It used to be on par with the Borg set but the combination of the MACO shields + Borg 3-piece have severely diminished it. S7 will be splitting up the Borg set but I still think Aegis will be subpar compared to the other options available. I do miss the Tron-like skin Aegis provided.
