Hi guys/girls,

I have an idea for a Defiant and I would like some input/feedback.
Note: primary goal is PvE but it should also be able to deal with PvP.

Fleet Defiant
Fore
  • Phaser Dual Heavy Cannons Mk XII [Acc] [CrtH] [Borg] or Fleet variant
  • Dual Phaser Beam Bank Mk XII [Acc] [CrtH] [Borg] or Fleet variant
  • Quantum Torpedo Launcher Mk XII [CrtD] [CrtH] [Borg] or Fleet variant
  • Phaser Quad Cannon

Aft
3x PhaserTurret Mk XII [Acc] [CrtH] [Borg] or Fleet variant

Deflector
Borg

Impulse
Borg

Shields
M.A.C.O. Resilient Shield Array Mk XII

Devices
  • Subspace Field Modulator
  • ?
  • ??

Engineering consoles
  • 2x Console - Engineering - Neutronium Alloy Mk XI (Rare)
  • Console - Universal - Assimilated Module

Science consoles
  • Console - Science - Field Generator Mk XI (Rare)
  • Console - Science - Field Generator Mk XI or Console - Universal - Cloaking Device

Tactical consoles
5x Console - Tactical - Phaser Relay Mk XI (Rare)

As for the bridge officers:

Tac Commander
Tac Team1, HY2, CRF2, APB3

Tac Lt. Commander
HY1, Tac Team2, BO3

Tac Ensign
BTW1

Eng Lt.
EPtS1, RSP1

Sci Lt.
HE1, TSS2

Edit 1.
Here's a link to the skill planner.

Edit 2.
I've chosen for the phaser setup as there are no alternatives for the quad cannon that I wish to use.
Leaving the quad cannon out, tetryon would be my second choice.
Now,... be gentle ;)

Is this a Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit?

If so, there are only 2 devices, from my understanding. Also, there's 3 Engineering Consoles.

As for BOFF skills, I'd much rather have CRF3 instead of APB3.

About the devices, I guess stowiki is right and the skill planner has a minor flaw.

Could you elaborate the CRF3 instead of APB3? I find APB3 one of the most usefull skill a tac captain can have. Especially when you have 9 points spent in the attack patterns.

I'd go with something like this for boff set up...

    Tac Commander
    TT1, APB1, CRF2, APO3

    Tac Lt. Commander
    HY1, CRF1, BO3

    Tac Ensign
    TT1

    Eng Lt.
    EPtS1, EPtS2

    Sci Lt.
    TSS1, HE2

I'd change shields to OMEGA Mk XII and change fore weapons to all Dual Heavys and one quantum.

I know the Defiant is considered a "glass canon", but isn't all the shield healing not a bit much?

Why the Omega shields? They have a higher regen but capacity seems very limited.
As for the dual heavys, that is one option also although in another thread I've read that it is possible with the quad cannons that you might get a lower aggro with the about the same DPS output.

    instead of
Tac Ensign BTW1 try Tac Ensign BTS1
you will have a chance to disable the oponent shields and destroy it faster
and the APO3 is more eficient than APD3 u will have a bonus in critical, damage and moovment :D
    and for
    Eng Lt.
EPtS1, EPtS2 in cycle with TT1X2 in my opinion is better
i run 2 Phaser Dual Heavy Cannons Mk XII
Dual Phaser Beam Bank Mk XII
    Phaser Quad Cannon
and the omega set is more focused on damage:) but u will ned to hit and run
i have the same build like you exept those modification :) and skills focused on energy beam no torpedos and is a killer :d at least in my opinion

My Commander and Lt. Commander skills are as followed:
    TT1 - APD1 - CRF2 - CRF3
    TT1 - CSV1 - APO1

Cannon: Rapid Fire is the skill I use the most. As such, I want that as powerful as I can.

Having a TT2 is unnecessary, when you can put in another attack pattern or weapon buff.

I fly an all cannon build, so I have no use for the 3rd Ensign level skill. It's wasted, but I don't care.

As for the Attack Pattern choice, I prefer Delta. It does the same as Bravo, except it applies a debuff to who ever is attacking the recipient of the Delta (meaning, you can cast it on your team mates). The more enemies attack the buff recipient, the more debuffs they receive. Yes, the cooldown is longer than Bravo, but I can live with it. Omega is a great skill, as it resists holds and buffs your speed and attack.

I have 9 points in Attack Pattern as well.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll go have a look what that could mean for my build.

Does your build have so much aggro then? Also I don't see any skill that have AoE damage like torpedo spread. Do you get attacked by so many enemies then that you need Delta?

My idea is to attack a single enemy and pound the hell out of it and move on to the next, not to gather aggro and be pounded.

Yes, I get aggro often. If I don't, I'm not doing my job as a damage dealer. I mostly use Delta for PvP, but it still works when you're doing Fleet missions and you're the only one taking on a wave of incoming enemies. When I'm engaging a single NPC target the buff and debuff are still handy.

I use Cannon: Scatter Volley 1 on rare occasions. Mostly, involving pets or weak NPCs. Most of the time, I'm alternating between Cannon: Rapid Fire 3 and 2 every 15 seconds. Since I don't use AoE attacks, I usually only get aggro on a single target.

TBH, if you are going to run torp+DBB+2DHC, wouldn't you go with CRF3, BO3, and HYT3 for your alpha strike?

Just swap boffs to CSV3, TS3, APO1 while PVEing.

And how would you fill in the other skills? Because it would mean you'd end up with double timeouts, right?

Thats a good thing I guess.

Me quitting or cruisers being worthless?

As it is I'm now running one of these "Optimised builds" which is damn hard to kill but still really doesn't do well for damage or team healing
