The Art of STO Team Space PVP

edited October 2012 in PvP Gameplay
Guys (and Gals), i've seen many "Help" threads about various aspects of PVP, but i've not seen any help being offered with regards to team based PVP.

Also, recently, i have seen a lot of new Fleets entering ques as well but being taken apart quite brutally. To me this is very counter productive to the PVP community in the long run.

This is caused by many reasons, but i'm not starting this to debate those issue.

With this in mind, I took the time to create an introductory guide to team based PVP. I used GoogleDocs just in case PWE decides to change the forums overnight.

Premade / Team PVP Basics Youtube Video Example - Thanks to 4Monkeys

Basic Premade / Team PVP Strategies

I stress, these are my views and not necessarily the views of others. If you have something you feel that should be included / edited / removed, send me a mail and we'll discuss it.

To me Team based PVP is the best part of STO. Even in it's current state, it is second to none. Shame PWE/Cryptic doesnt see it that way like most of us here.

I really do hope this helps you guys to climb up the learning curve faster than i did.

All the best guys.

This is a really good guide. Newer and even older less successful fleets should read it. What makes a team excel is the work they do BEFORE they enter the queue, not just what they do after they get in a match.

    Well done.

A good guide, although maybe a little too basic. I think you should add a section that summarizes a few of the techniques people use to kill groups that do all of these things, beyond just "doing these things better." New teams won't be able to do them until they master the basics, but knowing what they are will help them understand why they lost and how they could win in the future, which can mean the difference between determination and frustration.

The document is designed for new PVP fleets. I dont want it to get into strategies as this isnt the intent for the document.

Too wordy, and it becomes boring.

If teams follow the basics... run all 3 ship types all 3 captain types... communicate, and support each other. Within a pretty short time frame they will understand exactly what happened when they fail. Which happens to every team from time to time. If your team learns to communicate the basics to each other... like healing target selection ect... it will be obvious when an error happens somewhere... or when another team counters something hard.

Basics first... and like most things in life the harder stuff just pops into focus.

Actually my Third Thread will not be an Escort Thread. Once things stabilize abit in STO, my next thread is going to be Premade Composition 101, featuring the build combinations I have put in my Cruiser and Sci threads respectively along with what kind of dps ships to couple them with. :)
And the basic strategies of how to employ them all together.

It's coming, just give it abit of time. It will be soon (and not the Cryptic kind of soon either)

good read naz. Perhaps expand on it with follow up articles that some have suggested? Target calling. Sci combos. Healing rotations. Situational awareness. Stuff like that. Keep them short and to the point so as newer fleets start learning the basics, they can read the next article and work on a new aspect for growth. Keep them all together in this thread as a anchor point for them to keep coming back to. Just a thought. Keep up the good fight!

And I expect some ego stroking in the next article....lol.

Good guide and gets the TSI stamp of approval.

Add to communcation the usage of vent/TS to perform even better.

Now the question will be how many new people (as well as seasoned players) will read it.

Hard to read sarcasm of the net, but yes youre welcome. Praise from me is a very seldom sight as im strict as heck when it comes to pvp.

Thanks Naz this is great. Only thing i need to dissagree is "Captain Kirk is fictional, 1 ship cannot take a whole team down" :D
