I was thinking, why does NPC ships hit so much harder when they die but guys you kill in PvP barely even scratch you?
Shouldn't the players ship hit just as (if not) harder than the NPCs? Because I can roll through an explosion of an enemy ship... That shouldn't happen...
The Average PvP player

1) Teamwork and timing is #1
2) You cannot "Kirk It" in every ship
3) You are going to die, just get back up
The problem is that the ships in PvE can't be smart. They COULD be you know. They can make them use the same skills humans use, like tactical team. They COULD make them balance their own shields, and utilize dual heavy cannons with abilities like rapid fire. If they did that, PvE would be incredibly challenging.
The problem is that it would be TOO challenging. I mean, heck, some people have trouble with the Mogai Escort, and its ony claim to fame is a single copy of tactical team. People in PvE want it real simple and real easy. Which means the only way to produce any form of challenge is just to make every ship have extreme HP. And explode real powerful when they die.

I'd just like to say, I love all the ideas this poster has about in his post.
I'd love harder PvE, and more than just HP-meatbags. Not cheap, over-the-top tricks like Donatra's cloak, Borg insta-death torpedoes, etc. But Klingons using Attack Pattern Beta, Borg using a 'Borg Team' to remove debuffs, actually add some strategy.
That's why I like No Win Scenario.
I wouldn't mind at all about having harder PvE, make people actually work at playing the game. Although to be fair, this kind of PvE, you shouldn't queue for, it'd be more of a private thing, where you do it only if you want to do it, and not with pugs...ever.
I'd love to play 'Contra' as it were, but not something like 'Kaizo Mario' in this game.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
They use them but not very well. If PVE enemy's were just coded to cycle Tac Team 1 and spam EPTS or TSS when their total shield value dropped below 60 or 80 percent it'd be a lot harder. Their HP's could be more in line with ours and they'd probably be just as hard to kill as they are now. Instead I see them use engineering team and possibly transfer shield strength, that's about it for self heals.
I absolutely agree that ships in PvE need to have more than just a billion hp or insta kill invistorps in order to make it difficult. This is is one of the reasons why the endgame materials in STO is so dull. NPCs hardly differ in the way they fight from game to game which makes the grind repetetive and soooo $%?$^% boring!
Couldn't Donatra actually fly around evasively and use dual heavy cannons with a alpha strike along with that big green cone of death thing ? It would actually require players to pilot their ships rather than just sit there, hammering the space bar till she dies.
Players can select to follow other players, I don't understand why certain NPCs cant do the same. For example at the moment ships seem to follow a set course where they spend more time flying away from you. How much more fun would Cure Space be if those Raptors and Negh Vars actually flew at you? Having to fly evasively because a raptor is on your tail spewing cannon fire up you TRIBBLE shoot sounds much more fun than sitting their hammering on the space bar against some zombie ship that's flying in circles in front of you.
My biggest dislike of PvE is really the lack of constant energy damage. Things like the Transwarp Gates in Khitomer could be covered in beam arrays or turrets which will do a lot of damage but actually allows players to use their skills like transfer shield strength and hazard emitters allowing them to actually practice tanking instead of just a random one hit death because of a so called "invisitorp". There's no skill required to sit at 9.99km and pressing the spacebar...
Also more challenging and active NPCs whilst removing a few super one hit weapons from PvE will get newer players actually learning to use their boff skills effectively using TT, TSS to keep their shields working rather then instantly going to RSP.
At the end of the day all this would do is actually prepare people for PvP, and if they are able to put up a decent fight, are less likely to be put of from PvP.
