Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

But an aux beam array or turret! Now we're talking.
Otherwise, the Vesta to me is just a very expensive freighter with a lot of toys...

1 quantum in the front
1 question tho. do it come with a bridge?
The Priority One Shipyard Supplemental interview with Al "CaptainGeko" Rivera that take came out today said that Cryptic will limit the Aux DHCs to the Vesta. I didn't catch if they're going to be limited to one per Vesta or not.Edit: you can have 3x on a Vesta. I picked up 2x MK XII [Borg] Phaser DHCs to go along with the aux one just in case.
Other preparations include [Borg] Mk XII Phaser turrets for the rear, and a Phaser Dual Beam Bank for times that I want sub-system targeting. I made sure to grab all the MK XI space sets prior to the transition to the reputation system, to be able to try all of them out on the Vesta. I also picked up the Paratrinic Shield since it came recommended for shield tanking on STOWiki.
Energy Syphon drones - check
Aceton Assimilator - Check
Plasma Leech - check
Energy Syphon II - check
3x MK XII Field Generators - check
2x Mk XII purple Polaron TAC console - check
6x MK XII purple Polaron beams - check
KHG MKXII Deflec/shield/engine - check
The Vesta's not even going to make out of drydock
Only joking folks - this would be cruel.
Then the fools just cost themselves a sale, because those cannons were the only thing I was the least bit interested in.
Would have been extremely surprised if they made those aux cannons available for non Vesta ships for balance reasons. Obviously, if you think they're that worthwhile, they would be unbalanced if available for every ship.
I am, however, very much looking forward to the Vesta as there's a severe lack of good science vessels out there. The Vesta looks to actually be competitive in comparison to the game overall, but competitive or not, it is too much a jack of all trades to be an exceptional "I Win" ship.
For PvE, it may become one of the most fun ships to play, period. I don't think it'll gain much traction in PvP beyond the first few weeks. Or rather, it may be one of the only science ships you'll see in PvP--and still not be a major player.
2 phaser beam arrays and thermionic torpedo up front
2 phaser beam arrays and tricobalt launcher in rear
MACO shield , deflector and engines
red matter capacitor
sci and engineering consoles will house all the universals , the vesta healing and phaser console , temporal universal , theta radiation , point defence and either the borg or antimatter spread console
tactical will be 3 phaser relays and the promotional plasma turret

I seriously doubt the cannons by themselves would give any other ship a decisive advantage. It'd mostly be the novelty of them I'm after. But flying Defiants is what suits my play style, so I guess no AUX cannons for me.
1 Quad Cannon
2 Antiproton Dual Heavy cannons borg
1 Antiproton Beam arch
All MK XII
In the rear I have 1 Borg MK XI Quantum Torpedo
2 Mk XI Anti proton Beam archs
I've already got most of the boff and console layout prepared for both my sci and an eng to be used mainly in PvE (meaning, DPS is the key), yet I'm still torn between using DBB+Torp+DHC vs DBB+2xDHC (3x turrets rear in both cases). 2xDHC will give me decent constant energy firepower, especially useful with CSV, while I could use a torpedo for a solid kinetic spread salvo once enemy shields are down. And I do want to keep DBB for subsystem targeting and beam overload. Which one in the end would turn out better? I mostly want to be able to solo Raptors in CSE without issues.
As for the rest:
For Sci - http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillplanner/index.php?build=Vesta1_0 (for no-torpedo build)
For Eng - http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillplanner/index.php?build=Vesta2_0 (got ahead of myself with PO3, might change it for GW3)
Consoles:
Eng: Borg, Tachyokinetic
Sci: Field Emitter, 3 special consoles
Tac: 4x Phaser Relay
Yes, this is just... brilliant.
Why did devs nerf only my lovely Danubes?! Its my only counter to siphon spam!!

Full MACO XII space gear, but I will likely just use MACO Shield and Deflector with the Borg Engines simply because I couldn't stand the special effects of the MACO engines (and no point trying to convince me otherwise). Also got the Borg Universal console.
I got the following items, all borg stuff from STFs.
For rear
1 Mark XII Quantum Torp
2 Mark XII Phaser Beam arrays
For front
1 Mark XII Quantum Torp
possible choices of:
1 Mark XII Beam Array
1 Mark XII Double Beam Bank
Sao Paulo Quad Cannons
and of course, the Aux cannons that come with the ship
There will be a lot of playing around on the setup, but I will try to fit in all three vesta consoles. I do have the following as well (all blues)
2 Mark XI Field Generators
1 Mark XI Graviton Generator
1 Mark XI Neutronium Alloy
1 Mark XI Ablative Armour
1 Mark XI Ablative Armour
1 Mark XI Warhead Yield Chamber
1 Mark XI Zero Point Quantum Chamber
1 Mark XI Phaser Array
1 Mark XI Direct Energy Distribution Manifold
So whatever I use there will depend on some experimenting. My aim is to follow the ship as closely as I can with how she is depicted in the books, so I will try to make it work as closely as possible, and swap if its too difficult to be decent gameplay wise (i.e. try the aux cannons but swap back to beams if its not working well).
But I'll be stuck with fighters...
Time to break out the Stalkers again. At least I can semi-chain jam sensors with them...

To be fair, the tractor beaming is a bit ridiculous, especially with 4+ Danubes out (which, again, honestly is to be expected). I just hope they don't overcompensate and ruin it completely. There's tractor spam (which is what we have) and then ineffective to the point of not having it (which I hope they don't do). I haven't tried any carriers on Tribble yet, so I don't know what it's like, but I just hope that it's a good medium.
Overall though, I'm happy that it comes with Runabouts instead of fighters by default, as I would have stuck Runabouts in anyway.
