I'm seriously hoping that this doesn't end up like the champions app did, because it sounds like a really fun and useful thing that i wouldn't mind expanded over to CO and NW.

My understanding is that the Doff system WON'T be available at launch. This is probably due to technical/logistical difficulties in getting the system to work is probably setting doff functionality back to a further date. As opposed to anything malicious on Cryptic's part.

Top priority feature here. Nothing else matters more than this.

This is the type of Dev Blog that would have been best accompanied by the line "Now available on the iTunes App Store and Android Marketplace." followed by links to both of them.

I am big enough to admit when I am wrong.

    Good job... Now...

Minigames, and DuOff manager, thank you.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

As I mentioned in this thread:
This is going to be the initial release/ beta phase, and will have just the first set of features -- it really can only grow from here. We'd love for players to get their hands on what we've developed thus far so we can collect feedback and input. We want the DOFF system available and are working on it -- it's a massive undertaking for Cryptic's Core team and everyone is just as excited for the possibilities as you are :) ... In order to implement a DOFF system out of the game, these features had to be developed and implemented first. The priorities are spot on for future features to fall in place.

    Cheers,

    Brandon =/\=

But it's not going to be an "app" per se -- players can access it from their computers through a web browser, or on mobile devices (tablet, smartphones, etc.) through their mobile broswers. Some smartphones/ tablets will even let you "save" a website so an icon is placed on your homescreen for quick access.

And that is a cop out... Mobile browsers are junk at the best of times... and you cant do half the things you would be able to do with a native app.

I was excited... but now Im just sad.

EDIT: And if its a website... why not let us use it now?

But but but we need the ability to say "There's an app for that!" :P

Ok, then... if not an app, do you use flash? HTML5?

Then my curiousity is piqued. I don't have a smart phone, but I have a phone that can access the internet. It's a Verizon Feature Phone, can even play Youtube videos.

Will I be able to access it? Will it require specific plugins, flash, or anything?

Can I call down an orbital strike while in traffic?

What about dispatch a shuttle to pick up my dry-cleaning?

Randomly beam people where the sun doesn't shine?

Those are the features I think need to be developed before silly things like "doff management." Nuking things from orbit is way WAY more important.

Great job to all involved, a viable mobile presence from Cryptic was a big item on my personal wishlist. Hopefully it will progress into something that includes exclusive mobile-only doff missions or even Exchange access, but for now, this looks great! Kudos to you guys :)

To support most mobile browsers they wouldnt be using flash.

EDIT: And thats another reason this should be a native app... mobile browsers have some silly restrictions. For instance if theres heavy use of JavaScript on this website (which I suspect there is), browsers outside of Safari on iOS will be slower.

Idea for the name. Insead of "Gateway" why not "Transporter PADD" (or Pad)?

    Or simply PADD?

    ODN Interface?

Looking good, hope it will grow quickly though.

It would also be nice if our ingame interface could get some of this treatment (namely the older interface menus, character sheet for one).

I assume it's HTML5 unless Cryptic has an active grudge against Apple users.

Maybe they want a term that works across their games. Maybe they want features that work across their games like C-Store integration and ZEN gifting.

    Features as described seem... underwhelming.

But when I turn my gaze from the meager start to the sky of possibilities... my god, it's full of stars.

DOff management, equipment management, remote access to the Exchange, access to chats, mail, remote fleet management for leaders and contribution for members... pretty much anything you do now that's menu and inventory based, could be done through this.
